Oh I'm sorry Sandra, I tried the needle but definitely prefer the shuttle and am just not proficient enough to demonstrate with a needle.

Oh yes, I forgot to say didn't I? It's size 20 thread which is the size I use most frequently for most things. But you could use any size thread and it would work - it would just change the finished size of the tree.

Do you mean "can one" or "can I"? I'm no expert with a tatting needle and just know the basics but am told everything can be done with a needle too, it's just that I couldn't demonstrate myself.

I do not have a video on that but it's a good suggestion! To wind two shuttles continuously, you wind the first one, then pull lengths of thread from the ball before cutting and then wind that onto the other shuttle.

Yes, I don't see why not though I'm not a needle tatter. There are split rings and split chains so that it is tatted in one pass but you could cut and tie after each round and then it's just rings, chains and thrown rings.

@@11Frivole you can have split rings and split chains with needle tatting too, you just have to unthread your needle and start from the back half of the needle. I'm just not sure how you would do that here. I will see if I can work out a way

You can certainly learn by watching videos but if you are a complete beginner, I would recommend starting with something simpler. I have beginner videos on my channel if you'd like to view some.
