I don't buy into the five CBs. I'd rather see a more attack friendly lineup particularly in group stage against the low block. So, Richards and CCV as CBs, A Rob as left FB and Weah in a wingback role on the right side. Make it all about the speed. Against quality (non-low block opponents) switch back to the 4-3-3 with someone like Scally at traditional right FB. Although tbh, Weah looked awfully good on defense against Leao.

Will never understand the Miles love from Gregg. He’s a B-team starter at best. But if we’re just looking at MLS CBs he’s never even been better than Zimmerman.

I think 2 of the extra slots have to go to a 5th CB and a 3rd striker for specific in-game situations like cover for a red card, chasing a late goal, etc. Then our 26th slot will probably be whoever is best available, so probably one of Luca, Brendan, etc. But don't doubt GGG out from bringing a 4th GK for "team culture" LOL

A personal wishlist for me I hope to see Luca Koleosho and Diego Kochen commit to the US but maybe larger rosters for major tournaments could help with that i dont know. Kochen probably isn't ready yet but I wonder if we Could get Koleosho for Olympics or Copa America.

I'm not sure if Fossey is going to be healthy for Copa, he's been out for a month or so with a knee injury.

I almost think bringing Lund and Parades and leaving fossey off is worth it. Fossey is the 5th RB/RWB in this roster let alone if everyone was healthy whereas Lund is a more like for like for Jedi for me. Everything else you have for me is spot on, as usual.

Am I the only one who sees Brendan Aaronson following the Luca track of, if he can put some muscle on and get a little scrappy, becoming a really effective 8 but where Luca has good creativity, Aaronson will press the hell the hell out of anyone coming jnto the midfield?

Yes but honestly not sure he has the frame to put on much weight/muscle, he’s just a smaller guy. But he’s absolutely been effective in that role and pestered tf out of Davies in nations league final with his pressing.

Solid lineup. I would switch Maloney and LDLT and I would bring Reynolds over Fossey. I expect Robinson over McKenzie and it won't bother me too much

Given this move toward 26-man rosters for this summer, the increased demand on players during the season due to schedule -packing, and the expansion of the World Cup to include 48 teams... do you think 26 is more likely for the World Cup?

I think we may need a backup destroyer for Adams given the questions around his health. Cardoso and De La Torre aren’t like-for-like replacements for Adams in terms of defense. We may also find ourselves in a situation against Brazil or Colombia where we need two defensive midfielders. If Lennard Maloney is healthy I would bring him over Marlon Fossey. He can act as both a backup DM and backup CB. Plus he is regularly tested against much better competition. We’re likely going to go with Weah or Musah at right back anyway, so Fossey isn’t needed.

Cardoso more than good enough for the lone 6 holding his own in the Spanish league for a good team. Maloney should only come if Adams is injured.

Totally agree. Fossey would never see the field but Maloney might be needed defensively if Adams gets injured mid tournament or just can’t play a full 90 and we want to protect a lead.

What’s the realistic expectation for this team for Copa? No Dest, potentially no Adams. We still have an amazing squad, though. Just don’t trust Gregg. Think we should at least be in the QFs but if we get embarrassed would Gregg get sacked?

@@24n8 thank you for the response. I would disagree. He has ~2,800 minutes played this season, and he has gotten much better defensively as their team lost a lot of their star power from last season, and they play a lot of defense. He has also looked better for the US, producing a lot of offense from the games he has played.

Mark McKenzie or Austin Trusty aren’t better CBs than Miles let’s be honest. Yes trusty played in the Premier League but he’s not a PL level CB, McKenzie is still in the Belgian league, let’s be real how much better is that league compared to MLS. I just think Pete you’re just kinda holding a grudge against Miles for staying in MLS to an extent I agree with you, but for the NT he’s still been pretty solid. You gave miles a lot of flack for some reason against Jamaica & yet Robinson (Fulham) Richards (Crystal Palace), & Scally (Gladbach) were all at fault for that early goal. You would call for Djordie like crazy to be in the NT when he was in AZ Alkmaar, now that he’s back in Colorado, not a single peep I hear from you about him, which I get even though I never thought he was NT material period. I think you gotta reduce some biases when really evaluating the team.

1. I am on record as saying both Richards and Scally were poor against Jamaica. So was Miles. 2. I actually started calling for Djordje to get a USMNT when he was at Montreal. After his Gold Cup performance, I didn't think he deserved another chance, even though he was still at Alkmaar. 3. I agree that Trusty is probably not a PL center-back but he was player of the season in the Championship, which is still a good league to be in our Top 5. Miles can look ok in CONCACAF but isn't CONMEBOL level. This is my opinion. You're welcome to disagree but if you want to come at me in the comments, at least have your facts straight because a lot of the things you said are just plain false.

Trusty may be below premier league level, but he’s a great EFL level CB. Miles hasn’t even been elite by MLS standards since returning from his injury. No one is saying that MLS players should be excluded from national team consideration, but you better be one of the best players in the league. He’d be more like an average to below average EPL defender, while Trusty is an elite EPL level defender.

Trusty would be among the best CB in the EFL. McKenzie is one of the best CBs in Belgium. Robinson is a pretty good MLS defender. I’ll take a great Belgium or EFL defender over a pretty good MLS defender.
