Berhalter names 27-man USMNT Copa America Roster

Gregg Berhalter has dropped a 27-man USMNT Roster for the Copa America, which will have to be trimmed to 26 by June 12. All the obvious picks are there, including Gio Reyna, Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Chris Richards, but there are also some bizarre MLS picks.

I'm like Brendan, but I'm prepared to see him lose his spot to a more talented young talent in the next year or two... Paredes could really push for that spot. I'm also open to the possibility that he grows with experience, and he's been building quality experience at a high level.

Id really love to see a 3-4-2-1 formation be experimented with in the friendlies. Maybe I have recency bias watching Crystal Palace of late, but with their electric style of play and some similar player profiles, I think USMNT can play with similar effect. This formation sures up some of the defense (not USMNT strength) but is designed with a lot of space for attacking players to flourish- think Reyna/Pulisic in the Olise and Eze roles as two 10's, Balogun or any in form striker in the Mateta role as lone striker- and then allow the midfield to boss/control the area with Mckennie and Johnny to make strong counter pressing passes moving forward. Additionally, it has similar principles that Greg likes to do with his Full Backs moving forward. This would suit Jedi's game and play to the strength of Tim Weah's role to take Dest spot as RWB. BUT of course, I don't have much faith Greg will think of this as an idea.

I would disagree. MLS sides would not challenge for playoff spots; it would be midtable to relegation battles for all MLS sides. MLS isn't a terrible league, but it's not elite. Leicester City and Leeds United would obliterate all MLS sides.

If you bring in Johnson whose career is on its last dying leg as your 3rd keeper, it's definitely meaningless. I'm not going to lose sleep over it but- why do anything for the F of it/without reason when you can actually make your 3rd keeper selection have some meaning and purpose by bringing in, integrating, giving tourney experience to a young up and comer. This is especially important with the trajectory, less than stellar nature of Turner/Horvath's careers.

I don't get the "hate" for Miles Robinson; he is a good center back not our best but serviceable. I also completely disagree that MLS is worse than the Championship. The top 2 or 3 teams would finish top of MLS but once you go down a few teams I really don't see the difference and the very top teams in MLS would be giving those top Championship teams a run for their money. To say that MLS is worse than the Championship is to say MLS is at the level of League 1 in england which is ridiculous. Your disdain for MLS despite your comments to the contrary is obvious. I do think the selections by GGG are questionable. I would not have taken Johnson but he is not going to play and they may have taken Johnson to have flexibility for the US Olympic squad since they don't know who would get released. I don't agree with the Moore pick; I agree there are better options even in MLS. As to the centerbacks I would have swapped Mckenzie with Trustee but again it may be reserving him for the Olympic squad. I do not like the Malik Tillman pick but really everyone else in the midfield, wingers and forward are good and what I would expect.

@@canyonoverlook9937 For me the Premier League is made up of three distinct cohorts. The top 6 to 8 are truly elite teams not just in the UK but worldwide; they are world class in terms of talent. These are your Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool's and are massive clubs. The next 6 or so are the middling teams that are very, very strong on a world basis but have to play against the best teams in the world so its really tough for them to compete. Here I think of the Fulhams, West Ham, Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace. The bottom 4 to 6 are the strugglers who really are just not in the same class as other Premier League teams. They can pull off an upset here and there but they all about staving off relegation and have little or no chance to move up the table. These teams are the teams that bound up and down from the Championship to the Premier League and back again. They just don't have the resources, coaching and talent to compete. Here we have the Nottingham Forest, Luton, Burnley or Sheffield Wednesdays. In prior years teams like Leeds, Southampton and Watford fall into this can we stave off relegation goal. I followed Leeds closely with Jesse Marsch and for all the ruthless Leeds fans turning on the Americans it was obvious they just didn't have the resources by an order of magnitude compared to the teams above.

While we all expected GGG to be stupid....I still can't understand his stupidity. Hopefully USSF will have GGG on a short leash, and if he F's up as much as I think he will, that they'll fire him and get a decent coach before it's too late. Johnson is a joke of a selection, there are probably 4-5 guys who'd be of greater value. Moore is a complete waste of space and provides nothing of value. A traffic cone is a better option. Miles/McKenzie are kind of obvious "Gregg's Guys"....but I still believe Trusty would have been a better option than either. Tim Tillman I don't mind too much, but if it had been my choice I'd have gone with Maloney considering Adams injury concerns. I've no issues with the wide attackers or the CFs for this tournament.....and I hope that none of those 7 are sent home. After the Olympics I could easily see Aaronson replaced if he doesn't straighten out his club play.
