Michigan would have been the Knicks because they always came up short.
@echt1144 жыл бұрын
It was just 2 years earlier when Duke was the team that couldn't get over the hump. It was the Laettner, Hurley and Hill combo that pushed them to championship level and the aura they've had ever since. And don't forget, the media tried their hardest to make Michigan a thing. They got all the hype and propaganda (and ref help) despite the fact they were obviously not the great team that Duke was. Media absolutely HATED these Duke players being the face of basketball.

fab 5 is legendary because they were dope as hell. they did some winning but it's really because of how fucking dope they were.
@tranceofdances10 жыл бұрын
Whats legendary about a group of trash talking thugs that did nothing but stain the program because they were receiving improper benefits? You call them "dope"....they "won games" but never won anything...because it was all taken away. In my opinion, their antics and attitudes were terrible for the game, and that's what this is, a GAME....not a style or fashion contest.
@edscottable10 жыл бұрын
tranceofdances it's too bad that you feel that way. we differ on that. frankly i don't care about college players getting paid. if them getting paid were legal it wouldn't really change who would be able to get the best players. the big schools that choose to focus their resources toward athletics are already getting the best players.
@tranceofdances10 жыл бұрын
My comment has nothing to do with the merits of whether college athletes should be paid....they are NOT allowed to be...that's just the way it is....My main point, was how these guys acted, and the way they played the game. To me, there is nothing legendary about their attitudes and trash talking BS....when I think of college b ball...I don't think of these guys....I remember nothing about them, but how they ran their mouth, acted like the world owed them something because of where they came from, and tried to turn the game into a fashion contest. They couldn't just let their play talk....they had to run their mouths, which in turn cemented why people disliked them even further.....when you have alumni of the school writing and expressing their unrest and unhappiness about the way they made the school look, that's pretty bad, to say NOTHING about the fact that they were doing illegal things...
@edscottable10 жыл бұрын
tranceofdances trash talk is used as an intimidation tactic, and it doesn't really matter at all unless it is effective. as a watchful fan back in those days, i would have needed a vivid imagination to assume that they were trash talking and being disrespectful. i wasn't courtside. i did see alot of high fiving and slam dunking just like how showtime used to do. they weren't skinning and grinning like magic and showtime, though. the old guard didn't like their lack of reverence for the old way. doesn't necessarily mean that the old way was better. and i don't assume that you're that old, so what is your real issue?
@tranceofdances10 жыл бұрын
You need to watch the Fab 5 special they did on ESPN if you never saw the trash talking. I find that hard to believe that you would have to use your imagination to see it....I never saw a game courtside either...I didn't have to....I saw them play many times, and the things they did were nothing like the Lakers of the show time days. Talking shit to players after plays, after dunks....staring people down, even getting in their faces or provoking confrontation. Sure in any sport, there is some form of trying to get an edge and things getting heated, but they did a lot of that shit on purpose....they even admitted to doing these things....as I said, let your play do the talking....that's one thing in general I can't stand about sports today period, is the trash talking...no, I am in my late 30's, and my issue is, I don't see how these guys are "legendary" at all. Were they talented? Yes....but that talent was overshadowed by their actions on and off the court.

From what I see the one game that was televised (nationally) that day was Kansas/Indiana from Indianapolis on CBS, ABC has the inaugural SEC title game and ESPN had Oklahoma/Kansas State from Tokyo at night. Today no way does a top 5 matchup end up a regional afterthought.
@dookdawg2147 жыл бұрын
Well, I watched that game live in NJ, so not sure what you mean.
@paulsonj727 жыл бұрын
The game was broadcast by a regional syndicator and stations picked the game up to make it a quasi national TV game. Today a game like this gets a National time slot on CBS or ESPN. Raycom/Jefferson Pilot(ACC Regional broadcaster) originated the broadcast
@CoreyT1276 жыл бұрын
I watched it in Wilmington DE live start to finish
@marcus8135 жыл бұрын
I think CBS would've picked up a game such as this today. I think that CBS was in its cheap phase at this point, which led to the loss of its NFL deal. Raycom, which held the ACC's men's hoops rights in tandem with Jefferson-Pilot, decided to handle this game solo (no JPS) and nationally syndicate it after CBS decided that the price for this game was too rich for its blood.
