That's incredible footage. The power of Mother Nature! Btw, I know my geography pretty good but didn't realize Seattle had palm trees because of the cooler winter climate they have compared to Arizona, Florida, California and other warmer winter states where they thrive. I guess it's true, you learn something new everyday!!!😊

I lived there, and SnoCo for years. I moved in the 80s as a teen from KS, and it was so weird to me that there’s palm trees there. Weird in a good way. Haha

We lived in Everett for many years. A fair number of palm trees around, usually close to the water. It seldom gets cold enough to hurt them seriously.

These extra high tides happen here every 5/6 years when the King tides coincides with wind storm events. This is not a new phenomenon or is it an indication of an unforeseen widespread catastrophe. Only the lowest areas are so affected. If you notice- the footage is just repeatly showing the same block from different perspectives. There are lots of very uninformed people commenting here

Not enough for sand bagging the garages across the street. I think we all know that the ocean has risen in many places around the world in recent times. Perhaps melting glaciers?

Very rare in Seattle.

My parents live on that street, so I can answer this accurately. It happens every 5 years or so. It’s just when the King Tides occur during a windstorm. We had really high winds this morning 😅

Houses right on the ocean, directly in front of a subduction zone. When the zone gives way like in Japan in 2011, that whole area will drop down several feet.
@willdejong776320 минут бұрын
It’s not on the ocean. Burien is on the Puget Sound. Also, beaches on the ocean and next to the subduction zone will rise, not fall, when the current stresses that have built up over the years are released.

Those are trachycarpus fortunei or Chinese windmill palms they are cold hardy palms that are very common in Seattle Washington and Portland Oregon areas. There are actually a few types of cold hardy palms that can be grown in the Seattle area which has relatively mild winters zone 8b and some parts zone 9a.

@kamikazitsunami7 сағат бұрын
@Gigabrain1 entitlement. They want a piece of the sea. They can afford it so they purchase it. Not smart but then the rich don't get rich from being smart, they get rich from being unscrupulous and often evil.

Remember the two multi-story homes that were built on that steep, steep, SUPER steep hill coming down from the top of Capitol Hill to the east side of I-5? I remember thinking when I first saw them go up that it wouldn't be too long before they came down. I think it was only within a year or two that one of them was leaning 45° towards I-5. I believe they took both of them down.

It seems the buildings across the road are built without permits for garages and out buildings here. Those should be red tagged and not be able to build again. Maybe they should instead built a sea wall?
