My husband and I did the reverse journey from Shinmoji to Osaka in May 2018. We stayed in a dorm. We love travelling by overnight ferry in Japan. We are from Malaysia and find ferry journeys in Japan convenient and a great way to combine transport and overnight accommodation. We always opt for overnight ferries if fits with our travel plans. We did another long ferry journey from Maizuru to Otaru in October 2019. Our latest ferry journey was in June this year from Toyo Port in Ehime Prefecture to Osaka Nanko Port. I recall that the ferry from Shinmoji to Osaka was the liveliest. Most other ferries had fewer passengers.

9:30 - "I've become more disciplined" - I snort in disbelief. 13:55 - disbelief cancelled. 17:30 - disbelief reinstated. 19:10 - Funeko loooks ready to clobber somebody with that pan! The cabin is better than some hotel rooms I've used. The hull colour makes a refreshing change to the usual white body.

A suite over here is two fold down bunks and a wet bath. Which os no bath just a tiny shower with a drain in the floor and straight flush toilet, no features. No nightwear, no toothbrush, and whatever you want in the fridge you pay for in advance extra above the fare. Our food is more expensive and uninspiring. ❤

Cool fact: Even though the two towers of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge are locally plumb, they are not parallel. You can take the measurement of how out of parallel they are and the distance of the two towers and calculate the circumference of the Earth.
