You really are an excellent mechanic! I’m working on a 2004 Toyota Highlander 2WD. I’ve replaced the struts, and now I’m doing the lower control arms, hub/bearing assemblies. I’m working on the front passenger side right now, and I went ahead and put a new motor mount in. I struggled for a long time on that motor mount, so I didn’t want to put the old one back in. The vehicle has 220k miles. Fortunately, no rust at all, on this vehicle.

hey there. which motor mount did u use? do u have the part number? I can only find front and rear, no left or right though. thank you
@tandimay57
@tandimay57 2 жыл бұрын
You do not have to lift the motor for the passenger side, only support it. The top bracket of the motor mount can be removed by unscrewing the bolts to the engine. Therefore you can just take it out with the motor mount out. No need to lift the engine above the motor mount.
@marksatterfield
@marksatterfield Жыл бұрын
Do you have to lift the motor for drivers side?
@tandimay57
@tandimay57 Жыл бұрын
@@marksatterfieldI believe so, I didn't see any other options. When you life the engine, it's really quite easy, there are 3 cylinder engine mounts on the bottom and one bracket mount on the bottom, and then one dog bone on the top. With all the mounts disconnected, you also have to remove the power steering mounts in case the drive shaft hits the steering rack, then lifting the engine is simply putting a block of wood under the transmission pan and jack it a few inches. Mine was a 2008 rx350 also with 2gr-FE

Love your videos man! This one gave me the info I needed to determine if I can do MY project in the time I have available... which is a big fat NOPE! haha. My wife's former Massachusetts '08 Highlander Sport 4WD has 225,000 miles on it, and it is now my kid's car at school in Scranton, PA. Our Urban Assault Vehicle (as I always call it) has it's spent all its prior years reliably and safely hauling my family's asses around salty New England. I've spent more than half my 55 years in and under cars to know that I'll be dealing with some stripped nut heads and broken bolts from seized rusted threads, regardless of how much PB Blaster and torch heat I use, and that gives me pause! So I have a box of new Toyota components: 5 motor mounts, 2 front sway bar bushings, 2 front lower control arms and 2 ball joints. I did the ball joints about 6 years ago, so I know what to expect from that nightmare, but even though you were working on the previous generation, I know our car well enough to realize that our model is very evolutionary, and the components all connect in the exact same way. I too looked up the hours for these projects on AlldataDIY and its staggering. Toyota recommends removing the engine and transmission. BAH!!! Not gonna happen. Anywho, thanks for helping me quickly realize the one clear day I have today to work on this car in my driveway (before our first 5-8" of winter snow drops TOMORROW) is not going to happen! I'll be doing this project when the youngster returns after his Spring semester. ;) Thanks again for your informative content!!

Book time is a joke, if I went by book time I'd be out of business. I couldn't charge someone 12 hrs for that and be able to sleep at night, we gotta eat but come on. I guarantee any chain shop would have no problem charging the whole 12.6 to some poor bastard too.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Generally book time is pretty far off is specially with suspension. Other times it's pretty close and fair. You're right about some shops Ripping people off and being okay with it. Fortunately the people I work with are very reasonable and fair. I think they only charged just under 3 hours. Which is fair in my opinion.

3rd gen rx350 AWD: Passenger side: remove rear torque engine mount bolt, unbolt top nut on both passenger and driver engine mount, remove top engine mount (dog bone). I jacked up the engine with a 6" block of wood on the oil pan (the edge running driver to passenger side and closest to the cabin. Basically near the oil drain plug. Driver side: remove top nut on both passenger and driver side engine mount, remove 3 bottom nuts of the front engine mount (top side bolt access seemed to be a little more difficult) , I had top engine mount (dog bone) bolts out but not for sure if this mattered. I jacked up the engine with a 6" block of wood on the transaxle housing (the edge running front to back and closest to the front of the vehicle). The engine cleared the engine mount so I could just pull the engine mount out.
