When I was 19 I was in my backyard at my old house. We lived in a township so there was a lot of wooded area in my backyard. One day a little baby black kitten came running out from the woods and he came right up to me and started hugging on my legs! Let’s just say Spook is now almost 15 and spoiled as hell! And the fact that he chose and found me makes our connection so much more meaningful to me… he literally sleeps with me every night and is always wanting to be on my lap when I finally sit down. I love him so much and I have been so blessed to have him in my life!

Black cats are amazing!! They absolutely LOVE their humans, they are usually super vocal and hilarious. The stuff about taking pics is easily fixed by using lighting, sunlight or picture editing apps. Theres really no excuse for not being able to take good pics of them anymore!

To me, the most beautiful animal in the world is a Black Panther. As a cat lover, my favorite animal is the cat, whether wild or domesticated; and black cats take the prize. I have had three black cat companions in my life so far. There were three others that were members of my extended family. I have 3 cats now, but none of them are black cats. In the future, I do plan to have another black cat companion, but for now, the three I have are all I can afford. As for the stigma placed on the head of black cats, I don't think the folks that believe these things are all that well educated! Black cats are just normal cats, with all the wonderful mysteriousness of all cats. Why do we love cats? Because the mystery surrounding them makes them even more attractive to people seeking pet companions. Also, all cats I ever cohabitated with were fiercely loyal to me and my family; which is a trait in cats that is much stronger than it is in dogs, in my opinion. I've had cats and dogs, and while the dogs were very loyal, the cats showed it in many more ways than the dogs did!

I have 2 black cats. A couple of months ago, I overheard a conversation about black cats, and someone was saying how they are bad luck. I wanted to stop and correct them, but I think once a person has a certain idea in their heads, it's better for them to come to a realization themselves rather than me try to argue the point. I lost my orange knucklehead two weeks ago. She was twelve, had a stroke. Last week I stopped by a PetsMart on my way home just to look and saw a few black cats. One I kept coming back to and decided I’d see if I could adopt her. Well the paperwork sucked. It was easier buying my car! I gave up about halfway through. So instead I went on Facebook and just put the word out, I’m looking to get a black cat! Well a friend of mine said she fostered a cat that she thought would be perfect for me. It a was a female cat named Cosmo and she was currently at PetsMart… the one right by where I work… and stopped off at where I was drawn to a black female cat named Cosmo. Don’t tell me THAT wasn’t a sign! I get her next week!

Inky is the second black cat who has allowed me to care for him. I adopted him from a local shelter in 2017 and have enjoyed every minute I've spent with him. He is a solid black cat, no stripes or white hairs, but unfortunately, he didn't get the gene protecting him from diseases. He has feline aids. I'm glad he chose me as his caretaker and best friend and hope we have a very long life together.

I was at an adoption event run by a large, reputable chain several years ago. My elderly cat had passed away and I really wanted an orange cat. I looked in all the cages. No orange cat. I looked up and down that long, poorly lit hallway thinking that I would just wait for an orange cat. The two ladies babysitting the cages were extolling the virtues of each cat. Suddenly, I heard a soft rattle at the very end of the hall. That portion was unlit. The rattle came again, so faint. I walked to the very end, peering in cages as I went. At the very end, on the very bottom, two pale sparks looked up at me. "Is there a cat in here?" I was bewildered. "Yes," one answered dismissively, "but he's black, not orange." I'd already figured out the "black" part as I couldn't see him. He brushed up against the cage door again. _that soft rattle_ Then sat down. I squinted into the gloom. A perfect Bastet. "What's wrong with him? Why's he down here? Is he sick?" Both women shook their heads. "No, but he's black," one answered again. "And an ex-feral," the other chimed in. "We knew no one would want to adopt him, so we put him down there," the first one continued. _And so we wouldn't have to keep answering questions about an unadoptable cat_ was very much not spoken. I looked at them. It wasn't friendly. All this time this skinny, black cat that still had the look of a kitten about him, just sat there looking up at me. The women were still talking, trying to excuse their inexcusable, lazy behavior. I'm sure I radiated dislike and disapproval. I'd had black cats all my life and really wanted an orange cat. Adult, kitten, I didn't care. I could see it sitting on the ottoman in front of my fireplace, its orange fur reflecting the firelight. "Get him out," I snapped at the women. "I'm taking him." There was some backchat. I actually had to go find the woman in charge, but I left with a black cat. I won't say it was love at first sight. He didn't seem to like me. I wasn't sure I liked him. He was definitely a very aloof ex-feral, but one who had decided that warmth and wet food were pretty nice. Humans only figured in that equation insofar as they opened the tins. That was five years ago, though. When Benjen deigns to sit on my lap and purr, I know it's because he really wants to. He's made a conscious decision. He's not just looking for any warm lap and pets, he's looking for mine. I've come to realize that, yes, I am just the butler, although I am an adoring one. My purpose in life is to open tins, clean boxes, and supply a warm lap and pets when requested by Himself. I've always had black cats, and at my age I doubt I'll ever have an orange one, but that's okay. I'm being loved by an ex-feral, black cat that I love back, and that's pretty special.

Just a few weeks ago my husband found a black cat probably about a few months old but not tiny like a kitten. We saw him and he fell in love and he was as skinny as I've ever seen a cat be able to be skinny you could see the bones picking out and it was freezing he was almost frozen solid he could not even walk right. So we brought him inside and took him to a friend that has an animal rescue. She took care of that cat for a little bit and it turned out that she was a girl!!! We were going to the name him, the cat Binx!! But it turned out to be a girl!!! So we named her jinx as a joke!!!! She's living with us now and she's the light of our life!!! The sweetest baby!!!!. I pray and I asked that anybody who finds an animal that needs help take care of them and love them I promise they'll become a valuable part of your family.

My most laid back and loving cats have been black cats. Though I prefer grey tabbies for my cats. I had been looking for a kitten for well over a year. Meeting the cats didn't work out, nothing in the photos grabbed me and one day I saw a photo of two black kittens. One of the kittens connected with my soul. The lady brought both over and the one that got my attention in the photo was so loving. The other was psycho and was euthanized. I look at my Sabrina and am so glad that she came my way.
