Really like the rain jacket cape and no water hitting your legs!!! I generally wear jeans so the way raincoats normally don’t cover your legs is always really inconvenient to me if it starts really bucketing down because jeans really don’t dry quickly.

For warm climates instead of High-vis vest you can use High-vis straps, which cover less surfacce, but are effective. Thanks for the video, BTW!

Oh yes, my Mum used to make me wear those and I _hated it_ really didn’t like the attention grabbing aspect of it. Now I wear a high-vis uniform every day at work around heaps of other people and forget about it when walking into the shopping centre, although there was a few initial moments at the beginning where someone would say something that reminded me and bring the discomfort flooding back but now I’m basically used to it. XD - Also getting a licence and realising just how hard it is to see walkers and bikers and even motorbikes while driving _really_ helps get a different perspective on things.

I think the current research suggests that reflectives on moving parts (wheels, feet, pedals) have a greater effect than vests and jackets. I think that reflective slap bracelet is probably more effective than you give it credit for.

I prefer to use an orange hi-vis vest because in daylight it's much more visible than a yellow one. And it's so light it doesn't cause sweat and will practically fold up into a jeans back pocket. And you can never have too many lights on your bike plus spares. I have been using a 70cm light flexible lenght of plastic water pipe attached to the rear of my carrier rack with a flashing 150 lumens light on either end to make the bike appear much wider to approaching traffic from behind and I'm swearing by it. It doesn't make my bike wider overall, just makes it look substantially wider from behind. I can add or remove it in half a minute (or instead mostly just slide it around so it's flush with the side of the bike instead) just by loosening or tightening the two pipe clips a few turns with a little 7mm wrench. My own little MacGyverism I came up with and I'm actually quite proud of it. I've added the same idea to all of my bike trailers too. Last year in the middle of the day I was followed into the underground carpark of a supermarket in my local town by a woman in her car who just wanted to tell me her brother had been killed whilst riding his bike in the daytime a few years previously by a car that hit him from behind. And perhaps if he had been as visible as I was as she was following me on the street, he may not have been hit or killed. Then she just got back into her car and drove off. It was quite a sobering moment and it dispelled any thoughts I had that I was overdoing it. Lots of good products from gofluo if I remember the name correctly. I will definitely look them up. Reflective elasticated armbands used as protective trouser cuffs/clips are a great cheap idea too. I bought 6 pairs from amazon for €10. Spares and a cheap gift to others from time to time. Always try to ride defensively. If there is a moment of confusion or misunderstanding between a cyclist and a car or lorry, there's only going to be one real loser. The cyclist. Being right sometimes won't make you any less injured or dead. It's unfortunate but true.

When I wear my poncho, I don't really like wearing the hood on because it just affects my peripheral vision even if it has side windows. Instead, I just keep it down and wear my helmet with a waterproof helmet cover. it will protect your hair but not half of your face but I don't really mind and I still have good vision around my surroundings.

Thanks for sharing, other reflective items I use are straps for rear pannier and high visibility water proof/resistant backpack cover. Alternative to the spoke reflectors are 3M Scotchlite or Oralite 5650/5700 reflective tape for bike frame, wheels and helmet.

Hello from Scotland. I have the poncho and it is great. Also it can be packed neatly into the front pocket.

Definitely a great channel and his advice and experience applies to millions of cyclists everywhere. Not just roadies or mtb'ers which seems to be the channels that actually do get millions of subscribers. It's a strange mixed up world.
