A very unusual occurrence, here we see a 12 car consist of R188 cars being transferred from Corona Yard to 207th St yard. It is very rare to see 12 car trains in the system.

The Market Frankford M4s also kind of sound like this but with a much lower tone. They were the first ones with this propulsion when AdTranz first introduced it. Of course, when Bombardier acquired AdTranz, they acquired the rights to the MITRAC propulsion. Now you hear MITRAC in many transit cars including the Boston Type 8 LRV.

They go to 207th yard for maintenance work that can't be done at Corona yard.and yes,they are apart of the 7 line.

@@BillyMartin4Life 207 is a heavy maintenance yard that serves the R46, R62A, R32, and R179s, of the (A) (C) and (1) trains, they do work there to keep the cars clean and fix them, it's basically Coney Island Yard ( (B) (D) (F) (N) (Q) ) but in manhattan and a bit smaller.

@@BillyMartin4Life Major repairs that require heavy-duty labor that are not done at Corona Shop. I remember when the R142, R142A & R188 cars were maintained at Coney Island Shop for major work and overhauling were performed.

Those are entirely brand new R188's connected to converted R142A's to make the six car set.

Is it me or is r62 way better than these? The seats are more comfortable, inside is calmer on your eyes with the silver, looks nice too. Plus is quieter. Also I love the full sized emergency doors!

Probably not, because the 7 uses A-division cars, which each are shorter in length that a B-division car.

Most of the cars were originally built under contract R142A as five car sets. As part of the R188 contract which gave them CBTC capability one new build car was added to half of the five car sets to allow for 11 car trains which are unique to the 7. There are also 8 11 car trains (7811-7898) which were built new as R188s.

Late response but they have batteries in them to allow them to run for a little bit after letting go from the 3rd Rail. However lights aren't being powered properly, HVAC and other small stuff.

Been along time since I have been on a subway car but I always kind of liked going through a switch and the drone of the HVAC fans would switch off for just those couple of seconds. HVAC sound always irritated me even though I know it was necessary. Remember times in summer you would get in a car without AC, car was usually empty and you could never stay in one to long.

Miss Jennifer Banks well this 12 car train is only 12 feet longer than the standard 10 car BMT trains, might be able to stop at 10 car marker at some stations if theres a little extra room at those stations.

Probably never will the R188 cars be assigned to any other line than the 7 Line. Some R188 trains have 5 cars and some have 6 cars.

@@amtrak_121 There are currently some R142A cars on the 4 Train. In a few years, the R262 cars will replace the R142 & R142A cars on the 2 Train, 4 Train, 5 Train and the 6 Train. Then the R142 and R142A cars should be reassigned to the 1 Train and the 3 Train. Then the R62 and R62A cars will be subjected to be replaced.

Any station on the IND or BMT(lettered system). Maybe Queensboro Plaza gets an exception because the 7 and N trains use the same platforms, just different tracks

The width of the A-Division cars are narrower than the width of the B-Division cars. The width of an A-Division subway car is 51', and the widths of the B-Division cars are 11' and 12' on the R44, R44, R68 & R68A.
