I have one Barred named Oreo, she is very friendly and loves to be cuddled. I have a Buff named Vanilla, puts up with being held. I have four Easter Eggers: Eggber, is ok with being held, Coco, doesn’t like being held, Mocha, doesn’t like being held, and Cadbury, I think Cad is a Rooster, He hates being held, he has blue-green feathers, and he’s bossy. I love Oreo the most, they’re about 4 months old.

@daddykirbs8 жыл бұрын
A variety of natural foods that they can free range for is the best. You can also do other things like set up a fodder system. This is where you sprout seeds to feed the chickens baby greens. Combining that with meal worms would be a good diet. Farming meal worms or black soldier flies for the larva isn't too difficult. but if you can't do that then go to your local feed store and get a good "layers" food.

No, Americaunas are an actual breed that lay blue eggs. EE aren’t a breed, they are a mix between blue layers (usually americauna and aracuna) and lay blue to green eggs (olive eggers are also a mix - brown and blue)... so... yep 👍🏼

what is regular feed like what percentage of protein in the feed
@daddykirbs8 жыл бұрын
They free range like the other chickens and occasionally get some chicken grain and chicken scratch seeds. The majority of their diet is the free range food they find on the farm. The scratch is just like a bird seed mix. They get a little bit of that in the evening as a treat when they go into their coop. The chicken food they may get on rare occasion is an 18% protein mix.

+Blake “Daddykirbs” Kirby edgewise, as opposed to directly getting a word in. Think of your basic "box" shape that you're trying to get into an opening slightly less wide than the width of the box but if you turn it slightly "edgewise" the box will go in. I hope I didn't confuse you further with my slightly less than concise explanation. ...

That's not how you hold chickens. You keep their wings tucked in....so they feel more secure.... otherwise they flutter/flap around ...you can break/ sprain their wing. It's annoying for you and for the chicken....#1 sign that someone is inexperienced in farming/homesteading or handling chickens.

Why don't you cut the spur?
@daddykirbs8 жыл бұрын
Cutting the spur would be kinda like cutting the tip of your finger off. Painful and not needed. Sometime we do remove the hard sheath of the spur if the rooster is too dangerous around the kids. That doesn't happen often.
@puhistrain8 жыл бұрын
Sorry I have to disagree with you on this. Cutting the spur is not like cutting a finger off. There are special equipment that allows you to cut the spurs (such as a spur saw cutter, a spur guide). When we cut the spurs we cut up to where the tip starts to round off (Leaving around an 1 inch or 1inch and half(Pretty much to get rid of the tip)). We do this to ensure that everyone is safe, if you or anyone else get poke by their spurs, you don't know what type of bacteria or germs might be injected into you, especially since chickens scratch and dig all day with their legs. I'm just letting everyone know based from experiences with chickens

Ameraucanas are not Easter Eggers and vise versa. What you have is an Easter egger because she does not have a pea comb. Ameraucanas are a true breed and Easter eggers are mixed breeds that do not breed true. They are not the same. This is a huge misconception among the chicken community.
