Hey everyone welcome!!! This truck came in for a gravy lick, rolled in soakin it up with them yummy biscuit wheels. It obviously HAD, a lighting concern which I wanted to outline the diag and what one would have to go through to diagnose this issue. Hope all enjoyed. Give me a like & Sub!!! Thanks ARod. I cleared two codes and the dome light came back on. It’s probably short lived, but now I know that the BCM is most likely the problem.

Thanks a ton. I had trouble shot all the previous stuff by reasonable deduction and didn't have a clue where to go when I ended up at the point at which it may have been a faulty bcm. I didn't know what else to trouble shoot. This confirms my exact symptom of my 2012. Thank you!!

Thanks for the video. I saved it to show the service manager at the dealership. They had my truck for two days and never even looked at it. Pissed off! The guy even had the balls to tell me that since I lived in the "country", a mouse probably chewed a wire.

Excellent diagnostic video. My 2012 F250 appears to have this issue. Bulbs are good, fuse is good, door open sensors work, and I can manually turn on the dome lights. No way that I will replace the BCM just to get the lights back.

Thanks for the video. I had the BCM replaced by Ford about 3 years ago and the dome lights stopped coming on again about a year later. Haven’t fixed it again because it was $600ish and didn’t want to pay that again. Why would it have gone bad so soon after being replaced? 2012 F250

Wow that BCM is a son-of-a-gun when she fails. The reprograming is the part that stinks. My rear view camera in my Explorer needs to be replaced but then it will need to be reprogramed. GEEZ!! Great video Bro

I have a 2012 f350 reg cab that has a similar problem. The only difference is I can manually turn them on by the switch. Do not work when you open the door.

My truck had less than 100 miles on it when the BCM had to be replaced because of this. Literally signed the papers on it and took it to the service department!

I cleared the code with a Snap On scanner and so far the lights are working.

2012 F350 Same issue and had Ford dealer repair, new BCM put in. Several days later the lights went out. Another Ford service center looked at the issue. They dropped headliner and looked for causes of possible shortage, none found. They replaced the BCM. However, several days after new BCM install the interior lights went out again. Exact same scenario as before. Do you think there could be a short or ground issue coming into the interior light harness or bad BCMs? By the way, excellent demonstration and explanation!!

Followed the trouble shooting step by step. First all doors indicate, #12 fuse is good. Removed the plug from the BCM and applied 12v to the grey wire w/ purple trace. The dome lights all come on. Definitely the BCM. 2012 F250 w/ 103K miles. Thanks so much. I don’t have a programmer, so making calls Monday.

Well your video was 100% helpful. I traced my problem to the BCM just like you advised. My question is, instead of replacing the BCM would it be reasonable to clip the grey/violet wire from the multiport socket and apply a fused 12v power supply to the wire separate from the BCM? The interior lights do illuminate when the BCM is bypassed. Does the BCM control the door light switch, and would bypassing the BCM still turn the lights off when the doors are closed? Thank you for any input for I am just trying to avoid the BCM replacement. Also, I noticed that my door chimes only work when the key is in the ignition. Are the door chimes on the same circuit as the dome lights?

I was changing all my interior bulbs and I shorted out the rear dome light because I used pliers to pop the bulb out...stupid. Every light still works properly besides the rear dome light which I shorted out. All my fuses are good, all the demand light switches work, all my door ajar messages are correct, and if I open the doors or hold the cluster brightness switch the front dome lights come on normally. Is it possible that I just ruined my rear dome light assembly?

So my front dome light comes on when any door opens but rear does not come on. I can manually turn on each light in the rear and when pressing the dome light switch on dash only the fronts come on.

How often to those BCMs fail? I've already had this issue 2x on my '12 F350. Dealers charges me > $500 each time they've replaced it. I also have an intermittent cycling of the windshield wipers when I turn the key on (a friend has the wiper issue in his '17 F350 also).

Wipers ya need a multifunction switch stalk. Yes bcms fail for a variety of reasons....if they replaced it...was it within the 2yr unlimited mileage on all parts?

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Subject truck is '12 F350 Larriat FX4. First warranty issue was switch stalk. The problem was that the wipers would give one cycle (occasional/intermittent) when key was first turned on. The problem re-surfaced within the part warranty time frame (but now after 3yr/36k miles) and dealer told me the issue was not turn stalk but now BCM. This cost $500 to replace. Next issue was dome lights not coming on with door and this was also attributed to BCM. This was a while ago so don't recall actual time between BCM failures but dealer did not offer warranty on part. Now dome light issue has re-surfaced but it is an intermittent issue. Dealer has told me that the parts warranty is only 90 days. I've also had numerous issues with power folding mirrors. Is this common? Door lock key fobs have been problematic (since almost new) as well (it's not the batteries). I've also replaced the DEF heater (like in your "Must See" video) and I think something is haywire in the ignition switch key installed sensor (seat can't decide if it wants to slide forward or backward until I turn the key). Ugh! I have an '00 7.3 l F350 XLT (bought new in '99) which now has 370,000 miles. Original engine, stock injectors, no real big problems until a couple weeks ago when the original auto-tranny finally gave up. Truck has been great and the only electrical issues I have ever had were a speed sensor on the rear diff and had to replace camshaft sensors. New truck seems to be very mechanically reliable but not in regards to the electrical.

ARod I have a 2012 F-350 6.7 4x4 crew cab long bed my door ajar switches work and the indicator on the dash works my interior map lights work but won’t shut off when you exit the truck , if the dome light bulb is blown will that cause the lights to stay on and it has no high beam headlights the high beam indicator comes on on the dash , I have checked all the fuses and they are good I am going to replace the rear seat dome light bulb and check for power to the headlights, if I have power to the low beams could I not have power to the high beams even if the high beam indicator is coming on on the dash

ARod, at 4min 10sec into your video you are supposed to be checking fuse #12 (15 amp), but you are checking the wrong one. You are checking fuse #11 (10 amp). Double check what I'm saying here (I might be wrong). But this video did diagnose my problem exactly on my 2012 F350. Easy enough to buy the BCM. Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to program the BCM. Thanks for the help!

Hey arod. I have the same issue with my 2016 F350 6.7 powerstroke. But, it happened when I switched all my lights inside with the Vleds product. I know there’s a setting on the BCM that I need to change but I don’t know or I can’t see the option when I use the forscan. Anyway you can point me to the right directions on how to get a copy of the bcm spreadsheet for a 2016 F350 SD 6.7 powerstroke? And recently, about 3 days ago I’ve noticed when I lock my truck it doesn’t do the courtesy flashing light when you press lock on the remote one time. Thanks for any feedback.

I have 2 SDs (2016 and 2015, Platinums) and installed airbags on both for level towing. I can't find a supply for the illumination for the switch pane with press gauge. I have a chassis upfitter manual and find no mention it there either. Have an idea of where there is a source for that, there is one?

John Nogueras -Hi John, what I found out is you do need the IDS software and hardware interface. I looked into buying it and the price is around $3000! And the software requires a key which is only good for one year and at which time you have to pay to renew for another year. This is the only way to reprogram these boards.
