Who'da guessed? The light dimmer switch! Although on a Toyota Sienna 2007, it is an interior light on/off switch on the dash (no dimmer capabilities on that switch). Thank you for saving me/us expensive mechanic fees! You rock!

My 06 F150 dome light wounld't turn off. I checked the door hinges and door switch in the door. Kept draining my battery. Problem was I had turned on the dome light dimmer switch into the on position. Your channel is a lot of help for us automotive challenged guys.

You know, I often criticize YT vids for stating the obvious. But sometimes, even "experts" like me need reminders of what is right in front of us. I didn't watch the whole video because--one minute in--you solved my problem. I had been chasing my tail for ours, pulling switches, looking for shorts--hours wasted because I overlooked the obvious. I had been cleaning my dashboard and accidentally bumped the dimmer to full on. It took me searching the bleeding internet to find this video to have someone tell me the obvious. I will never again complain about troubleshooters who go for the dumbo bit straight off the bat. And, BTW, Thank you!!!!!!!!

My girlfriend dome light wasn't going off and I tried to figure it out on my own but I couldn't figure it out and then she told me not to mess with it and we would mess with it in the morning. Keep in mind; there is a timer involved with the driver's side door vs. the passenger side door. Light will stay on about a minute after you close the driver's side door, but goes out immediately when you close the pass. side door. It can trick a person!

Love this I washed my 2001 Ford Excursion clean inside and out and after that the running bord lights and dome stay on. forced me to take fuse #4 out to save the battery. today I see this video and boy when I clean the car I accidently turn the light switch on. Thank you for the video it was wonderful.

How about a dome light that stays on anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 and a 1/2 minutes before it decides to go off? My 2013 Ford Edge does that every time I get in it now. That along with the warning notification on the dash saying my left rear door is ajar (which its not), is irritating.

@@1AAuto great tutorial but recently i bought 2 new dome light switches (whole piece with working lights) and one of them only turns light if i flip switch to the "OFF" position Is there a way to fix it and make it turn om with door (the other one works good but having the 2 working good us good if one blows)

After I checked my 2000 Windstar door switches, and backdoor switches failed. Buttons got stuck because of lack of lubricant or grease. sprayed with WD40 and the latches worked like new but there was still a problem. All the interior lights still stay on. I gave up because it was already nighttime. I removed all the bulb lights inside my van that don't turn off to avoid draining my battery. I gathered all my tools and stopped working. After having our dinner, I still don't feel relax because I keep on thinking of what the problem would be. I went to KZbin and found this A1 Auto Repair tip video. I was enjoying watching the video because the guy has a sense of humor. When it comes to that portion of the dimmer switch next to the headlight switch, I paused the video and grab my Windstar key, ran and opened my garage. I checked the dimmer switch, and it was on the ON position. I put one bulb back inside the dome light then adjust the dimmer and it worked. The light will now turn off when I shut the door. All doors are working and will turn off the dome light. So, I took all light bulbs and put them back. It only took me less than 10 minutes to make it work again. I was working with that for almost 2 hours this afternoon and can't find the problem. Hey A1 auto repair guy, thank you so much for that video. That is why watching A1 repair videos will save you time. Hey, you guys out there having problems with your cars, subscribe like I did. Watch the video, buy the parts from A1, do it yourself and they are right, you save lots of money. I just want to thank you.

Sticky door latch mechanism will cause the latch to not fully rotate and not engage the micro switch on the latch. Using WD-40 and some maintenance lubricating the latch and the hinges is supposed to be routinely done. If your hinges are good and door alignment is good, it’s likely do to lack of lubrication on the latch inside the door. Try some WD-40 on the latch cam a lubricate the latch assembly and see what happens. Notice when he rotated the latch cam with a screw driver, the light went out. In the Ford truck scenario, it was obvious the hinges were bad but that’s not always the case.

1 week the lights were on, it drained my battery, I paid 100 dls for 2 relays and mechanics $$$/hour etc. etc. after 1 week without a car, 300 dls spent, and then I see this video. I go out to turn my switch off like you said, and WALA!!!!! they're off. I was taking it to an electric mechanic right NOW because there was an electric false contact. Toyota camry 2006 - So the problem in my case was the switch itself, the contact inside of the sliding button was very bad so little bit of sanding with sanding paper and wiping with alcohol based liquid fixed the issue! Thanks for you videos man!

Now I'm confused although your tips were helpful it did not fix my issue of the interior dome lights staying on, in my 2003 Acura mdx. Never had issues before. I went out to lock my doors and noticed the dome lights on. Going around the vehicle opening and closing the doors didn't work. So I tried each door switch, including the hatch and it only turned off my door courtesy lights. I pulled the fuse do to no other options.

I’ve got a 2006 Chevy Colorado. I’ve finally decided to replace my dome light that’s been burnt out for years. Bulb was slightly discolored so I replaced it. However, the light didn’t turn on when the door was opened. So I figured to next replace a fuse. However I’ve been searching for at least an hour and cannot seem to find any video/forum describing what fuse runs the dome light in an ‘06 Colorado. Any ideas?

Mine would turn on & off at random times including door lights and back seat door/floor lights. She also liked to randomly roll her windows 1/2 way up or down and the cruise control only worked 1/4 the time. She did it from the day I got her, so I named her Christine. My headlights started acting up along with random battery drain to nothing sitting overnight. Finally took her to the shop and they found wires underneath that run from the front to the back were exposed & 1 was damaged, but mostly the found the PCM or PCU was faulty. That's why she was throwing codes like crazy. As soon as one code was addressed 5 more would pop up. Trying to do any resets on these newer cars feels like your playing drunk twister with colorblind opponents. Miss the good ol day when you could fit your hand in there to work on your own stuff & there were no computer components and parts were a dime a dozen.

I got one for you. Dome light stays on after doors are closed and alarm is set. Flickers when I slam all 4 doors on my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. I replaced the headlight switch combo/dimmer/fog lights. The buzzer stopped but some light still stays on. Here’s the kicker: dome light eventually turns off so battery is saved. Next steps: checks for button switch on doors; hinge integrity; latches and map light.

My 2007 ford fusion is doing something wierd. The domenlight and trunk ajar is on when my trunk is closed, but when i open the trunk the dome light and trunk ajar sign turns off. I would appreciate any help you can give me on this
