Wow ! As an irishman with 5 irish dancers in the family (not me - I have 2 left feet !) I'm amazed by this rendition of RiverDance. I;ve heard this music litterally thousands of times - amazing to hear the difference in interpretation and tonality.High--pitched dulcimer instruments in place of thundering drums ! These girls clearly love what they're playing too. Hupyaboya ! to all involved. (= "Up you boy you" in polite company... applies even to 12 girls)

They call Twelve Girl Band. They're 12 chinese girls taken from the most imoportant school of music and assembled to create a unique band. They mix traditional chinese(played with traditional instrument) and contemporary music. Great!

the beautiful sounding vertical flute at the beginning is a xiao, then the 2-stringed fiddle is the erhu, the pear shaped plucked guitar is called a pipa, the smaller flute played horizontally is a dizi, the hammered dulcimer played by striking it with two hammers is a yangqin

These original members were the best. They did tour America in 2005 and 2007. But they don't perform together any more. I don't think the newer version of this group tours the west.

I'm chinese too and I also love traditional Chinese music. But I have to say that I think the 12 girls band has done an amazing job pulling both the chinese and western world together. I am a musician and I think their ensemble playing is very tight and clean. I'd also say that they have help popularise chinese music and instruments. So I think this is something we chinese should be proud of. = )

The 12 girls band should've definitely played some music for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics on August 8, 2008...it would've been perfect because these are all traditional Chinese instruments!! It would've been great!!
