In your upcoming Lumafusion video, could you cover whether the editing from an external drive could also work straight from a phone or an SD card reader. If I can take footage straight from my Android without having to copy to the iPad hard drive that will have on impact on which iPad I buy. Also, reading Lumafusion's release it appears that this feature requires USB-C or Thunderbolt. This would rule out the basic iPad for anyone who wants this feature, right?

I brought the 11 inch m1, decided it wasn’t big enough, returned it and got the 12.9, which has an amazing screen but is too heavy and big to cart around on a daily basis, which i want to do. Returned the 12.9 and I have now settled on 11 inch m1 cellular 512 gb, apple keyboard and pen. I think this will be good for 5 years for me. I could have gone for the 1TB but i think that is more then I need. The keyboard on the 11inch actually feels better then the 12.9 as there isn’t as much key “reach” for me and I am taking it everywhere. The 11inch feels more personal and just better for me. The two week return policy does help you work out what you need.

I’ve been using an iPad Mini 4 for a long time. Decided it was time to replace. But this time I actually went with the iPad 9. I liked the smaller size of the mini. But I didn’t need the upgrades to the mini 6. IPad 9 gave me all that I needed (watching videos, listening to music and less intense games). Plus the larger screen let me better read graphic novels better. Plus iPad 9 was $170 less. Know what you’re using it for, then go for it.

I got the entry-level 32 GB iPad 8 about six months ago, mostly as an occasional laptop replacement for email, web browsing, note taking, streaming video (KZbin, Netflix, etc.), eBook reader, etc. But, no games, no downloaded music or video, and no downloaded content except for eBooks. I was worried 32 GB wouldn't be enough. It's more than enough. I've installed all the apps I want and am and still using less than half of the 32 GB. If I wanted, I could free up a few GB by uninstalling apps I never use.

With digital art, your capabilities in the ever-popular Procreate app relies solely on RAM. It directly limits the number of layers you can use in Procreate and that includes grouping. This is important if you want to avoid destructive editing; where you have to flatten layers just to have more layers to add to the file. I prefer the 11.5" because it fits in my lap nicely while drawing and taking notes, and is big enough for typing an email on my $60 Logitech Slim Pro keyboard. The 12" feels kind of ridiculous to me.

Hopefully this will help someone out.... I am a student in college and was looking to buy an iPad to take notes with. There were a few other things I wanted out of it but mainly the notes was the thing I wanted. I watched so many reviews and almost everyone seemed to say that the non laminated display was going to be a bad writing experience. I decided to try it out in the Apple store, and I actually didn't mind the "gap", I thought it would be a huge difference from what I kept hearing lol. So I ended up getting the iPad 9th generation, and absolutely LOVE it. It really suits my needs, and the writing experience is wonderful. So glad I didn't pay the difference for a laminated display. I did used to have an iPad mini, so it's not that I didn't have anything to compare it to (as the mini had a laminated display), but writing wise it really isn't bad. My other reasoning is, writing on an iPad is different from paper anyway, so another little difference won't bother me. If you are someone who is going back and forth because of this also, I recommend trying it out yourself in an Apple store. It may be perfect for you!

This was a really well done, video. I now have almost 5,000 music files plus many audio files that I link to them. The one thing I was sorry I paid for was cellular option. The iPad Pro was basically replacing an iPad Air 2 that was cellular & I used them cell service when camping & sometimes as a large navigation screen when traveling. The Pro is too large for that and I’ve never activated cell service and most probably never will. Btw, I’m still using the Air2 as a second ‘music book’ and for the cell service when traveling. Sagi, again a great video! Thanks for that. Just recently it happened that the AC+ for my iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) model ended. Surprisingly Apple now offers (at least in Germany) an option to extend that AC+ on a monthly basis. As far as the Apple support explained you can extend the AC+ for as long as Apple offers support for your device, which is usally at least 5 years for iPads. Keeping that in mind this in my opinion is a strong argument for keeping your older iPad - e.g. my 2018 iPad Pro - for a few more years.

Oh man I *just* got my 11' iPad Pro a few days ago! I'm a student so I probably didn't need the M1 chip for something like video editing, but I got the Pro to help with being future proof. Same here. Went with the 11” 512gb. Going to be my main device for school, plus mobile gaming and just a little video editing. I came from the latest generation IPad mini. I liked the smaller size for portability and bought it when it first came out. So I was due for an upgrade. Now that I’m going back to school, I needed a bigger screen but didn’t want one too big. I use my iPad exclusively for making music. Honestly, my iPad Air 2 still works fine for everything that I need. BUT it has 128 Gb of storage and that's totally full now. So I have to get a new one. And it has to be 256 Gb or more, so I'd need at least an new Air or Pro 11. Frankly, the price difference on these 2 models isn't that big and the extra processing power (and availability of a 512 Gb model) means that I'll probably get the Pro, even though the display isn't so important to me.

I bought the 12.9 iPad Pro 2017 a few years ago and will be upgrading to the 11" M1 iPad Pro today. Honestly, the 12.9 screen is way to large, I feel a lot more comfortable drawing on smaller displays. Especially since the 2017 iPad Pro has these large bezels that make it even more uncomfortable. But well, I didn't buy nice so I have to buy twice :)

I purchased the iPad Pro 12.9 M1 iPad, and I’m so glad I did! It’s super powerful and works faster than my old one. Even though I made several mistakes you mentioned (mainly storage) I'm honestly very satisfied with my iPad 8 32gb that I bought for about $350... vs if I buy the 128 gb which would cost $490 because it's out of my budget since I also need to buy the Logitech keyboard (used for $35!). The downside, however, is that I constantly worry about storage and perhaps won't be able to maximize my usage if I bought the 128gb one. I’ve owned the 10.5” iPad Pro since it launched in 2017 and finally decided to upgrade to the 12.9” M1 iPad Pro because I wanted the larger display for teleprompting and for editing photos in Lightroom. Side-by-side, the new miniLED display on the 12.9” is clearly superior to the old display of the 10.5” and makes a difference when editing raw photos. However, the old display is still no slouch and holds up well compared to the 11” M1 iPad display. I plan to keep the 12.9” M1 iPad Pro for at least 4 years and still keep the 10.5” iPad Pro around as a backup or when I want to travel with a smaller, lighter device. I’ll likely replace it outright if the next generation 11” iPad Pro features a miniLED display like in the 12.9” model.
@sonicvboom

Why would you replace your 12.9' if and when a 11' mini-LED becomes available? Do you find 12.9 a nuisance/ too big for photo editing? Also, can one take advantage of the above 500+ nits during photo editing? Or is that "feature" only available when watching HDR movie contents?

6:12, the base iPad has stereo speakers. The way it's phrased 'moving up to the Air you're getting a significant improvement in the quality of speakers and you're also getting stereo speakers' leads one to believe the base iPad doesn't have stereo speakers... which it does. You could say 'horizontally-opposed speakers', which would be accurate.

First off, if you’re buying a base model 8th gen iPad get the 128GB model. Spend the extra $100 and have no worries. Unless your need a iPad Pro for PROFESSIONAL drawing or really need USB-C YOU DO NOT NEED IPad Pro. I have the 8th gen iPad base model 128GB. I use it every day for garageband and LumaFusion, with occasional Call of Duty mobile with no stutter at all. My only complaint is lack of usb-c. I’m a big file mover with external drives. It’s a bit of pain with lightning but it’s Doable. My only gripe. If you need it for regular day to day tasks. Save yourself ALOT of money and don’t worry about what everyone else has, the 8th gen will last years with software support. Some tech channels will tell you otherwise but they’re full of it for monetization.

I've had the 2021 12.9 iPad Pro with magic keyboard for a month or so. This configuration is the closest I've come to using an iPad as a laptop replacement. It's a little clunky in terms of saving files and multitasking, but the addition of the touch screen capability with the keyboard/trackpad make for a nice working experience compared to my MacBook Air. I have easily been able to do 95+% of the tasks on I used to do on my MacBook with relative ease. Given the ability to pull the tablet off the keyboard case and use it like a tablet is a real plus. Still room for improvement, but it's come a long way. The downside - this configuration costs as much as or more than a MacBook Air.

Stumbled on this at a very timely point as I am going into the store to replace our iPads tomorrow. We currently have 2 x iPad Air Gen 1 32GB out of storage & 128GB circa 2013-14. Both of these are no longer receiving latest updates and have only been kept for playing games. Gen 1 9.7 Pro 128GB circa 2016 with cellular and a stuck update and Gen 1 12.9 Pro 32GB circa 2015 out of storage again. Given that these are all more than 5 years old we are updating to 2 x 12.9 Pro. This is mainly for the larger screens and we will be updating storage to 256GB. Non cellular options as we have enough data with our phones to use hotspots if required. Our pc and laptop are also Apple circa 2017 (not looking to update these any time soon) but a lot of file stuff can be done using google sheets & docs on the iPad plus I like that I can add an external drive now. Thanks for confirming my decisions
