"It doesn't matter what you look like. You can be tall or short, or fat or thin, or ugly or handsome... like your father. Or you can be black or yellow or white, it doesn't matter. What does matter is the size of your heart and the strength of your character." Really wish there were more shows like this. And seriously though, we would've been better human beings if we had listened to Herman.

I saw an Instagram post with that last clip attached to it yesterday. That’s what brought me here. I completely agree with you 100%, we would live in a much better world if we’d just listen to the advice of our past. Now I want to go back and watch these episodes, including the one that contains the advice about the police, because I want to see what he was talking about! I wonder what people have to say about that one now.

I was a kid when the show first started. I loved it then and I still do love it. Some people don't get it: Herman is a type of Frankenstein's Monster. His wife is the daughter of a Vampire, and Eddie took after her. LMAO. GOOD STUFF!

I also think that it was clever to bring Marilyn into the picture. She is the only one who took after the HUMAN side. Although she is gorgeous, they act like she is the ugly one in the family. LMAO

Fred Gwynne was only a young man of 38 when the Munsters TV series began in September 1964. He was 40 when the series ended in 1966. But he was wise well beyond his years & although he portrayed a rather goofy Frankenstein-type monster in "The Munsters", he always had a strong moral compass, words of wisdom, he was a good family man & his heart was always in the right place ❗❤

It actually had been going that way for a while astonishingly, for about a decade. On TV, The Rifleman with Chuck Conners did something like that even earlier (the show started in the late 50s), with Mr. McCain and his son helping a Chinese laundry facing prejudice. In movies, the 1950 film Broken Arrow famously supports Native Americans and features a US general saying that the Bible "says nothing about pigmentation of the skin". Two Academy Award winning movies in the late 50s, South Pacific and Sayonera, even showed interracial marriage in a positive light. Filmmakers were getting bold by the 60s, and people's eyes were gradually opening.

THESE are the kind of shows we need on TV. None of that "reality" garbage or "how many women can one man sleep with" or " these rich people are C.R.A.Z.Y. don't you want to be them" or "what happens when you lock twenty sociopaths together in a single house with video cameras" or "this show has cartoon characters, so it MUST be good for kids, never mind the constant bullying, needless character deaths played for laughs, crude language and despicably rude behavior".

"Herman's Child Psychology" (Season 2, Episode 1) had to be one of the oddest episodes of the series, and that's saying something considering the show in question. It's made plainly obvious that Herman is attracted to a bear and insinuated that he might be willing to cheat on Lily with the bear. Who would've thought? Potential bestiality in an "innocent" 1960s sitcom.
