Hello everyone, today's case is a little different, however, I got many requests to cover this case. This case takes us to Anchorage Alaska during the late 60's, 70's and early 80's. A young couple Robert and Darla Hansen moved to Anchorage 1967. The city was going through a boom due to the Alaskan Pipeline being built. Robert (known as Bob to his friends) opened a bakery right in downtown Anchorage. He also got his pilot's license and purchased a small airplane he kept at a local airport called Merrill Airfield. His neighbors and people at church described Robert as a nice guy but this couldn't be further from the truth. He was an absolute monster who robbed this Earth of dozens of women, maybe more.. We'll sadly probably never know the actual number, however, at least 17 have been tied to him. Unfortunately, this went on for over a decade before he was finally caught. Cindy Paulson is an angel on Earth who was able to escape him, and identify him to the authorities. Cindy, like all the women in this case are both heroes and Angels. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who affected by this horrible man🙏🙏
This is the story of the "butcher" baker of Alaska, and how he was caught.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the women who lost their bright futures due to him, and all those who survived, and I pray for John Douglas and Frank Rothschild who helped put him away. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 He was given 461 years plus life in prison and he ultimately died in prison.
Thank you for watching and please be respectful in the comments if you choose to leave them 🙏

the judicial system also fails the criminals too. they're never truly rehabilitated and have no idea how to fix themselves neither does the system . then repeat offending ?99%? of times costing tax payers trillions because they get thrown back inside. only a very rare few make a normal life get a job find a good woman and keep away from the culture they're embedded in.

I'm a new sub & this is my first comment. I'm not a regular true crime viewer but I do like anything outdoors. These cases fit my outdoor interests especially those of people missing in the NPS & Forest. Had no idea there had been this many missing person cases until I came across the Paulides videos/movies. Also, want to let you know that your kindness doesn't go unnoticed. Sadly, it's becoming a rare trait.

Such incompetent police. "We have an FBI profiler on loan to us and we're REALLY desperate to find this killer. Oh, this young lady claims she escaped almost being butchered by some random guy? Let's not believe her"
@JenniferDeutsch49
@JenniferDeutsch49 2 жыл бұрын
That is not entirely true. They did believe her at first, they went to his house and yes it looked like what she described but he hid the incriminating evidence first. So they were not able to find evidence. Sadly back then Rape kits and DNA not really a thing. Then she fled and ran away it took the Troopers a while to find her again. She was afraid to testify against him, which I could not blame her. The Troopers took what the FBI said seriously because most of his murders were in their jurisdiction. He may have kidnapped from Anchorage but he did not kill them or hunt them in Anchorage.

Thank you Brian for what you are doing by bringing awareness to this terrible National reality. I researched a little and the FBI says there are over 700 serial killers in America and more are being fostered or born everyday. My best friend's younger sister was brutally raped tortured and killed in South America in the early 1980s. This is especially significant because she went down there as a volunteer with the Red Cross on a mission to help others she was barely 18 years old beautiful, blond hair and a pure seeking spirit to contribute to the plight of others as she was from a stable middle-class home. Grew up in Berkley and her name was Christine Fisher. The family was left in the unknown and the American State Department really did not provide any answers in those politically turbulent times. I do not remember what South of the Border or South American country this occurred and I have lost contact with my best friend Tom Fisher. But I do know this terrible disappearance and then later to be found a brutal murder has haunted the family and friends and we have never forgotten. Thank you

I can’t find anything on the internet discussing that. Maybe the family should rekindle interest by posting what info they do know about it. The internet is a powerful tool and obviously reaches almost all countries. Perhaps someone who had knowledge of the crime down there would come out of the woodwork if the info was out there… internet sleuths often help too. I know you lost touch, but I’m just throwing it out there. Btw, do you know if they found her body, or does she continue to be missing?

I’m glad you’re bringing this to light even if it’s uncomfortable to hear, I could be wrong but it seems killing women and children comes with much lower sentences and especially sex workers. Crimes against them get the system dragging their feet, had the state done their job who knows how many lives would have been saved. My sisters friend and classmate was killed by the green river killer, and she was just barely a blip in the news coverage. I heard they just caught a serial killer (I rather call them mass murderers) in Virginia, the shopping cart killer, kinda diminishes the horrific circumstances of his crimes. Thank you Bryan another well told compassionate portrayal of these women’s lives and deaths, my sincere condolences to their families.

The judicial system is still male dominated and many men still don't put too high a price on sexual assault and crimes against females. This continues to happen and men who obviously are going to repeat crimes are still often given a light sentence and released. I often wonder how many vicious, traumatizing attacks and murders could have been prevented if these subhumans were sentenced to what they deserved and what fit the crime in the beginning. It certainly isn't possible to rehabilitate most of these wicked people. The fact that this type of slap on the wrist is prevalent today says more than I want to know about the value of females' lives in our society.

So many mistakes are made by our so-called modern civilization here in the 21st century. I don’t think we should have much sympathy for criminals especially if they are repeat. We should just kill them, even if they are just thieves. For harming people, we should have very little tolerance. Just kill those bastards, and society will be very peaceful. It is a tiny fraction of people, about one or 2% of males, and even less females that need To be eliminated from society because they are complete psychotics. We should just kill them. No attempt to rehabilitate twisted minds that cannot be re-oriented. They are too much danger

@@lisas8244 It is clear the by the nature of sex working, there is a measure of complicity on the part of the victims, who regularly get into the cars of unchecked strangers. That complicit negligence is the reason for the short sentences. The consequence for injuring a child should be death, as they have no control over their curcumstances.

@@lisas8244 i think you are looking at things with a preconceived bias. the very same court system you are complaining about has, since the beginning, always given harsher sentences to men for crimes than it gives to women. men especially get harsher sentences when they commit crimes against women, as opposed to crimes against men. but yes, there are bizarre cases like this video, where the perpetrator keeps getting away with crime after crime. a good example is ted bundy, and there are others. i've seen so many of these videos and it keeps repeating where people keep getting released or given lenient sentences for serious crimes over and over again, like some sinister, mysterious force is helping them. i have never quite understood it. don't be so quick to blame male domination, most of ted bundys most staunch supporters were women.

@@lisas8244 The males don't care about other males either...in U.K females always get miniscule sentences even for killing baby's n stuff all they gotta say is they were depressed n having a bad day n get let off...or a group crime if a female involved she will get say 6 months whilst the males get 10 yrs for example...courts in British hugely sympathise with females even if they are equally responsible or even more responsible or even solely responsible..

My brother girlfriend moved into a home in anchorage at the end of winter. 2 months later a foul liquid started dripping from ceiling onto kitchen table. My brother checked the attic and found a body. It was frozen when they moved in. But of course it thawed out. This was in 78.

Oh one more thing, please consider covering the Maddy Scott case up in Vanderhoof BC Canada (pretty close to highway of tears, however, many suspect Maddy's case is not related to those murders). Young lady VANISHED from a forestry campground. Big party weekend. Her tent and truck remained, but Maddy gone 😥 it's been a few years and she is still missing. Very interesting story. Lots of suspects. Intrigue. Please cover it!

Exactly right! Law enforcement had to make Hansen sound as if he were extremely smart and difficult to catch to cover for so many mistakes and overlooking Hansen in the first place. They didn't think he could possibly be the killer because he was friends with a minister? Please!!!! It wasn't that he was a genius but instead that Alaskan LE was dumber than a bucket of rocks. Had it not been for FBI profiler John Douglas you can bet the body count would have been much higher.

He flew his victims to the middle of no where and the bodies were rarely found because scavengers that took some planning and smarts he covered his tracks well. Also back then Alaska not highly populated and Anchorage was still super tiny. We are not talking about a huge police force back then. Also they did believe her at first but they could not find the physical evidence to arrest him and she chose to run away and not testify, Can not blame her honestly. Once bodies started to be found because of new expanding construction things escalated quickly and he was arrested soon after that. You do have to remember back in the 80's communications did not happen quickly and Alaska was not a simple drive to state so information took time.

So many red flags and light sentences? Seriously, psychology needs to be included for anyone and everyone in law and order. It's ridiculous how many criminals are released and re-offend. Innocent people pay the price for inappropriate sentencing and early release of violent offenders.

He is why we cannot go easy on criminals. If they get light sentences then they get emboldened ie. if I do this - maybe 5, 10, 15 times and get caught once - I will get a small sentence. So, they weight it and feel it is worth the risk. Rather than "holy crap, if I get caught I am going to jail for 5 plus years. Not worth it"

I don't know, I have to cut the police some slack for not believing that there was a guy that's abducting women, stupidly explaining to them his plan, then flying them to an island to hunt them. I thought the whole, "tell the tied up person your plan" thing was a movie trope.

They put tracking devices and find animals in the wild. Someone should invent such a device like a boot with a tracking device in the heel; or something like that. They could find people quick. It wouldn’t have to be a boot, because criminals would remove them, but I’d bet hikers would buy them if local rescue workers had the equipment to find them. It would save them a bundle too on time and search equipment usage.
