@Maria Kelly Also, the film True Lies with Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger was filmed on the older one, parallel to the one shown here. And the new bridge isn't scary. The old one was because it was narrow, one lane in either direction and no shoulders. Two trucks passing or two cars pulling boats was tense. If there was an accident, nightmare blockage and not really 7 miles long either.

A couple months ago I ran a cross country race that ended on the far side of #11, the Royal Gorge Bridge. The last quarter mile was across the bridge, and I can confirm the whole thing shakes when people are on it, and it has lots of gaps an inch or two wide. There were several people who would have placed high in the race but refused to cross it. It definitely was one of the most memorable race finishes.

Wow those are some amazing engineers who design and build these bridges, to design something so different in structure that works to take such great weight is awesome. The village hand made Bridge shows how great small communities can be and they hand make a new bridge every year. How much City dwellers could learn from these people about respect and working together as a community, well done indeed.

I’ve only been on one of these, the 7 mile bridge over the Florida keys. It may not be scary for the locals, but the first time you cross that thing, it’s a mind f-. After one or two miles, you can only see water in all directions. That does something to your psyche. And that’s when the sun is shining. Me and a friend drove to key west one summer. On the way back, it was cloudy and later on in the day. You can’t speed up, and you don’t want to stop. And all it takes is one sleepy truck driver to throw everyone into the water. The Sunshine Bridge that links St Petersburg Florida to the other side of the bay is a scary one too. Not as much as many of these. But it has a sharp incline, a high pitch, and a large vessel rammed into one of the pillars back in the 70’s or 80’s, and people just drove right off into the Gulf of Mexico. So, crossing that thing at 5 in the morning, knowing it’s history was not a pleasure.

My mom has a great fear of bridges as well due to a very abusive/traumatic experience she was put through by her ex when she was 16. I always felt so bad for my mom when my sister and I were kids and we would have to travel somewhere where there was a bridge and no other way to go around. My mom would have to have the radio off, no one could talk, she would grab the steering wheel so tight that her knuckles would be completely white, and she would be hyperventilating the entire time. When I got old enough to get my learners permit she would pull over before a bridge and jump into the back seat with my sister or a friend who would then hug my mom while I drove over the bridge and then we would switch places again after We were over the bridge.

This is a temporary railway bridge; the locals used it as a road bridge. It is already destroyed during ice drift. A new railway bridge was built nearby.

I kinda like this video. And I also greatly appreciate you converting the measurements from meters to feet. Otherwise, for some videos regarding dangerous bridges or roller coasters, I normally have to pause the video periodically, and do the metric conversions MYSELF! Which really tends to be a real pain in the butt, if you know what I mean. So thanks again for doing the conversions for me. Let's just say I'm not one of those people who can just convert meters to feet, right off the top of my head.

I honestly didn't see how "scary" the Florida keys Bridge was. I drove across it many times, and its beautiful during sunsets. My mom, who's scared of heights, also thinks its beautiful and we personally love visiting the keys. (We all scuba dive, so we aren't scared of the ocean)

Not that I'm afraid of heights, I'm just not a fan of falling to my death. I've known a few people who have had bridges and roads collapse beneath them. I'm good with never visiting any of these places. Especially the glass bridge that sounds like it's breaking. That's just f**ked up

You've known a FEW people who've had bridges and roads collapse under them? Nah mate, someone's pants are on fire
@lotusjewell99846 жыл бұрын
@@girlonfire9367 And what makes you say that?! I have indeed known people that have had situations like that happen. And since you're obviously too obtuse to be tactful; yes, there have been two times in fact and one of those people managed to survive. The road collapsed beneath his car and he went down the hillside (which was extremely steep but not a full on drop). The trees in his way slowed his descent before he hit the river at the bottom. And it was my cousin who had the bridge collapse beneath him, he was killed because of that. You really shouldn't call people liars, especially if you don't know them or have ever met them. That just shows that you are cold and rude. And quite heartless. Thank you for forcing me to remember something horrible, you dumb b*t*h.

12:53 to 14:20 Right but, San Francisco hills. True you don't have to worry about the water going up those steep roads. you just have to worry about everything else. Bonus points if you can drive a stick shift in san fran on such an incline without crashing.
@arx7544 жыл бұрын
I can (drive a stick) and have driven one in San Fran many times. Lived in Sacramento then, and many friends and family visited me, so of course, we always went to SF for a day. You just have to drop your foot VERY fast in order to not roll back when you're stopped on an incline. Actually taught a friend to drive a stick, in Sacramento, because she wanted to buy a car with a stick shift. She bought the car and I taught her. Went fine until she suggested a trip to SF and wanted to drive and take her car versus mine. Once we were in the City, first stop sign she came to was at the top of an incline. Stopped, but then every time she tried to go forward, the car rolled back. Frankly, we were in stitches, laughing about it. FINALLY, she gave up, so I took the driver's seat and drove until we left the city.
