The finger stretching thing is actually valid I think - you're right, you don't usually flex your fingers outward like that, but that's precisely the reason this is a helpful recovery tool. You're working on your antagonist muscle movements, stretching and relieving the muscles you usually use.

Dear Mr. Chen, I didn’t know who you are until I saw your performance at the supermarket at KZbin. I was so impressed and so were the people listening to your performance. Since then I started to subscribe to your channel and looking forward to learn more about you. A little about of myself: I am an Chinese American from California living in the suburbs of San Francisco. Study graphic design also went to the University of Berkeley to study fine art. Currently am retired but am pursuing my fine art painting also have been an amateur photographer for a forty years. At age 70’s I’m starting to learn how to play the piano. (Haven’t given up learning new things.) Growing up in San Francisco we couldn’t afford lesson or for that matter a piano but had always loved listening to classical music. Now my number one dream is to learn how to play Mom favorite song, “The Butterfly Lovers” Mom passed away this Spring (she was 94 and had an adventurous life coming to America in 1947.) I just wanted to learn this piece of music so I can play this song to remember her by. Sorry to bored you with so much detail, mom always said: “Take care of the customer, and quit talking so much.” So, that is part of the story of my life. Take care and have a blessed Christmas Holiday and a wonderful New Year. 🙏🙏🙏

For eliminating violin wolf notes, I’ve learned a trick from one of the luthiers, which is totally not intrusive to the instrument. That is to cut about 2cm long of thicker adhesive tape (e.g. one of those tennis racket frame protection tape or the tape that fixates an overgrip on the racket handle) , then wrap the tape around the A and D strings together, at the location above the saddle and inside the pegbox. Not too far above the saddle though. You’d be amazed this works. Unnoticeable if the tape is black and imho better than something dangling and visible near the tailpiece

1st finger goes on the other side of the back end of the snail. This is for training new players how to hold the bow. There are several forms of this on the market. For special needs children this is a great help.

@@worgle123 Well it happened in June so I am on the mend but progress has been slower than expected.... I need FULL wrist flexion for my bowing and this eludes me for the present - I'm a beginner learner though and was inspired to take up the violin by Brett & Eddy, bless 'em - but I am getting there. Thanks for your concern. FYI, I started taking K2 in powdered form for my possible bone porosity. K2 stops Calcium leaching from your bones and locks it in. The BEST source is NATTO - fermented soya bean and it comes from Asia. I ordered mine from Korea. It's pleasant to take added to water. I don't know how you are breaking bones but this could help. It's an essential vitamin anyway. Happy practicing!

My favourite 'device' 😄 is definitely the colourful Catrpilr practice mute..... because I already have one! (just in different shade) 😁 and the sound is soooooo much better with it, than with a rubber version. The only issue is that you have to be careful putting it on, because it has magnets, so the 'putting-on-phase' is a bit fussy. I could also use a wolf note eliminator (though rather one that works 🤭) - my C isn't that bad, but F.............................😖 😉

My first violin teacher recommended using an empty toilet paper roll to get a feeling for bowing straight. It kindof worked and was much cheaper than the fancy contraptions rayviewed in his vieeo.
@wakingtheworld Жыл бұрын
How does that work exactly? Someone suggested a bent straw pushed into the F holes but my bow kept rubbing up against it and the straw moved anyway. Playing in front of a mirror helps but not easy reading music that way....

Ray, when you release some stiffness, you do the opposite direction of the move that stiff your fingers. Many gamers use such thing bcoz as you can see, they hold the mouse almost exactly as you do with the grid. ... and you should use it in the middle of the practice, not in the beginning, bcoz its not for warming up... its for releasing the stiffness of the muscles for longer practice.
