Hi Jen, after spending a few days out of my daily routine I come back and see that you, in the middle of nature, are really a ray of sunshine🍁💖 for me and, I'm sure, for most of your viewers. You always make us feel great when we hear your cheerful voice. I was soaking up sun on the beach. First, I thought that it`ll be impossible, but I realized that the sky is the limit, and I encouraged myself to follow my dream. Some friends told me, that due to current pandemic situations, the idea of going on vacation would be as if I was chaising rainbows, so for a few moments I thought if I really had my head in the clouds. So, I said to myself, oh! no, no, I need a breath of fresh air. I took a deep breath and thought, well: I really feel fresh as a daisy. So, I didn`t let the grass grow under my feet and I got going🚕. Jen, these idioms are awesome, and very enjoyable to learn. I don`t know I`ve put them in right environment. Have a nice weekend. 🍁👏🏼

Hi Santiago 🌞. It is nice to hear from you🦋. From your comment it sounds like you recently returned from a vacation on a beach somewhere? If so, I hope you had a great time. Or if I misunderstood and you're planning to go on a trip, I hope you will have a fun and safe holiday ☀️. Or if you were just practicing using the nature idioms from the lesson, then well done 😉 😆. I fully understand your sentence about how wanting to on vacation right now is chasing rainbows 🌈 . I think we just need to wait a bit longer and then next year - the sky's the limit...as long as we have enough money to travel 😅. I mean, I love Toronto, but I haven't left the city in a long time to the pandemic! Getting away for awhile will be a breath of fresh air for sure! 🌺 Where will you / did you travel? Thanks for your nice comment and good use of the idioms from this video. I hope you have a great weekend and wonderful week ahead 🌻.

Thank you so much for introducing these idioms, I enjoy this topic as a nature lover! I always find that learning idiom is a good way to understand the logic behind certain language speakers. We also have something like 'having your head in clouds' in Cantonese, but Mandarin speakers cannot understand if we say that lol, even though we are both Chinese.

Hi JeN! I was amazed and pleased to know that you kicked off today’s lesson with the idiom which you taught me the other day,“ A ray of sunshine ”.I'd like to say again you're a ray of sunshine for me in my life.Following ‘ Question of the Day ’ I describe someone who is a ray of sunshine . They are my family,my friends,my mentor,the teacher and the fellows of an English conversation class,and last but not least,needless to say,it's you,JeN! They have been enriching my life.They give me the time to stop and smell the roses. You looked absolutely cheerful under the sun.You're like a sunflower.Where’s the location?Is that Queen’s Park?The park is quite huge and well-maintained. I think my desire to be fluent in English like a native speaker is like a pipe dream and I still have a long way to go. However,you'll never find a rainbow if you're looking down.( From the words by a great comedian Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin). By the way, ‘ Quiz of the Day ’. A:How did he do in the 100-metre dash preliminary? B:Unfortunately,he wasn't able to advance to the final. There were a lot of great sprinters in the group ,and on top of that,it was sizzling hot today. A:You mean he couldn't ( ) ( ) the ( ),right? B:You said it ! What words do you put in the three brackets? Have a nice day! Ikuo
@JeNsJyugyou

Hi Ikuo 🌻. Actually, chatting with you here in the KZbin comments inspired me to create this nature idiom lesson...that combined with the fact that several viewers have been suggesting that I try leaving my apartment making lesson in a different location. 😅 It is great to hear that there are so many people in your life who are a ray of sunshine for you! Surrounding yourself with positive people is definitely a good thing to do ☀️. I feel honoured to be included among all those lovely sounding people you know. I also love your use of the idiom, 'stop and smell the roses'🌹. I didn't see any roses on my nature walk, but if I had maybe I would've thought to include that idiom in this lesson as well. 😃 The park and nature trail I filmed in are actually in a lesser known park in Toronto called Cedarvale Park. I felt hesitant about going to a really popular place because I was worried that it would be too noisy to film. I also get really nervous when I am trying to film and strangers stop and watch me 😅. Your dream of becoming fluent is totally possible. I think it's key to remember that even native speakers who are fluent make mistakes in English sometimes and don't know every single word in English. Based on your comments here on KZbin, it seems like you're fluent in written English at least wink😉. Keep going and don't give up. The sky's the limit. Your quote by Charlie Chaplin was interesting...however, if you're in an airplane, you could find a rainbow by looking down 😆 lol. As for your quiz, as an English teacher I feel like I could put many, many different words in the blanks: "You mean he couldn't run in the heat, right?" "You mean he couldn't quite handle the pressure, right?" "You mean he couldn't win at the Olympics, right?" Not sure what answer you were looking for, but the possibilities seem endless 🤓. Anyways, I hope you have a great weekend and can also take some time to enjoy nature🦋 .

@@JeNsJyugyou Hi JeN!Thank you for the feedback.Your comment about Charlie Chaplin's words is quite interesting.I think it's important to have a broad mind.It's actually normal that people view things from a different point of view.They say “ One man's meat is another man's poison.” As for the quiz,I intended to make a sentence that have a twofold meaning. get through the heat =to be able to pass the preliminary =to be able to overcome the heat So,the answer is “ You mean he couldn't get through the heat,right?” Does this sentence make sense? Is this grammatically correct? In your previous comment,what does “ at least wink ” mean?I looked it up in my dictionary in vain(>_

Hi Ikuo ✨. Your riddle is quite amusing now that you've told me the answer you had in mind👍🏻! Wow, the fact that you made such a pun shows an amazing grasp of English 🤩. You're right, in English this type of quiz / joke is called a pun. Puns make use of words that have more than one meaning. When I was a child I loved the following pun Q: Why did the man throw the butter out the window? A: He wanted to see the butterfly (butter fly) 🧈 🦋 😂. In Japanese believe that puns are usually called おやじギャグ😁. I actually really enjoy this type of humour 😄. Thanks for sharing your wonderful pun with me. You nailed it! 😎 Also, sorry for making you search in a dictionary due to my typing mistake. When I write comments on KZbin I enjoy using emojis as I think thy make my comments and responses look more cheerful and exciting. On my MacBook I just type the word of the emoji I want to use, then the emoji comes up and I click on it to add it to what I'm typing. When I do that, the word itself usually disappears, but it seems that in my previous comment to you when I wanted to use the winking emoji, the word 'wink' didn't delete after adding the emoji the way it usually would. The exact sentence should have been, "Based on your comments here on KZbin, it seems like you're fluent in written English at least 😉" My meaning being that I don't know what your speaking or listening skills are like in terms of fluency, but it seems to me that you have good English writing skills 🤗. I hope to read more of your puns in the future 😁.

Good morning Jen, well, I don’t know how to answer your question because my parents are a ray of sunshine for me but my friends as well so I don’t think there is only one answer besides I know I’m very complicated sometimes but I think my whole family isAnd sometimes there’s just not only one answer however like I said that could be my friends and family by the way how are you doing ? I hope you are doing well, my aunt and I are improving our English a lot thanks to you! My aunt told me that I might be your best student but I know she was joking and you would never have a favorite student because to you we are all the same which makes me very happy because I would never want a preferential treatment because maybe I speak a bit better English and I’m not even that good! I am just fluent because my brother is and my brothers to have helped me to learn English since I was free and I asked for the first time! By the way I am doing so much better and I can’t say I fully got over the girl who joked about you being the survivor of a shooting! I’m so happy now and even if she’s out of my life I guess it was for the best and I’m not complaining by the way how did you learn to sing so well? I think if you were a singer you would be famous all around the world because you have a great voice! I’m not kidding! And do you have your head in the clouds it’s something we say in Eataly too By the way however we use it in a different way because we also use it to say that someone isn’t quite there with their mind for example when you’re not paying attention to what someone is saying but I think it’s the same as in English! There is no difference and instead of saying chasing rainbows we say building castles in the air! We don’t really have a translation for being afraid of sunshine because we do not have any idioms for that we simply say that someone makes us feel happy or cheerful and we also use a breath of fresh air so a lot of these idioms are very similar to the Italian ones however not all of them! I hope my explanation was interesting! And I hope you will visit our country soon of course when this pandemic ends because right now we are all stuck in our own country is bad maybe next year you will visit! I would love it to be honest and I’m not sure but I would love to meet you and I think you might would like to meet me as well!

Hello Lara ☀️. Thanks for your response. It's true, more than one person can be a ray of sunshine in your life. It's good to hear that you have so many positive and encouraging people in your life that it's hard to choose just one as an example. It is also great to hear that both you and your aunt are able to improve your English through watching my lessons here on KZbin. I am honestly so happy to hear that! It is nice to hear that your brothers also enjoy English and have helped you to become fluent. It is very interesting to learn that there are many similar idioms to these nature idioms in Italian. Actually, there is an idiom which I didn't include in this lesson which has the same meaning as 'chasing rainbows'. That idiom is 'to build castles in the sky'! It seems exactly the same as what you mentioned in your comment which is really cool. Thanks for sharing! ⛅️

Hhhhhh I enjoy learning English as a child when life was still peaceful, but did you say that you are always chasing the rainbow?! And why?

Hi Rafiq ☀️. I hope you not only enjoyed learning English as a child, but that you continue to enjoy learning English now, too 😉. In addition to being a good English idiom, "I'm always chasing rainbows" is also the name of a song sung by Judy Garland 🌈 . If you're chasing rainbows it means that you're trying to achieve something that probably won't, you're wasting your time trying to accomplish something that you will never be able to. Personally, I think it is a rather negative way of thinking and most of the time I prefer to believe that the sky's the limit. 💪 ⛅️
