Knicks fan here, Hakeem and Penny Hardaway were me two favorite players to watch in the 90's for their footwork alone. So much flow/swag naturally for both of them. Scottie Pippen is up there for me just for his great overall game. Ewing my all time favorite just cause well NY but what an era of talent to watch. Hakeem IMO would decimate the modern game even more than back then. Top notch talent.

I've always thought that a better challenge is putting together an 8-player roster, 8 being the minimum number I think you need to play a full 7-game series. Based on that, and considering you could use my starting 5 as my pick for your question, my call is: 1. Magic 2. Mike 3. Bird 4. Duncan 5. Hakeem Reserves: Curry, LeBron, Barkley (all 3 can play at least 2 positions, and the same can be said about all starters). With these players you can put in court several different combinations that could take our any sort of defense, I think; for example, think about Magic playing base, Curry and Mike as a "double 2" (Mile playing post, Curry open to shoot), Bird and LeBron playig "double 4" (both can shoot from almost anywhere, and both can rebound/defend in good form); or, you can go big and fast: Magic, Mike, Lebron, Barkley, Hakeem. There're at least another 12 players that could be included in this list, and the result wouldn't be "worse" for sure, so this feels unfair: Kobe, Malone (both, Karl and Moses), Dr. J, Kareem, Pipen (it kills me not including him here), Durant, Shaq, Wilt, Big O, Stockton, Garnett, etc.

LBJ - 6x All Defensive. Magic - 0. I'll take Magic over LBJ but not a PF and certainly not on the D end. I've seen LBJ guard everybody from guards to forwards to centers and do it well. He rebounds better, scores more, blokes more and steals are pretty close. Nobody can match Magic at PG. LBG at PF/SF with Bird at the other.

Every selection here is a good one. The only thing I want to introduce is that there's only 1 person that can hold the ball at a time, so touches are not unlimited so they need to work together. With all that scoring talent, a good case to have a dedicated PG instead of a scoring PG is important, as well as C who rebounds and blocks everything. Team chemistry is important.

I really like your starting 5 with Bird and Lebron at the 3 and 4, especially for the modern game! I don't know who my starting 5 would be but one thing for sure I'd want Dennis Rodman coming off the bench because he lifts the team with his energy in a way that no other player can do. If I had to pick a starting 5 right now I'd say PG John Stockton, SG Kobe, SF Michael Jordan, PF Larry Bird, C Nikola Jokic. Basically a passing nightmare with two lethal scorers on the receiving end
