Some claim that the Warriors could beat the 96 Bulls the way the game is called today, but just imagine letting Jordan, Pippen and Kukoc run around the floor with no hand checking and uncontested lanes to the basket. Sure they didn’t take 3s like they do today, but they don’t need to - and if you did need to lengthen the floor out a bit, Jordan was certainly respectable behind the arc - especially at that point in his career, and they had the guy who still has the best season 3pt shooting percentage coming off the bench. On the flip side, even without the hand checking they could use in the 90’s, Jordan, Harper and Pippen could close down passing lanes like nobody’s business and even today, there is nobody who could touch Rodman as a rebounder.

101% Agree!!!! Today's Basketball is more to the offensive side...the 96 Bulls can eat any team alive today because they were superior in terms of Defense and will win dominantly because of their offensive threat lead by MJ. No matter if it's today's rule (which Bulls need to adjust their defensive style) or back-then rule (it will be a SWEEP for BULLS and average 20 pts lead).

@josephrafferty6763
@josephrafferty6763 Жыл бұрын
@@BouchIsOnTheLoose702 There is a 0% chance that if you just dropped the 1996 Bulls and the peak Durant Warriors in a game or series that the Bulls would dominate them. Sorry. The difference in shooting and space is just absurd. Could the Bulls guard the Warriors? Maybe, but what people really don't understand is that defense in the 90s was so, so much easier than today because you have to guard about half the amount of space (less really, when comparing it to defending the Warriors). Also, the Bulls have a number of players that straight up can't be on the floor in today's NBA. Luke Longley? Durant wouldn't even see Pipen or Rodman. He'd shoot right over either of them any time he wants. That's why he's such a problem. It's basically impossible to bother his shot. The real question is could the Bulls score efficiently enough considering the fact that they aren't built to shoot a lot of 3s and instead shoot a lot of mid range 2s to keep up with a modern, optimized offense with arguably the 3 greatest shooters of all time.

People forget that apart from the three great HOF players (Jordan, Pippen and Rodman) the bulls had Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr and the x-factor: Ron Harper! He could guard as tenaciously as Jordan or Pippen. He had length and dexterity to pick up guards full court. Not only that they had four seven footers (Luc Longley, Bill Wennington, James Edwards (two time champ with Detroit!) and Robert Parish (three time champ with Boston!) That's a lot of skill, length and championship pedigree on one team. None of the GSW teams (including with KD) wouldn't stand a chance against the 1996 Bulls!

Jordan and his Bulls team would stand no chance against some of the worst teams nowadays. The lack of defense is not the reason for us having all time highs in endgame scores, its just offensive players are that much better. @@cesars2105 He'd be the starting point guard for 75% of the teams in the league. He was so much like Magic it was crazy. He just lacked the same confidence, or it seemed that way at least. Jordan definitely could (and should) have treated him differently, as he (Jordan) probably could have brought out the best in him had he taken a different approach. Jordan yelled a lot. Most people would get fired up, but Kukoc? It seemed to make him play worse. Of course in today's game, with no one covering him, Kukoc wouldn't be getting yelled at as often bc most of his shots would be uncontested. No hand-checking? Yeah, Kukoc puts up 35/g on 59% shooting. Heh, the Bulls as a whole would average about 150.

The only real way to ever determine this is in the stats. The W’s won 73 games w/o KD. Then they added the best scoring threat in the league to the best shooting backcourt of all time. The Warriors would run the Bulls socks off, they’d be dead by the 4th quarter. But if you go stat for stat when it actually mattered, as in the playoffs. According to the numbers, The Warriors would’ve beat the Bulls by 10+ points per game. Not to mention the W’s had to go through the much more talented West conf. And SWEPT every single series going to the finals, where they won In Five! The defensive stats are virtually a wash between the teams. W’s were #1 defense in the league for many years and nobody is mentioning Iggys hands and DG and KT all league defense. There big difference is on the offensive side. Sure the Bulls had MJ. But he’d have to drop 60 on 65% shooting in order to have a chance. But the W’s had 3 of the top 10 shooters of ALL TIME on their team. The Bulls aren’t coming close to 120 pts.
@serpserpserp

Loved those Bulls, but just reminding people that the Warriors that year were the 2nd best team holding opponents to a low 3pt% and the 3rd best team holding opponents to a low 2pt%, they also ranked 1st in Defensive rebounding that year and 2nd in blocks. All this stuff doesn't matter if you play fast either because the other team is on the floor trying to do this too! The 73 Warriors team is a historically underrated defensive team. Oh and the refs didn't love them, they were 23rd ranked in the league for FTA!

@@champspec I disagree. Watching both teams, I’d pick the Bulls in 5 or 6. If they played w 90s rules the Bulls would suffocate the shooters. If they play today, the Bulls would be even better offensively. No one could guard MJ. They’d get into foul trouble. No one really posts up any more so MJ would have his way. GSW is an amazing, all time great team, but MJ, Pip, and Rodman are considered the best defenders at their position. The player who would kill GSW would be Kukoc. That guy made the Bulls just not fair! He was great shooter and playmaker. I’m not sure who would guard him either?

Ignorance is bliss, i guess.. there is no team that has ever ran more and passed more than the W’s. You want to get worn out, play a team that scores 120 points with 40 assists. The defensive numbers of both teams is a complete wash. Since the W’s starters didn’t even play half the 4th qtrs in the regular season. So you take the games that actually matter. In the playoffs, the W’s swept the entire western conference(which was WAY better than the east). The numbers speak for themselves. defensive team ratings and stats show a complete wash in playoffs. But on the offensive side, the Bulls don’t stand a chance. The Warriors would outscore the Bulls by nearly 15 points per game, while holding their opponents to the same number of points. You can’t match the firepower of the Hamptons 5. Facts don’t care about feelings. Every person in this clip has a bias towards the bulls. But they’re all wrong.

Kevin Durant is one of the best of all time. But argument often now is how would these players today fair against the kind of defense of the 90's. I saw a highlight with Ja Morant yesterday and one of his amazing dunks, but no one touched him, even the opponents seemed in awe. I just can't imagine him going through the old Detroit Pistons or the Knicks of the 90's or the Bulls with Dennis Rodman and no one putting him down hard on his ass. Back to KD, the Celtics in last years playoffs employed hard defense on him, and he was flustered both him and Kyrie seemed to not know how to play basketball anymore. It was a revelation and that Boston's defense was nothing like the Bulls of 96. Those teams back then seemed to be playing almost football on the BBall court.

The NBA likes that style of play because it puts more butts in the seats (in the short term). But, it's fool's gold for the game. If something isn't done soon to restore competitiveness, ticket sales will quickly reflect the fans lack of interest. I like to see highlight worthy plays as well, but the alterations made to the rules to enable more of them is appalling. Most of todays players couldn't take the physicality of a pickup game at the local gym.

In the 91-92 season, MJ made 27 3-pointers. In game two of the finals Michael hit 6-three pointers in the first half (35 points for the half) against the Blazers. MJ was asked why he didn't shoot threes more... he answered that you get addicted to shooting threes, so it would take away from the rest of his offensive game.

Here's one thing I noticed watching GSW vs Bulls. Watching Bulls was exciting and they can adapt to different styles of game play. Watching GSW today, they depend too much on those threes, so when they can't make those threes, they have a hard time winning. Curry is impressive with those layups but Bull's defense is no joke. Another thing I see in GSW and today's game is laziness. Guys stand around waiting for 3s. And a lot of times, I'm looking at Klay and Curry and I'm yelling at the TV screen for them to "keep moving" and "get back on defense". GSW is great at shooting but Bulls is a much stronger team, mentally and physically.

Steph would shoot inefficiently more often than not. I mean the screens are an issue but this Bulls team was so OP defensively that they'd figure out how to help and switch (and they're extremely switchable). Rodman vs Draymond would be such a blast because Draymond got 90s attitude, he's the only guy who could play under those rules (and Steph is tough but not 90s tough). Dennis vs Draymond would be incredibly entertaining and please make it 90s rules because under today's rules, they both get ejected at least twice, taking away from the game. Then there's KD: arguably the most sensitive player in the league. Imagine what happens if you put Scottie on him, making it extremely tough - and then you switch to Rodman. KD is losing it, guaranteed

Additionally, the Warriors are sloppy and turnover prone, Curry extremely streaky as a shooter. Frankly, his finals and playoff performances were garbage in terms of consitency until the last couple of years. Go look up the stats... for this supposed great player, you look in the finals and see how many games he has with 20 pts or less. Curry shoots you out of games. The Magic couldn't even get the ball up half-court. And Rodman gave Shaq a real tough time and he got so frustrated that he pushed Rodman to the floor. Their full-court pressure was played to perfection, they couldn't even get the ball up halfcourt or inbound the ball. Hell, even Steve Kerr was good at the full-court pressure, believe it or not! There's no way that Warriors team would be able to beat the Bulls, and I am saying this as someone who hates the Bulls.

Game 1 jump ball Magic wins the tip seconds after that you see Nick Anderson go to the block and then sprint out to the wing to get the ball and Michael Jordan wouldn't let him touch the ball no matter what he did. I knew right then the Magic was doomed. Few plays later Penny could barley get the ball past half court due to Pippen's defense. Bulls go on a 10-0 run in the first 5-10 minutes pretty much ripping out the heart of the Magic which lead to a sweep.

That team had what is now the third leading scorer in NBA history, the number one guy in both steals and assist. They beat Kobe and Shaq, Duncan and Robinson, Olajawan Barkley and Drexler, all for the opportunity to have their ass handed to them twice. but with that Bulls teams he would have issues as there is almost no spacing. Longley and Rodman's man would just camp out in the paint waiting for him, Pippen and Harper's defenders could sag off. Jordan would still put up points because he is that good but people seem to just ignore those Warriors played great defense that year and played great team defense. When Jordan played you had to often depend on one on one defense, the Warriors wouldn't do that. They would have Iggy play Jordan up tight, try to shade him to a crowd and with very little spacing Jordan would be taking a ton of tough shots and as good as Jordan was he wasn't hitting 60% ever. Everyone likes to focus on physicality but that's not the issue, it's constantly having multiple guys challenge your shots and filtering you into places the defense wants you to because the Bulls spacing would be so compressed. You could bring in Kerr and Kukoc to help with that spacing but then you lose what made that Bulls team so awesome, the defense. This is why when people try to say the Bulls would do this or that or the Warriors would do this or that it's always foolish because each team was built perfectly for it's time. The Bulls built around Jordan exactly as they should have to compete for titles, the Warriors constructed their team during this era exactly as they should have, trying to throw one team in another era is unfair to either team as they weren't constructed for the different eras.

That Bulls team was so elite defensively, I don't see how any team would have had much of a chance in 7 games. Pippen was a 6'8" lock down defender, Jordan was elite on both ends. All 4 of those teams had dominate bigs that would have been a problem for the Bulls. The 80's teams had great teams around the bigs. While the Rockets had the greatness of Hakeem. Who could not be stopped. The Shaq, Kobe Lakers teams would have been difficult. The 96 Bulls were the most versatile style team of all time. As an overall team. One thing people always forget about the '96 Bulls is how dominate they were defensively. And when I say that, I mean this..... They would come out in the third quarter and dominate opponents with their defensive so much that the starters would not have to play the 4th quarter at all. I have watched NBA basketball since the 80's. The '96 Bulls were the only team I have ever seen consistently do that. It was like MJ and Scottie would say, ok..we're not playing the 4th quarter tonight and the team would literally make that happen to whoever the opponent was. They won 72 games. But they could've won 80. They put on the breaks and started resting people the last couple of weeks and they lost more games that they would've easily won at full strength. Unfortunately in today's game, all the focus is on offense. Defense is sooo undervalued and they hardly play any. It's all about trying to get on ESPN highlights or someone's ticktock. You let Ja Morant play against the Pistons, Knicks and Bulls of the 80's and 90's and have him try some of those plays he does and see how many rows in the stands he gets thrown. These players today would be injured so much, half of them would probably run to play international pro ball.

And they were all willing to play significant defense 90 feet. Harper’s length, athleticism, and defensive smarts disrupted Stockton’s ability to make his usual passes and get off open jumpers. Add in Pippen’s ability to defend around the court, and the Jazz’s usual clockwork offense was always out of sync. I think that the same thing would happen to the warriors. That defense was specifically designed to force you to shoot from the paint. this is what younger people don't understand. That defense was specifically designed to shut down outside shooters, and force you to go to rim to get your ass kicked. That Bulls team had amazing defensive players that made that defensive crazy. Ron Harper never gets talked about, but Ron was sick af on defense. He used to give Jordan fits. The Bulls could play anything. that is the amount of talent they had. The five guys Kerr named as a Bulls lineup was the lineup Don Nelson was always attempting to achieve. Give up a little size at the 4 and 5 but have two shooting guards and four ball handlers four very strong defenders and four offensive weapons that could create their own shots off the dribble. What an athletic talented and versatile five man squad that was. Add to that the triangle offense which teams didn't see except when they played the Bulls so they were at a disadvantage defending it. Scottie Pippen once said it takes about two years to learn it and that's if you're the team utilizing it so imagine the opposition seeing it once or twice a year when playing the Bulls and they have all those scorers coming at you from all directions. For me, the '96 Bulls is the more well-rounded and complete team than the 2017 GSW. Most teams find it hard to match up with the 2017 GSW because they have to sacrifice offense if they want to focus on defense and vice versa, and the firepower of GSW can overwhelm them. It's interesting how many of these contributors thought it would be a good player-to-player matchup. Steve Kerr said it best by describing those Bulls as being "built to play today." The rules aside, the '96 Bulls had the physical attributes to make things very difficult for the Warriors on switches, and the offensive firepower to essentially score at will. If the mandate existed to shoot 3's, both Kukoc and Kerr could have maintained a steady pace on hitting shots from beyond the arc, if necessary. The fact that the Warriors would have a really hard time grabbing a rebound would also be a giant factor in this matchup. Two small-ball lineups, but one that specialized in defense AND had the all-time leader in PPG, all-time career leader in 3-point %, and a borderline Lebron prototype facilitator on it? One game to the Warriors is indeed generous.
