Thank you!! I feel like KZbin and other platforms create the image that you have to have all these things for your baby. My husband and I live in a small space on a budget, so our first baby was bathed in the laundry basket, changed on the bed and didn't have a stroller for the first few months because she was very happy in the baby wrap. The only thing we spent money on was washable diapers and wipes which saved us money in the long run. The rest we just gathered second or third hand, mostly for free! I had her in France where they also encouraged tracking everything, but it stressed me out so I stopped and she ended up setting her own routine in her own time. My biggest tip for new mommas- try to relax and only worry when it's actually important! Stress - including the financial stress of having to buy so many things- is so bad for your health. Thanks for making this video!

I found that you don't need an excessive amount of baby clothes, especially newborn size. They grow so fast in the first few months that they hardly get to wear their outfits more than a few times! Another thing I have done without is a lot of baby furniture like bouncer, swing, bumbo, walker, stationary jumpers, etc. It's really not necessary! Pick one or two of those and you should be fine. I also really dislike light-up and battery operated, noisy baby toys. I feel like they just overstimulate Baby. Stick with rattles, teethers, or crinkly toys instead.

Funny thing that I needed almost everything from your list. :) Especially blackout curtains were a lifesaver. Without them my kiddo would woke up at 6 a.m, but with them he was sleeping until 8:30 a.m. Well, it’s one more prove that all kiddos are soooo different.... In Finland we don’t have baths at home, only shower or sauna, so I really needed to have a baby bath . 😅

A good tip I got regarding wipes: when you put baby down to change baby's diaper, put the cold wipe or two in the top of your shirt near your heart. By the time you need the wipe it will be warm. No wipe warmer needed 😊

I agree with some of these, but personally, I found the nursing bras, baby tub, changing pad, and nipple cream super helpful. I have a very large bust, so just using a normal bra just didn’t work too well. I actually ruined one of my bras doing that. The bath tub was a huge help since we bathed our daughter in there tub with it in the sink. After having her, my core was so shot and I needed her to be up higher. I tried to use my milk for my sore nipples, but it simply wasn’t enough. My daughter had a severe lip and tongue tie, so I was in a lot of pain. Once that was fixed, I still used the cream for tenderness, and it worked like a charm It’s so interesting how everyone has such a different experience!

@mirnie555
@mirnie555 5 жыл бұрын
SO STRESSFUL. I would set alarms through the night so that my son wouldn't go more than 3 hours since the start of his last feed... which, since feeds and diaper changes took about an hour, that meant I was getting 2 hours (or less) of sleep in a row. Every single time, I had to wake him up, and he was hardly ever hungry enough to eat a full feed at night... even from about 1 week old. Adding the stress of recording minutes fed/on what side/when/ pee and poop diapers.... it was insane the anxiety it created. Next time, as long as my child is behaving normally and having good pees, I'm not waking them up in the night OR recording any of it.

For me it would be different, it helps me keep track because I can’t keep track of time, so it helps me figure out what to start with when she wakes up grumpy. I don’t put pressure on tracking it every time, I just track feeds and nappies (I keep forgetting though)

I literally disagreed with everything in this video 🤣 my baby wore shoes, she used an amazing diaper cream that was also cheap and worked wonders, we had to buy lotion for her sensitive skin, a wipe warmer was the only way she would stop screaming when we changed her, I could go on but haha I'll leave it there. This is why they say every baby is different. What didn't work for you may be perfect for someone else. :)

I don't think she was saying that something like a diaper warmer isn't nice or helpful, she's saying that it, along with many of the items on her list, are not necessary. And babies aren't supposed to wear shoes until they're walking. So something like that is actually harmful to their little feet.

@@renrensiren112 yes!!! I used the wipeable changing pad but on a changing table!! Which she said she didnt need. Lol I just feel like I love everything I have that she listed and feel all was completely necessary in my house. And shoes on babies are so cute, they keep their feet warm for winter babies like mine was for example. To each their own of course :) no hate to the video just pointing out every one is different.

Such a great video! Here are 12 Alternative Product Suggestions (a mixture of Delilah and my own) for new moms: 1. Coconut oil, Corn Starch 2. Coconut oil , natural bath oil (we use Epimax bath oil - so no need for expensive lotions) 3. Warm socks if baby needs something over their feet. 4. Warm baby wipes in bra before using on baby especially in winter, also gives a little cool relieve to moms who breastfeed. 5. Any WIRELESS bra (wired bra's can cause mastitis) , Cotton on bralettes are sometimes on sale , super cheap. 6. Bath tub inserts or holding baby while taking a bath or showering (you would have to be super careful but it is possible). 7. Changing pad on table/dresser 8. (I loved using nipple cream after every feed) but you can also use your own breast milk for free. 9. Agree and Disagree , cause L's nails grow crazy fast and tears into his skin if we don't clip them but we do use normal nail clippers and not a special baby one. 10. Feed on demand, don't force a routine from day 1 , it creates unnecessary stress. 11. Let babies fall asleep in most types of "scenarios" to ensure they don't struggle in strange places or limit when and where they can fall asleep. 12. Cloth Diapers are great to reduce waste, but you can also immediately trow out diapers in an outside bin.

I've been pretty lucky with diaper rash. I have a small sample tube of Destin that I've used so little of and that's all. Our lack of diaper rash may be attributed to our cloth diapering! It's important you track diapers and feedings because every baby is different and you need to establish what is normal for your baby. Once you have that data, even though it can be stressful, its used to make sure they are healthy when you see the pediatrician, or catch problems early on.

I disagree with the nail clipper thing. My daughter's nails grow like crazy and they do not peel off easily. I have to cut hers a lot. I prefer baby safety scissors to clippers but definitely need a pair. I also liked having a change table so I could store nappies and wipes and stuff underneath. This baby I'm getting a dresser and change pad because there is no wardrobe in the room. Instead of a diaper genie or bin (which i know i would be too slack to change) I hung a scented diaper sack on the door and would put the wer diapers into it and then when it was full or there was a poopy one I would knot it and take it straight to the outside trash. Another thing I bought and didn't use is a baby swing, my daughter hated it! Instead we used an old style metal and crocheted bouncer! Cheaper, smaller and portable (great to take to friends houses for dinner etc and we also took it to casual rrestuarants on occasion!). I also wished I didn't get a capsule. It was a pain to get out of the car, it was heavy and I never bothered putting the attachments on my pram to use it 🤦‍♀️ A rearward facing carseat is much more comfy for baby too

I regret buying a big diaper bag that didn’t fit like a backpack and a nursing cover because I ended up never covering up while nursing or just using a swaddle blanket

I agree with so much of this stuff! However, with the change table I actually managed to find one that came with a set of drawers so it didn’t take up any extra space. Clothes were easy to find when dressing my daughter and everything was just in the one place. As she gets older and I’m not changing her anymore I am able to take the top off and just have the set of draws left!

I tried your cornstarch poof trick a while back when you first mentioned it and I was just wondering what you store it in. Do you set it on anything or put it in anything in your diaper bag?

great list! I agree with them all except the nursing bra in part- just for ladies with more to hold-up. I developed mastitis the times I did try to wear my regular bras. Even when I'm not nursing I can never wear a bralet, it gives no support. So I looked for "regular" bras in bigger sizes causing them to be less constricting and bf friendly, paired with nursing tanks for nighttime.

So true! I had 2 nursing bras and several nursing tank tops, the tops were my favorite because i could just lift my t-shirt and not show any skin. Also really enjoyed the tracking app for feeds and sleep, as a first time mom it was reassuring and helped me understand my daughters patterns, but I can see myself not using it with the next one. I wore nursing pads until my daughter was almost 2y old, I leaked so much, lol.

Definitely wouldn't recommend Vaseline, as well. Especially for the nipples where your child inevitably ingests a small amount.

Petroleum based products will actually make your skin dependant on the petroleum. Anything made with natural butters or oils is better.

I regret buying newborn socks. Both of my daughters were always in footie pajamas or swaddled. Plus those little itty bitty socks were always getting lost because the girls kept somehow taking them off

I found it good to have a few for the clothes people bought me that didn't have foot covers but I totally agree! I rarely used socks and don't think I would purchase more than 3 pairs if I bought them myself.

👍🏼 up for this for sure! I do use baby nail clippers still on my 4&7 year old but other then that I don’t think you need anything on your list! I am about to have my 3 baby and need to rebuy things and the list is very limited.

Totally agree, I don't get most of those products for babies or me. I actually didn't even know what a diaper genie before this video. :D I try to be more minimalist so don't own a lot of products :). I don't even have changing pad :) use towel and I do regret buying electric pump. Bought it because everyone was saying that I need one. It was so much work with that pump even to relief in the beginning that I bought manual small pump just in case of relieving from engorgement and loved it (I do have haakaa but it worked only during feedings and not in between). Thank you for your amazing videos!!!

Due Aug.31st with baby #2. I agree with this list completely! In addition to what you mentioned we also wont be buying special baby towels and washcloths. (Okay maybe one cute towel for pictures... maybe) I realize now how completely overboard we went buying things with our first and how quickly he didnt need them anymore.

I use a bigger meshed baby bath seat, that way, if she poops or pees, it goes through the holes and down the drain. She sits in the shower with me while I shower myself. That way, I'm with her and we both get clean. You can find this seat at Target or Amazon.

I agree with most of these. Especially diaper creams! They made my baby’s diaper rashes so much worse. I switched to coconut oil and pampers baby dry diapers and she never got a diaper rash again. One thing my baby needs is the baby nail clippers. Her nails grow so fast. I clip them weekly.

1. For rashes i used Lard and redness got resolved after the first application, my babies skin was already peeling and this worked like magic, never again had a rash. 2. I agree with all of the mentioned above, i also own a diaper genie trash can and it is still in the box, might use it as baby gets older and poop starts to smell, for now we are fine because it does not smell yet. 3. For nipple cream i only needed the small one given by the hospital, if it is not offered ask for it. You wont need other ones or try coconut oil like she said i havent tried it.
