Lawrence is there an inexpensive machine you can recommend to test gold coins/bullion for customers at home? Naturally i wouldn't expect it to give the accuracy of your equipment but if it provided some broad brush reassurance that would be a start. So far I have only bought new 1oz gold Britannias as I don't trust anything second hand.

There are some coins like this sold honestly and cheaply purely as gap fillers,they are what they are but there`s always someone who will try and take advantage.

Gap fillers and toy money are fair enough, and our customers seeemed to only want them checked.

Regarding 3:49. For comparison, the new 2025 Royal Mint Pure Silver Proof Sovereigns have a thickness of 2.56 millimeters, weight of 7.98 grams and a diameter of 22.05 millimeters. The 22 karat gold sovereigns have a thickness of 1.52 millimeters, weight of 7.98 grams and a diameter of 22.05 millimeters.

Not all of the Royal Mint's specifications are accurate, for example, the 20.5 mms diameter in the video, rather than 22.05!

@@lawrencechard5914 don't get me started on "The Royal Mint"! Like me, I think most people make the rookie error of making their first purchase(s) there before realising they get better prices and services from reputable dealers.

@@lawrencechard5914 are you suggesting The Royal Mint lacks competence? I'm sure that will come as a huge surprise to those of us who have been investing in gold for a while!

The "sovereignsauras" channel had a really simple device dedicated to measuring the thickness and weights of sovereigns. It had thickness slots and a mini scale all in one. Simple but effective.
@mint_markАй бұрын
@@XYZ-ef3moThat sounds like an old sovereign balance. When sovereigns were used as money, shops and banks would use those scales to check gold coins... like the way they check bank notes with UV light today.

Dear Lawrence, this might be off topic but could you tell me why are the QEII sovereigns (best value) on the website more expensive than George V, Edward VII or Victoria? I would have thought that more were manufactured over the Queen’s 70 years making them more abundant and therefore less desirable or with less of a premium. I am a novice so would be good to know. Thank You Scott M

Don't forget the old ones were made to be money and the new ones are just for investors and collectors. Also the old ones were made in several mints around the world. You can find the mintage figures online... millions made each year.

@@mint_mark - I assumed (probably incorrectly) that with time there would be fewer old sovereigns in circulation making them more valuable/desirable.

Temu & Aliexpress sell poor copies of most world coins. Dangerous Gold plated one ounce world bullion coins are also available from China at hundreds of pounds not pennies. They will pass on your Nitron XRF machine, luckily will fail on a Sigma Pro. The smallest gold plated tungsten coin I have tested was unbelievably a 1/20 oz Libertad. So you can never be too careful.😂
@lawrencechard5914Ай бұрын
Multiple tests are recommended. The human eye and brain first in most cases, but none are completely infallible.

I thought a "Libertad" was a person Trump disliked. Lucky I only buy 1 oz Britannias. Well, at the start, I did buy a few of the rose gold sovereigns but I didn't like that they're not much bigger than a 1 pence piece. As I'm only interested in gold market fluctuations and not paying VAT/CGT I find buying 1oz Britannia's makes it easy to track my portfolio Vs spot price. I wish I hadn't bought the sovereigns. It could have been worse - I could have bought silver and paid VAT (shudder).

Lawrence I've read both bullish and bearish predictions for the gold market in 2025. What are your predictions for the gold market in 2025? Myself, and i imagine other viewers, are interested in predictions on the future of gold. I understand this would be an opinion and come with a disclaimer.
@lawrencechard5914Ай бұрын
Most of the time, I have no special insight into future Precious Metal prices, which is why I keep quiet about them, unlike some of our competitors who constantly push conspiracy theories about how and why they are going to double, triple, etc. One near certaintly is that with UK inflation rate targeted at 2%, this effectively devalues our currency by 2% per annum compounded, measured against almot anything else including gold.
@XYZ-ef3moАй бұрын
I predicted Trump would win and my Tesla stock would increase due to Trump's relationship with Musk. This turned out to be right and share price went from $213 to $423 (I could have been wrong). When I purchased gold I found the market difficult to research as there are so many wide boys saying gold is the best/only worthwhile investment which is incorrect.

@@XYZ-ef3mo It is possibly the best low risk investment which also gives a positive return, compared with fiat currency.

@@lawrencechard5914 diversity is my strategy. Gold doesn't produce anything like my traditional stocks and ETF's like Vanguard's VUAG and VWRP. However, gold serves its purpose which is why it currently accounts for 3% of my portfolio.
@XYZ-ef3moАй бұрын
@@lawrencechard5914I agree some of your competitors are wide boys. I come from a traditional investment background and understand the markets. Josh Saul from The Pure Gold Company was on the Rob Moore podcast. He made generalisations about the markets which I know are false. Instead of this being a useful podcast about gold investing it was simply a 1 hour advert for gold supported by incorrect market information. I would never buy anything from The Pure Gold Company after seeing that. Characters like Josh mislead inexperienced investors. He's a slick con man.
