We accidentally duplicated the image in the video, rather than using the fake and genuine, the image placed in the video was just of the fake. We have cleared this up on The Silver Forum where you can become a member for free! - It's a great site with a good sense of community. - www.thesilverforum.com/topic/95703-more-fake-gold-coins-an-everyday-occurrence/#findComment-1244592

An FYI, US double eagles do come in different colors, sometimes they are more yellow gold color, sometimes they are much more of the copper color. Even modern buffalo bullion coins can be very different shades one year to another.
@lawrencechard5914Ай бұрын
I have notice that double eagle colours vary, but not greatly. Buffalos should all be identical in colour as they are .9999 gold.
@ah5836Ай бұрын
@@lawrencechard5914 You'd be surprised. I've not seen a definitive explanation why but there are variations. Buffalos are also well known for developing red spots, there is debate whether it's from trace copper or silver, I've not personally seen a spot on any other pure gold coin or bar other than buffalos
@lawrencechard5914Ай бұрын
@@ah5836 "Red spot", probably caused by copper content is quite common on lots of different "fine gold" coins. There is an info page on our website titled "Red Spots on Gold Coins". You should be able to Google it.

Hello I test my gold and silver coins on the Sigma Metalytics. What is your opinion of this instrument?
@lawrencechard5914Ай бұрын
We do use them, and they are quick and easy to use, particularly for checking batches of the same item, but XRF gives an alloy analysis, which I find more useful.

Wouldn't there have been a slight margin of error in the 1800s-1933?
@lawrencechard5914Ай бұрын
Error in what? Gold assaying was still very accurate. Why pick 1933? 😎
@michaelmohrle1773Ай бұрын
@@lawrencechard5914 Because those are the coins he's showing and testing pre-33 gold coins. Maybe very accurate but not 100%, I would think. Why can't fakers make the correct 90%-10% then with a tester like this?

So did you actually give just the gold price to the customers? Or have you just borrowed the coins for the video? And... I suppose if they have had the coins a good while and still got gold price for them, then it's not a bad outcome for having a fake. A lot better than a fake that is just plated!

Thanks for the comment, I think you're referring to the previous video where Lawrence mentions that we're going to look at a fake 1904 Double Eagle, in which we show the image of the coin. The coin Lawrence referred to briefly in our previous video, was the coin we used in this video! Hence the duplication of the same image, I hope this clears things up.
