I grew up in Gatlinburg and went to high school there during the late 1960’s. Such a wonderland of natural beauty. Me and several buddies hiked to Mt. LeConte during the fall on numerous occasions. We would work at the lodge on Saturday and Sunday, washing dishes, making up rooms, etc. for our lodging and meals. Just to be in the natural beauty made it worth the strenuous hike. I’ll never forget the sunrise over the cliff tops. I also took folks on horseback up to the lodge as a mountain guide during high school. One day we got a late start for a round trip and it was pitch dark about halfway back to the barn. I simply gave my horse his head and he got us home. I’m very familiar with all these spots mentioned and recommend you go visit if you can. Much different nowadays with tones of commercial development in Gatlinburg which for me ruins it but I understand, it’s the tourist business.

I have been going there for over 40 years. Great video. Look forward to checking other videos of specific hikes. Almost too old to do them any more. It will be great to join you on your hikes. Alum cave trip brings back memories. In 1995 my car almost got broken into at that hikes parking area. We got back from hike just in time to scare off the thieves. They tore up all 4 corners of the trunk and the lock mech and tail lights of my Taurus and were only seconds away from gaining access to the trunk.

Well done. I passed through the Smokies on my AT thru hike. I headed southbound through the park but got off trail for a trip to Gatlinburg. I spent my birthday in town. I'll be heading back up there this month to have a regular tourist trip with my wife. Thanks for outlining some stops for us to think about.

I love the Smokies so much. We take a yearly trip to Maggie Valley, NC (about 15 miles from Cherokee) and the beauty of the mountains still amazes me every time. The Rockies are unparalleled in height and scale, but I’d prefer the lush Appalachians any day.

@@CampTravelExplore We are going there 9/7/22 for 7 days. We will be renting a place. I am wondering if its a good idea to rent one cabin for 7 days or to find two different areas in differing parts. Is Blue Ridge, Ga to far to see Nantahla, GSM, and other must see places? Im thinking Cherokee or Sylva might be better but its really confusing. We will stop at Gatlinburg but wont stay long. More into the beauty/serenity of the GSM.

I am always amazed at the amount of water that continues to cascade off of the mountains, down the falls and to the creeks and rivers. I agree that the Rocky Fork Nature Trail is the very best next to Cades Cove.

Thank you for your video that showed so much of the Park. So many other videos of this type spend so much time depicting the person(s) doing the filming that the actual subjects of the video seem secondary. We have visited GSMNP many times, but you did mention a couple of sites we have never visited. On your next trip there, you should consider visiting the Elkmont “ghost town”, which has a fascinating history.
