You give good advice. I was in a famous French department store in a crowded elevator and an older gentleman got in with a knapsack that was open, which I thought was strange but didn't really focus on it until I saw him repeatedly moving around in the elevator. He made one young woman so uncomfortable, she got off. He then got right next to a young couple with a Chanel shopping 🛍 bag and slowly started bending sideways towards the shopping bag to steal something. I was behind all of them and just reacted (not snart) and grabbed the man's arm and told the couple he was about to steal from them. The man started yelling at me in French and the couple thanked me.

Bonjour Janice, This video on safety tips is so very helpful and direct. Very good. I just wanted to add one more tip, especially if your are visiting along the Seine or up in Montmartre. There are many cute trams powered by bicycles. They offer rides and your feet are Soo weary. Be Aware! Even when you ask what their price is and they say 20-40€ that’s only half the price. After your ride the price will be double even if they assured you it was only the one price. Price is always double what they quoted you. Don’t be scammed. We were unaware of this particular scam and were so very weary in the moment. Just be aware before you get in the trolley of the price you will be paying . Thank You Janice so very much for sharing all aspects of your wonderful adventure.

Confirm the price before accepting the ride. Refuse to pay, if they increase it. Say you're now calling the Police, and get onto your phone. Pay the original ,quoted price. Say it's this or nothing. Then walk away. The driver will make a scene, but is hardly likely to call the Police himself ! ( I don't live in Paris, but France)

Thanks for the great tips to stay safe .When we visited Paris, I sewed pockets on the inside of our pants . We had to reach in the top of our pants . Very hard to get things out of , but that was the point . Your right Janice , when we were in Paris there were lots of pick pockets and gypsies with surveys . It's a little scary because your in a foreign country and don't know how things work . We did have a wonderful time and survived without any problems .

Very apt--thanks for sharing. The touristy areas, train stations, metro, around the airport really are the worst, even around the turn-styles going to the airport. You do not want to look like a tourist either. Also be careful wearing a backpack style purse.

This is a great list of things to be wary of. And everything you’re warning about is true when traveling anywhere. The item I’m most protective of is my passport. The only thing I would add to your list is be especially cautious when coming out of a place where currency is exchanged. The tip I give my friends is to not carry a designer handbag; a pickpocket will not want it as bad. Bon voyage!

Hi, dear Janice. Can't find everything in order to.post at the right time, but here goes: so excited to tell you I heard now for the first time from my American-gal acquaintance in Paris: met her here briefly in Arizona 4 months ago : she was presenting re her life as a missionary in Paris; she's young, I was pumped (at my age! 81!)up, and soon after I sent her some of my art work to Paris, tho my Church here would not consider me as working for them... I tried selling myself to Kathy with art she could maybe use there in Paris (my art is kind of conceptual sometimes)... now she's saying maybe i could join her team! (Whatever!) Love you, thinking of you so often, it's me Paula (presently undergoing demolition from hailstorm at this Mexican border! At age 81!)

Hi Janice. I really enjoy your videos and commentaries. My husband and I will be moving to France next year. At the moment, we are torn on whether to settle in coastal Normandy or near Fontainebleau. My question is why did you specifically select Fontainebleau, and not one of the surrounding towns, such as Melun, Avon, or Moret sur Loing? Does it feel safer, cleaner, or more appealing in some way? Your opinion would be appreciated. To help us make an informed decision, we have spent the entire month of April in Normandy, and will spend all of May in Fontainebleau. Our hope is that we will have a better feeling about each of these areas, after spending a good chunk of time in each. Thank you for your response and help.

Hi Ms Janice, thank you so much for a very informative video. Just want to know if the metro still open around 11pm? As i will be arriving at paris orly around 10.30pm? Not a bad restaurant in France ? You're kidding! Lots of bad restaurants. Actually, it is very hard to find a good restaurant nowadays. You have to read tones of guide books and listen to France-Culture and France-inter cuisine programs. C'est meilleur quand c'est bon with Emmanuelle Jary is also interesting.
@JaniceInFrance
@JaniceInFrance Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your comment but as I’ve always said to everyone, my experience is all I can give you any of my experience. I have never had a bad restaurant now you can go to all the reviews and etc. etc. and they can give you what they want but in my opinion, I have never had a bad restaurant and that’s all I can go by.
@alkante2962
@alkante2962 Жыл бұрын
@@JaniceInFrance The average quality at best, the sauces in powder, the non organic products, the common species presented as gastronomic while you can cook them better at home on a short budget, the mixes not gastronomic at all, the products right out of the freezer instead of being fresh, the products out of their season of production, standardized vegetables and fruits, etc. All practices used commonly on the largest scale. To find a true authentic restaurant, you have to wake up early!!
@jacqueline8559

@@alkante2962 I live in France and , even in the smallest family Bistro, in the smallest Town, we have found only great food, both in taste and presentation. Food has only been fresh and seasonal. Also, with weekly shopping, we find great quality .So long as we shop in Farmers markets, which are better than Supermarkets .After 12 years here, we've experienced only 1 poor Restaurant. I'm sure that, in any City, there are good and bad Restaurants. The ones, frequented by locals, are cheaper and better. Touristy places are more likely to be very expensive and of lesser quality. If you hate Parisian food so much, don't go!! If you're American , what do YOU know about good food?? 😂😂😂
