This is NOT a video for how to hide your curves or how to create curves that aren't there, but rather accommodate you ladies who struggle to find jeans that fit your waist and your butt!

Being a romantic, I find it really difficult zo dress well for my body without looking too inappropriate. My family is really religious and showing skin is looked down upon..also I feel like some women appear distant and hateful whenever I do dress in a way that is flattering to my curves, making me just want to hide. Anyone else?

Literally! I could wear the exact same outfit my friends are wearing, but am seen as inappropriate or am doing too much & i am the one who's seen as a h*e , or am asking for it , simply bc i have a curvier body. But if i put on baggy clothes or anything that doesn't flatter my body , ppl say that i never put any type of effort in my outfits🤨. It's literally exhausting 😭. Oh & what said about women are being distant & hateful, I've experienced it too! Girl , it's pure jealousy! Our body type is seen as the ideal body type by men , with result of women being jealous & hateful , cause u attract all the mens attention without even trying/wanting too.

I am soft dramatic and people tend to think that I am not nice because how I look and get surprised when they talk to me. I have heard many times things like "look!" "You're nice" "you are intimidating"... 😅 I have learned to have fun with those reactions and to ignore if other girls look at me like you said, I recommend you to do the same, you just look for clothes that you like and feel comfortable with, the rest doesn't matter.

I absolutely adore this. 😍 As a short, small chested hourglass (not a true pear, as my shoulders balance my hips) I have always seen fashion advice that tells me how to de-emphasize my hips. There is usually no respect given to individual body types and everyone is instead told how to appear long, lean, and straight. I have always ignored that advice and dressed in the form fitting clothing that flatters my own shape.

@user-rx7uh9mg4f

I feel your struggle. I've found that long blazers along with tight pants or top help. The blazer covers my thighs and the tight fitting cloths underneath don't make me look over weight. If I want to go for an even more modest look, I'll pair: blazer + loose top + tight pants OR blazer + tight top + loose pants. Midi a-line skirts look flattering and can cover up curves as well (make sure the material is thin so it doesn't look bulky).

I feel like a very important caveat to this video is that these rules only apply to hourglass women who want to show off their curves. As someone who prefers a more masculine/androgynous look, I want to look more straight and angular so I often follow the opposite if these style “rules”

i’m 5’9 and SUPER curvy (my waist and hips have a 17” difference) and i’ve come to find that low or mid rise jeans actually show off my curves way better (and are easier to fit lol) !! i used to wonder why i looked so square/boxy in clothes even tho i have such intense curves, but then i realized that my jeans going all the way up to my natural waist didn’t accentuate it at all and instead made it look bigger by accentuating my ribcage instead. i’d say definitely try as many jeans styles as u can!! for me, a low rise boot cut balances out and accentuates my hips amazingly and a mid rise straight leg/sturdier jean gives a more relaxed look while still making my waist look as small as it is. finding the perfect top length:pants rise ratio for ur proportions is life changing
@CamilaVanilla
@CamilaVanilla 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly - high rise creates a line exactly where there shouldn't be a line. Lines create width. I have never understood why hourglass guides always claim high rise is the most flattering. Also, if you look at outfits with low rise jeans, you'll see the outfits show off the curves more (assuming the top is fitted). Keeping the same color throughout the abdomen lets the eyes notice the curves of the waist easier.
@sodamkim749

Thoroughly agreed with the low rise jeans! Although most of my jeans are either high rise or mid rise since they are more popular and easier to find these days, I feel like low rise jeans with a cropped top that shows off the waist works perfect for me 🤩

@@julieme7927 most of my height is in my torso, my legs are fairly short (they are about average length, so a bit short for my height). i’ve noticed i have to size up a lot in low rise jeans for the proper fit since they tend to be designed for straighter hips and butt (i’m an 8 in high rise jeans and a 12 in low rise) but since i don’t mind the number it’s worth it to me! maybe try sizing up a bit if u like the style. if u don’t, ignore me of course lol

This is super informative - you can see how the more boxy items make you look younger/almost awkward because they are too overpowering. The rounded shapes meanwhile make you look elegant, polished, and mature. Still youthful obviously, but with a greater shine.

This was really helpful! I love how comfortable looser clothes can be, but as a soft dramatic I usually feel sloppy in them. I do struggle with finding casual clothes that fit my body type. I would look out of place wearing trousers and a blazer at my workplace, but a t-shirt and leggings feels too casual and doesn't flatter me very well. I'd love some advice for this struggle of wanting to feel put together but not over dressed :) thanks!!

I am soft dramatic too and I like to wear looser clothes with a cinched waist. High waisted skirts, mom jeans wide leg or boot cut jeans with a shirt or blouse tucked in work really well, as well as loose dresses with a belted or cinched waist. I also like lightweight, colourful harem pants and palazzo pants with a high waist for when it's hot. For tops, flowy blouses, wrap tops and peplum tops work great but t-shirts with slightly lower necklines and soft flowy fabric work well too. I think looser are totally fine on soft dramatics as long as you define the waist and keep the fabrics flowy and soft. My absolute go to is a high waisted pair of pants and a soft sweater or blouse tucked in

My casual go to as a soft dramatic is a large baggy tee that is down to my ass, and leggings. Sometimes I’ll knot the shirt on the side. But I make sure the shirt is long bc it shows off our lines. Should be to your thighs. The crop tee and leggings thing is not for us !

Very helpful video, but if I may add a suggestion, a lot of hourglass women tend to have tummies, have big thighs and big boobs etc. We know we look good when we're dressing fancy, however It makes it harder to dress in a more flattering (and 'appropriate') way for multiple scenarios - casual, business etc. A vid on that would be really helpful, and if possible it would be good to see it on a model who has a heavier frame, although as you said romantic type is not weight specific

Yes! But the unique thing about the kibbe theory is that the looks that look contemporary on her may look effortless chic on a flamboyant natural for example. It’s not really “wrong Vs right” but more so the effect that an outfit gives YOU based on what YOU look like. This can help figure out how to intentionally dress to pull off a vibe - the ones that are flattering on her in this video seem to be because she wants to have a feminine vibe by showing off her soft curves 😊

@@danyg1400 I’m not saying it’s the same as fat, I know some people do that, but what I mean is she doesn’t really have to accommodate curve. She can wear any top even without a bra because her breast are not that big. She can wear any skirt cause her butt isn’t big enough that it would make the skirt dangerous to wear. Her thighs are not that thick that she couldn’t wear a short dress without it riding up. Those are the things that to me mean to be curvy. She has a bit of something something but it isn’t really a thing she has to keep in mind when choosing clothes or defining her style. For example a very curvy girl has to consider that if she wears a certain top it will look way too sexy when she isn’t trying to. This isn’t really the case here. Hope I cleared that up.

I know this isn't what your video is about but I've never, not once, really wanted to empashize my curves, No deep meaning or reason but I just love oversize things. Are they the things that make me look the thinnest? Nope but I have a rule of thumb with clothes... if I put them on and I love the way I feel and look in it enough to do a little dance? That's what I am wearing and not once has that involved 'showing off my curves' which I feel is just such a HARD FAST rulñe for curvy women. In the end you're going to shine most in whatever feels good to you.

i actually think low rise works better than high rise for an hourglass body, make sure it’s actually low rise and not mid rise because otherwise it looks awkward and pair it with a long tight top and it reallllly accommodates the hourglass shape, with high rise it often makes you look boxy as the waist looks the same width as the hips but low rise really shows the difference between the waist and hips especially with a tight top that’s long and really shows the smaller waist!!

Thank you so much for your videos, I'm learning a lot and now I know why I've always hated how my style looks on me I'm a theatrical romantic true summer who LOVES edgy and angular clothes and autumn colours (lucky me, I guess), so now I'm trying to find a balance between my taste and what nature gave me Being more educated on the subject really helps, thank you!

because i am fairly big chested for my frame (cc/d and 4'10) and my shoulders and hips are the same exact width, i always find it super hard not to look boxy whenever i wear not slim fitting clothes and it looks like i don't have waist definition when i actually do. i think i'm a romantic and most of your tips could work for me. thank you!!!

Thanks for mentioning the neckline. Deep Vs work really well on me, as I think they do most hourglass body types. They also seem to de-emphasize an aging neckline as the eye is drawn to the V not to the neck. I can't do the ruffles and puffed sleeves but they look lovely on Ellie-Jean...I will probably never fully understand the Kibbe system but I think the Introduction to Kibbe body type system article I found online is easier to understand than the actual test which can also be found online.

I'm a classic kibbe with romantic essence and this video is probably the most helpful thing ever happen to me. Because i don't look good in sleek classic and minimal clothes. I need some prints, textures, sexiness and softness. But on the other hand I am not a soft classic nor romantic or theatrical romantic which driven me crazy. So it turned out i have romantic essence. NOW I'TS TIME FOR SHOPPING I'M SO HAPPY !! :)))

I'm very hourglassy (idk my kibbe type but think long limbs and broad shoulders with DD cups and an ass to match) and my main struggle is professional/work dressing. I either look too frumpy or end up veering into too sexy, which is a struggle especially as I still sometimes pass as a teenager! If you haven't already a video on non-sexy options for gals with T and A that would be amazing.

I feel your pain! What I find works best is fit and flare styles. It doesn't have to flare too much but a soft fabric for a skirt that flows through the hips (vs pencil skirts) works well. V necks that aren't too low. For pants flared trousers work better than skinny styles. I also find fabric types helps with sexy vs professional too. Lace or sheer fabrics will lean sexy, and cotton/linen will be more professional.

What about simple and modest pieces with softer fabric types that are form-fitting in just the right amount without clinging to the body? Dear Peachie has this really great video about masculine and feminine aesthetics and what specific elements you can manipulate to lean more towards one direction or the other, so I'm thinking of trying to soften the look in a more subdued way and using the elements that lean the least directly towards sexiness. Subdued flower prints, maybe? Especially smaller patterns, I think, but not too small so you don't look too young. Lighter tones rather than dark. Just trying to share what works for me in a similar situation, except I'm also petite, so I really do understand the underage looking face concern hahah. :)

Thank you, Body and Style! This was a great video for me as a dramatic classic, even though you emphasized more yin types. I am slightly tall (5’7”) and on the slim side (American size 2 or 4, depending on the brand/cut), but I still have an hourglass shape (36-27-37). I have known since I was a teenager that I CANNOT wear baggy/boxy clothes. I need a fitted top and/or waist emphasis. Other than that, I struggled well into adulthood to dress my body. My mother is a petite, cute gamine with a very youthful gamine essence (think Twiggy). As with many daughters, I grew up emulating her style, and I looked awkward and terrible. Learning about my proportions and sharp/soft balance with the Kibbe body typing, and now learning more about my essence (classic mixed with ethereal) from this KZbin channel, have really helped me understand and accept myself the way that God made me. It’s a cliche, but we all truly are beautiful in our own way.
