"Swallow, my friend, you're my only hope." I wholeheartedly agree that that line was indeed deliberate! Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) as Thumbelina, and William Katt (the guy who could've been Luke Skywalker) as the Flower Prince. The more you know. ;)

This is a good version of Thumbelina, and the cartoon version is just as good.

It was simply serendipitous that Carrie was cast as Thumbelina and it wouldn't surprise me if this was Debbie's most favorite work of her daughter's. Carrie's "Home in the Meadow" was a beautifully touching moment. Together forever.🤍

This is a Hans Christian Anderson tale. Thumbelina experiences about a dozen little adventures before the end. Not that you're probably interested, but the very end of the fairy tale tells you where the story came from; the swallow had a nest in Winter, where he finally took Thumbelina, and one up north - in Denmark, on the window sill of an old man's cottage; it was there the swallow would sing for him. And is how the story came to be, and passed along for many many generations. I thought it was pretty cool.

Heartening you've read it. It's beautiful; far lovelier than what is too often commonly depicted or portrayed. The child goes through adventures that would challenge the 💞💖💞 of any romantic fantasy adventure. And yes, to be sure, the swan and 'his' story never really gets his due. Wonderful to meet another lover of old European folklore.

I love this one! We had a version of it on a "laser disk", which was like a giant record-size CD. I loved the song she sings, and played it over and over. I always assumed it was an old folk song, but the credits here say music was composed by Robert Folk. So pretty. :)
