I love the yellow/orange border you put on your view. Helps us understand the kinds of things to watch out for

1. Look where you want to go. 2. Ride more defensively than you drive; you are smaller. 3. Adjust mirrors before riding 4. Do a quick preride inspection. 5. Know your fuel capacity. 6. Motorcycle parts can burn. 7. Get gear. 8. Dress in layers. 9. Pick shoes or boots with good traction. 10. Know local motorcycle laws. 11. Double check tire pressure.

Just passed my motorcycle balance test 2 days ago in Nova Scotia, Canada. Yahoo. Going for my first legal ride today. Thanks to Dan Dan the Fireman I've learned a lot over the last year or so. It's going to be a beautiful day here , 31 degrees C or approx 90 degrees F. Have a great day guys,

Regarding the kickstand thing: Also check that the pavement is nice and even and doesn't have significant low or weak places. (lesson hard learned)

About hot surfaces on your bike. Be very alert to children when you pull up any where there may be children. On several occasions I've had little ones come running toward me because their excited to se uncle Jerry or more likely a real motorcycle. They want to touch it and climb on it. The first time this happened, I barely caught them in time to keep them from touching the exhaust. He had on shorts and a tee shirt. For those who say, "where were the kids parents?" Try keeping your little one from running with 20 of their cousins they've been playing with, at the family reunion, when a big loud motorcycle pulls up and you're 20 yards away catching up with kin.

I'd love a follow on video for riders in that second 1,000 miles. I've heard that Dunning Kruger is particularly bad at this time and it's also the time most motorcyclists crash as they are getting more comfortable. 👍

Dan, I have been looking for a video that explains intersections specifically 4 ways, 3 ways during group riding etc. What are the exact laws on rolling away from a 4 way intersection? I've heard that bikes pull up together, but leave in the staggered formation; can you please elaborate this for group rides? Thanks.

A lot of this is covered in the MSF, imo everyone should consider taking the MSF even if their state doesn't require it. Not only do you get some of this info but also you get hands on experience practicing it with a teacher instead of having to learn it yourself out on the road. I don't know if all of them do it but mine even had us do a quick bike check every time we came back from a break so it really drilled in that habit, which sticks pretty darn well if it's the first experience with a bike.

Man, I seriously, seriously, covet these loooong, open, stretches of road you have there in AZ! Although I can’t complain too much about the diversity of riding conditions we enjoy here in NE Oklahoma. Except for seriously reckless and unsafe drivers and way too many orange cones everywhere I go!!! And toll roads abound!
