I agree completely! From my experience it’s been instinctual. Not saying it’s not something that can be explained or pointers can’t be given but even when I began driving it was just something I just noticed. I’ve just become overly aware to my surroundings since I started riding.

I don't think a whole video should be dedicated to it. Just gotta look at the tires and be mindful of traffic. If your lane is clear and you have a car next to you, you should expect they're gonna wanna change lanes.

As someone who just started taking motorcycle lessons I am a bit scared to ride in traffic even though I've been driving cars for 10 years. The biggest fear I think we have as riders are cars. So watching someone ride and explain things as they go really helps with anxiety. Thank you!

6:10 I *highly* recommend staying in gear and using the clutch and front brake (for stopping, hold rear brake when stopped) as he said after this. If something happens and you need to get out of the way immediately, it could be the literal difference between life and death.

The instructor while taking riding lessons in traffic for my motorcycle license said ''at a red light always put the bike in neutral'', I said to myself wth is he talking about , so the only time I did that was to obtain my license , also always keep looking behind you especially at a light right after a corner or if you have to stop for an obstacle, a light for road workers etc , always in gear ready to go and have eyes everywhere especially behind you I'd say , (sorry for my half English )

One tip i heard that i liked was always stopping at the far left or far right side of your lane rather than directly in the center. Even if you're at a stoplight, no cars in front of you it still gives you room to potentially move if you see it in time, but it also means you will go more to the side and not just straight out into an intersection or someth

Just do not be like most of the imbeciles that think they can learn how to to "performance" ride on the street. Stay well within your current level comfort zone on the street. If you want to push or stretch that comfort zone out more, go do track days. Your life span as a rider depends on this philosophy.

For the first tip regarding blinking your brake light, you can purchase a 'Brake Light Modulator' that will flash automatically when you apply the brakes. I just added this to my bike about a month ago and it's great. Best $10 i've spent on it so far. Highly recommend. They come in all kinds of options (fast blink, slow blink, blink 3 times fast, then slow, etc etc.) Mine flashes everytime I apply the brakes, it will flash 3x fast, 3x slow, then solid. Quite easy to install as well, coming from someone with little to no electrical experience. All you need to do is find your brake light wire and your ground wire, cut them, and tap the device into the lines.

I watched this out of curiosity. I been on bikes for 22 years, and it NEVER hurts to refresh yourself. New rider or a seasoned veteran, everyone could use a refresher course, might even learn a new skill. I noticed, you ride exactly like I do. Yeah sometimes I get a little wild, but as my dad said “You have to get the big picture when driving and riding.” Best thing he ever taught me. And what he meant by that, ALWAYS look/watch ahead, behind, to your right and left, notice everything. Awesome video, super helpful.

To understand counter steering that helped me: when you lean, your front tire is also gonna turn that way, so the reason you have to PUSH because you’re pushing your tire to be straight, and the lean and slight turn is turning your bike. Hope that makes sense! 😁

Pedestrians that cross when ever they want are a pet peeve. I found a great solution, I bought boat hand held fog horn ,so when they just walk out and MAKE you stop, I remind them that they don’t have a green or go light to which I normally get the finger, I then hit my fog horn just as they get last me. Do NOT do this if they’re still in front of you because they may come at you, but if they’re already past you can hit the horn and take off while laughing.

Hey man I absolutely love your videos, well done.. just a couple of points I would add, wearing high visibility gear always helps with being seen.. non biker car drivers usually drive with no thought of what bikers have to go through on each journey, so we do what we can to protect ourselves at all times. The follow distancing that I was taught works out to 'the 2 second rule'.. I simply repeated in my head "only a fool breaks the 2 second rule". Repeating that mantra when I first started to ride really helped me to gauge and monitor my distance. I basically use a reference point such as a lamppost or a highway sign, tree etc. and count 2 seconds when the vehicle in front has passed to when you pass.. simple really.

11:28 When you crossed that crack in the road with one hand on the bars I had to stop the video and comment about that - those can really mess you up if you are looking over your left shoulder at traffic, one hand on the bars, then cross that crack at an angle, it can grab your front wheel and depending how deep it is, it can lead to a crash.

Chase, you can choose to be more purposeful with a lot of that advice. The lane position is important. So at 14:19, choose to hug the right tyre track. Etc. And 13:40 I’d really emphasise that point that you want a gap alongside you always. Never ride beside something - pass it as you were doing - but if your way is blocked, hang back. You’re riding close = trust. (lol edit: you got there at 16min) Taking the lane stance further (and flipping it over from a UK stance), I’d agree you don’t want dead centre, but there’s nothing wrong sitting just left of that dead centre. This way, you should be more visible to cars emerging from side roads on the right (the least visibility); and you can drift out to the white line if you want to ensure a car is getting to see you. Then, beyond these styles, the extra tip is to assume they’ve still not seen you - exit plan (as you say later) is very important. Also on the highway, if you kept right towards the solid line (or extreme right) some stupid cars will try and pass you within lane, hence just off centre in the tyre track seen as better. Rural roads are very different. We are thought to maximise view. Imagine taking the racing line, but keep to the outside of a bend until you can see up the straight and then apex very late. You probably don’t get it in the states, but if you can get an electronic copy, there’s a book here called Road Craft (I think) giving all these tips. Seems robotic at first but you soon learn to make it flow and flex. What you’re doing with these videos is really well intentioned and could be very handy for those that have never thought about it or are new.

Awesome channel, glad I found it. I particularly enjoy that you’re not cussing and swearing, especially at dumb drivers. Not only does it make watching the video more enjoyable to watch, it makes me feel I’m in the company of a very professional instructor, instead of just some bro that was looking for a crowd to impress.

This is a great series, I've just got my license through the MSF course (highly recommend) and I'll say that the info in thr videos is very helpful even after you've been riding a bit. Chase, thank you for the great videos. I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about wind from other vehicals or on the highway how it effects you. It's easily the biggest thing I've noticed while on the bike

O.C. Love the tips on feathering the clutch in from the last video! I'm a late starter, brother had a bike when he was in college and took me for a ride and it scared the piss out of me but now over 40, I am drawn to riding. Always respect bikers when I see them and hope this is the year I can pull the trigger on getting a bike! Thanks for all the videos, they make me want to find a way to make it happen faster!

im 29 and just started riding about a month ago. I wanted a 600cc bike but after taking the course to get my license i went with the 400cc because there is enough power there for anything youd want to do (wheelies, burnouts). The 400cc is still a bit more powerful then i am comfortable with at times but everyone has a different comfort zone. Id take a motorcycle saftey course bc insurance is cheaper and you dont have to do to the dmv to get your tests done as most of them are partnered with them. Good luck out there!

ive been riding dirtbikes since i was 13 so my opinion is biased but i wuld go with a 600 off the start just cuz i know in 6 months to a year you are going to want an upgrade its not as big as you think but the 300-400 will lack power one you become a bit more advanced on high way riding just my .02 cents

Broooo so when I bought my 2019 Yamaha R1, Raven Red I drove on stop and go traffic. It sucked bro. It was a new bike, wasn’t even comfortable with it yet. But I only died out 1 time leaving the dealership stall but made it home. When the road was clear it was amazing and fell in love with my R1 ❤

Great video, but I do have a question. Why do you put the bike in neutral at a stop light? You position yourself well, but if a car comes up behind you who is not paying attention, you have no ability to escape. I was taught to always return to first gear with clutch disengaged so that I can take defensive action to avoid getting rear ended. Just looking for your thought process here.

Motorcycle brains are a weird mix of chaos and focus. Thanks to the black truck for providing a great real-life example of how to spot someone to steer clear of. It might seem overwhelming at first for newer riders but it will become second nature (and a sport!) to predict manouvres before they seem to happen. There are so many signals drivers are giving off without them knowing it's really useful to start to look at traffic this way. Ride safe!

I rode my first bike back home. I had no choice because my girlfriends father was with me helping with the papers. I didn't want to look like a dumbass in front of him. When I got my motorcycle her father said "Alright lets go" without giving me any time to collect myself. That's the story of how a nervous young lad rode in a busy road in hopes of appealing to his future father-in-law.

As a new rider who recently got a license, it really doesn't happen. You are using so many senses while riding that it's hard to be that zoned out. I've been licensed about a month now and most stuff is pretty easy once you adjust to it, but the thing I've noticed the most is how the wind effects me while I ride.

Great Video for New Riders and those Who LoVE to RiDe. I started in 2010 & did a deep dive to Learn the #1 Cause of Mbike & Car Collisions. Car Drivers/Cagers said I NeVeR SAW Him. My Ultimate Bike/wardrobe fantasy was a BLACK Bike, BLACK Helmet, BLACK Jacket, Black Gloves and BLACK Boots...I was gonna be Johnny Cash, Man in Black - King of the Road. But Guess What? though - I became a Ninja..Hard to see during the day at Times (especially in shadows) and Invisible at Night. So, with this knowledge. I became a "Power Ranger" or rather a GP Racer. I'm a peacock, not by choice, but by necessity; Cause I'm still Johnny Cash at heart. I got a 07 Suz 750 Gixxr (Blue/Black Fairing w. red reflective tape on the rims & flashing brake lights - she is pretty) I wear a bright yellow vest w. reflective tape, and the Cagers -SEE Me coming and give Me a Bubble. I flash people the PeaCe sign, to say "Hello" when they give me space. Dont be a Hater and flash the finger or worse Smash'n side mirrors -when people don't see you. Remember Your profile is small and usually we are moving Fast. I Always Assume People Don't See Me and I ride accordingly. Be Safe and Enjoy the Ride. PEACE to You all kindred Spirits of that winding road.
