Safety - I spent 3 months in the Philippines and the only place where I ever felt unsafe was in Ermita in Manila. However, there are lots of places where where they have full time open carry armed guards even in places like McDonalds in Ermita and EDSA. Also, all around the Mall of Asia and in Makati I was amazed by the number of armed guards. There are many, many shops, hotels, storage facilities etc. in these areas with armed guards around the clock. I made the mistake of dropping my phone in Angeles on Fields Ave and it vanished almost instantly and went offline. I agree the Philippines seems quite safe, but I feel much safer in Bangkok.
@prepperjonpnw648210 ай бұрын
So you dropped your phone in an area known for prostitution etc and it disappeared instantly 😂. At least it’s not as bad as some cities in the U.S. 😮 Like San Francisco where the streets are covered in human excrement and used needles 💉 And people walk into a Walgreens with a big garbage bag, fill it and walk out 😮 Or South Chicago where it’s like a war zone 😮

The armed guards are pretty useless IMO. They're only good for opening doors and maybe detering petty theft. When it comes to deterring violent crime -- whether it's committed by state actors or other criminals -- they're completely useless. For example, search for video footage of Allan Lumbres Fajardo's kidnapping at Seda Hotel in Nuvali (an upscale area).

I live in Angeles. I love it here. I'm not a Fields Ave bar guy, even though I go a few times per year. The thing I like most about Pampanga is it's proximity to everything else. Manila under two hours. Baguio is about two hours. Subic Bay is under an hour. Locally there are plenty of hobby activities. Golfing, motor sports (track and off-road), several scenic tours. My favorite part of living here is the food. It's definitely the food capital of the country. You could go to a new restaurant every week and probably take a few years to hit every joint.

I've never had a problem, but I've witnessed violent crime (yes, even murder), extreme injustice (a team of PNP officers illegally abducted my previous neighbors and then framed the father with shabu), and all sorts of shit. Theft is common, and unfortunately, a female I know was recently raped around here. Generally speaking, I feel safe, but I feel just as safe (maybe safer) back in my US suburb.

Yes there’s a relatively rich middle class . A few things 1 there’s very little regulation of work place pay and conditions so that creates a huge underclass . Where the middle class in a western country could comprise 20 or 30 percent or more of the population the percentage of middle class is much smaller . USA has headed down that path in the last 50 years. Countries like Australia Sweden Denmark etc structure taxes and labour regulations to spread the wealth . That social cultural thing of taking care of family actually drags a lot of poor people back into the bucket of poverty where as the wealth of middle class isn’t taxed to pay social security and as you know money makes money so that class is self sustaining.

I feel safer back in the States. Violent crime happens both here and there, but it's only here in the Filthyppines that I've **personallly** witnessed violent crime including murder. Theft and rape are common, and extreme corruption adds a layer of danger that I/we don't have to worry about back home. If someone wants to have you thrown in a filthy shithole of a prison for years on end before a trial is even granted (not that it would help), they can easily make it happen. Not very long ago, a team of PNP officers illegally abducted my previous neighbors and subsequently framed the father with shabu (methamphetamine). The corrupt city prosecutor sided with the pulis even though CCTV footage clearly showed they were lying. The guy is still rotting away in jail and his daughter is traumatized from the illegal abduction That type of injustice happens often around here. It isn't rare.

Let’s be clear, the locals DO NOT like the long lines. I have witness locals skip line more times than I can count, I stand there and watch their frustrations many times. They are humans and have human emotions just like humans from any other Country. This notion that the Filipino people are the most patient people on earth is funny when I hear it. These people actually care about their time more than most other countries. The man needs to be in the field producing, the wife has chores to do, etc…they surely don’t need to spend half a day waiting in line, and they 100% don’t like it.

@DeltaDawg They are humans and are smart enough to look at the size of the line or lines when they go into a store and decide if they have the time to wait, or they do not go in the store and go somewhere else. Common sense.....you don't do that?

ALL third world countries are heavily family oriented (no leaving the nest) as the family is their insurance and backup. Every single poor country, without fail. First world the gov is your insurance and backup. Not so on the edge of potential hunger.

US has a gauntlet of paper work, vetting, and waiting, you have to run to get anything even resembling help. You might freeze on the sidewalk first.

Cool vid. I’m surprised about the shocks. Are you sure you need them? I’d think maybe heavy people would be more likely to need them. Ride safe! Get an extra helmet that you can lock on the outside of the bike so that it doesn’t use any storage space.

Great video, Scotty! I’m moving to the Phils in March. I eat healthy. You made me nervous. Don’t they have healthy no sugar options? Protein bars and things along those lines? Or should I fill another suitcase with stuff like that?
@kingbee939910 ай бұрын
No, they have very little options here. You can find a health food store at some malls, but it is expensive. Very.

No protein bars at 7-11 here, only at specialty health food stores in big cities.

Nice vid Scott. Will be very interesting when you get to travel on the bike! I hope you keep us posted during those times about how safe or unsafe you find traveling that way is, as far as road conditions etc, as well as how receptive the babes are in provinces 😊

To comment on #11 they don't care. Had the same thing happen when in immigration office Calbayog, they act as if professional though when to pay my visa ext they cannot provide my change. I'm having to go out and break some bill in order to get back what I'm owed. Yeah right!

Scotty when you rent these hotel rooms on your trips. Do these hotels require a credit card or do they just require cash?
