Another mistake I’ve seen when traveling with friends is eating at chain restaurants they are familiar with in different countries rather than trying the local cuisine. This one breaks my heart!

Agreed! Especially when you are only at a destination for a few days. However, if we're at a destination for a week or more we are guilty at eating at a chain restaurant as well for the variety. Now, that we've been out of the US for a year, a chain restaurant is a real treat for us actually.

This is a great video! I have the Fidelity debit card, which does the same thing as the Schwab card, and it has saved me lots of fees! I especially love your point about comparing places to home, and sure, we sometimes miss our familiar things, but experiencing different things is part of the joy of travel. Also I giggled about the NY reference, as I worked in CA with a guy from Long Island and he was constantly talking about how Californians are worse drivers, and our pizza and bagels are not good etc...(despite the fact that he had lived in CA for over 15 years).

Interesting! I didn't know about a Fidelity debit card so thanks for sharing! And yes, those New Yorkers have a hard time letting go for some reason.

Coincidentally I opened the Schwab account a couple days ago. I’m happy you experienced travelers confirmed my decisions. Helpful video overall!

Great tips all Americans need to take to heart. I'm glad you mentioned about tipping in other countries. The American tipping culture (which has become so out of control in recent years) is so engrained in us that it's difficult to let it go. Some Americans think they're doing a good thing by tipping like they do in the US anywhere they go in the world, but as you say, it just makes things confusing for the staff and I think some are probably offended by it. I remember once trying to tip my driver from the airport in Brisbane, Australia, but he politely declined and then, seeming somewhat insulted, said, "They pay us properly. We don't need extra help."

Wow! Thanks for sharing! That's good to know for when we finally get to Australia. You just saved us money and embarrassment.

It looks like a Canadian cannot open an account with Charles Schwab. Do you have any other recommendations?
@LucasWorldTravelКүн бұрын
Unfortunately, I don’t. Financial products are all very country specific and we know nothing about Canadian banks.

Great tips I agree with everything you mentioned having traveled to a few countries outside USA these tips are wise to save money especially with booking flights, hotels and food choices what you said about New York people they are rude mostly I'm sorry they have no manners and I experienced this from a couple on a tour twice they were so negative and I was embarrassed to be from America they were horrible why travel to be negative stay in New York 😊❤

We hear you! It’s funny how everyone has their on unique story about a negative New Yorker when they travel.
