I built my own system after being disappointed with Joolka. A simple 12 volt camper pump and an instant heater off Amazon. Connect the propane and the water and you’re ready to go. It’s been great for a year now.

Yeah I just use the Coleman hot water system now getting a caravan soon it’ll have its own hot water system so hopefully I won’t have any more dramas. I don’t know what the new. Joolca is like mine was one of the original ones that first come out hopefully they have improved their product 👍

Interesting video. Simple often turns out best hey. Of course you don’t have to waste the water whilst heating. If you put the water in the bucket as you did during the test, you can put that back in the tank. More work and a bit of hassle, but you don’t have to waste it unless you choose to dump it on the ground. Great video as usual. Thanks.

That's how we've done it for years. 23 dollar ( that time ) shower pump and a little 9ah 12 volt battery for at the back of the caravan what did not had an shower inside so we're using an shower tent. Like you one kettle of hot water on a bucket of cold water We found that the solar shower bag is getting way to hot to use in the summer

We used solar bags for 12 months. While traveling use to lay it on the vans tool box, so had hot water all the time. We use to put the hot water in an esky which we pumped out of. Any water left was still warm in the morning. Keep it simple.

Yeah I feel your pain , I've got a joolca and it does exactly the same problems you talk about, plus it takes a bit to ignite and I've also replaced all the connections because they leak and still do. Not only that the shower head had to be replaced and I also had to re wire the wire to the pump because the pump was cutting in an out. Other than that when it works its great, but every time I set it up for camping there's always a drama getting it going.

Great video thanks for sharing. I had exactly the same issues. My first Joolca failed to get over 28 degrees. After they repaired it it worked for less than 20 minutes then failed completely. I was offered a series 2 at a discounted price however the slightest breeze and it goes out. Very frustrating. Your simple method seems like a far better system. I’ll be changing my joolca for your setup for my next camping trip. Thanks again

I use a submersible Kickass shower. Easy, just fill a stainless bucket with water and heat it to 40 degrees on the fire. If no fire then as you said, heat a billy on gas and pour it into the bucket and add cold water to desired temp. When I first started doing this I tried to judge the temp and it always seemed to be too hot but I bought a 20 something dollar infra red thermometer. Perfect every time now

I appreciate your video! I’m building a backyard bathhouse for my wife currently and comparing products. For your application though I was wondering if you’ve tried those PVC pipe roof mounted showers? They’re cheap to build and heat up via solar on your roof and then gravity drain pressure for your shower. You have the pump so I’m sure it’d work better. But you should check it out if you have storage for the mount on your vehicle.

I have a Thermo mate shower , similar issues,but heats up fast, I just control the heat with the tap on the trailer , by adjusting flow. it stays at around 35 degrees. If I use a submersible pump it gets to hot and turning the gas down it goes out. get the flow right and it works a treat.

I’ve been doing the same. The kicksrse lithium shower is easy. Heat water in the fire then throw in the shower pump and switch on. No additional cords or battery. Simple and works a treat. 100 lt per charge. My joolca never had a issue. Use it for longer trips. Always run on low water output and adjust to 44 deg. Temperature of water is what can change the set temp. Water in the sun versus water left overnight in winter means u need to adjust the temp setting. I did have an issue with the filter in the pump clogging up with the smallest amount of debris. I took the small filter out and put in a larger hole filter have no issues since. If the pump doesn’t pump enough water u have a lot of running issues.

@@jesscalderon3766 have a look at an AQUEOUS 12v water heater. 6 litres. They are used in caravans but Its the same size as a joolca. Get a mixing valve and set the water to 38 degrees, water comes out at 38 degrees first tike everytime once u "boil" the water. 6L will do a few showers, as u mix hot with cold at the shower head.

I have the newer Joolca system for a couple of years now and haven't had a problem with it. One thing I noticed about the setup in this video is the hot water hose coming out of his Joolca didnt look like the original hose. Now I'm no expert so I could be totally wrong but, the original hose inner diameter is smaller than your standard hose. So as I see it, it creates enough back pressure to the Joolca unit to heat the water efficiently. I'm not saying I'm right. Just my observation. For all we know the Joolca unit in the video could be faulty.... still.
@ilove2explore
@ilove2explore 2 жыл бұрын
Its probably only academic as I think you have made up your mind now, but I would have added two temper valves, one for the shower and one for the kitchen. Then always run the Joolca as hot as it would go and the temper valve would mix cold water with the hot to output the same temp all the time, 4xAdventures has a very good video on how the temper valve works etc. Can you work on your sound levels. I had to turn up the volume to hear your intro speil and then got blasted by the intro, plus at other times it was going from quiet to louder

The portable gas HWS are just junk. Daughter got one as well and it is not what i would call hot at all. It has the same problems as yours. I have just installed a Duoetto MK2 RV Hot Water System into our camper trailer. So fare it has passed every test i have given it. Just has to Pass the OFF ROAD testing and longevity testing now. It gets really hot up to 70c on 12v dc for very little power use. Look into that one Mate. Better then stuffing around with black camp showers. We did that last trip. It worked but what a pain.

The hot water heaters are a PITA to get the temperature right coming out of the shower head but they are far easier and faster than screwing around with boiling pots of water and solar showers. Your just using it wrong. Your trying to integrate it into your pump system on your truck. Dont do that. All you need is to buy a small 12v pump (similar/same as the one you already are using on your truck), fill up a bucket of water and simply recirculate the water from the water heater into the bucket until the bucket is the right temp for your shower, then take your bucket and separate shower head/pump and go shower. Or, set the water heater to low flame and adjust the water flow to the desired rate, recirculate the water until the temp on the water heater is the right temp for your shower and start showering through the heater. Far simpler and faster than all the other BS. This is how I have been using mine for years and 0 issues.

Yeah I understand what you’re saying there’s always a solution to a problem . I have been using the bucket of water solution for awhile now but getting a little tired of boiling hot water so I was camping with a mate who had a new portable hot water system which I tried out and absolutely loved. I will be doing a clip on it soon but I love your idea. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully it will help someone else out who has the same problem? PS I never really had a problem with any of these hot water systems like the kickass or joolca they work as they’re meant to, but it’s the amount of water they use to do what they do, and because I have my water plumbed into my trailer. It was very hard to try and put it back again. Cheers thanks for watching and your comment 👍👍

I understand what you’re saying, but the pump that pumps the water out of the tanks on my trailer is connected to the camper trailer if I put the water into a bucket then I have to try and get it back in the water tanks on the trailer. That’s why I have never gone down that path we have found it much easier just to use a 12 V Pump in a bucket and most of the people I talk to do it that way now. I have recently bought a new product though that is much more efficient portable and can heat up as much water as you need. Will be showcasing it soon. cheers thanks very much. I hope this answers your question on why I don’t use my hot water system on the trailer. Cheers

Why don't you just put the shower by The Fill spout and then just run the water right back into your tank and then you're not losing any water that you're heating up it's just going right back into the tank and then use the shower when you're ready to use it I don't know just kind of makes sense to me but that's what I'm going to do

It could just be me but I’m not getting why you’re not filling up a bucket with water and sucking it into there hot tap from there there’s no way you can not lose water if you’re not recirculating it to heat it up in a bucket first I feel like using your big tanks isn’t the best idea be interested to see if it works better doing it that way
