I remember being at a street fair in Indianapolis in either 01 or 02. At the end of the street was a small stage. Two guys came out with acoustics and started playing. I immediately recognized the voice and knew it was Brett and their guitarist,and I was alone in front of the stage for two songs. The minute they kicked into Hemorrhage 50 people just materialized out of thin air.
@ericalston78804 күн бұрын
Fuel was so damn good, saw them live opening for 3 Doors Down and blew them off the stage. Had to play 2 encores because the crowd would not stop screaming for more. I know Carl wrote the songs, but Brett brought them to life. Not real sure why those 2 split and stopped playing together, but I would love to see them on stage together again
@drivebybodypierce7 күн бұрын
I really liked Fuel’s sound, and loved Brett’s voice. Was pretty bummed out when he parted ways with Fuel… Brett’s acoustic cover of Elton John’s “Daniel” was also a fantastic version that remains on a couple playlists I have to this day.

They came to my city back in 2013(i think), took my now wife to see them. It was their attempt to get back into the scene i later found out, booking smaller venues. The crowd was maybe 75 people, but they played like it was an arena. Sounded excellent. We got right up to the stage and had a great time. Tickets were only like $20. Man i miss those times.

Fuel was an awesome band. I was 15 when Shimmer came out - that song hit me hard. I was familiar with the other radio hits from Sunburn in 98/99. Something Like Human was released in fall of 2000 if I recall, I was 18 and taking a few classes at community college prior to going away to school in the spring semester. Needless to say I loved both albums and the third album that was released in 2003?. I listened to a lot of Fuel in college. Great band that seems to be overlooked.

Unfortunately, Epic Records never requested updated sales figures from the RIAA after the initial certifications, so Fuel's true success might be even greater than what's officially recorded. Their album Sunburn sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. and went Platinum in New Zealand and Australia. Their follow up album, Something Like Human, was even more successful, selling over 3 million copies in the U.S. and earning Platinum certifications in Canada and Australia. Even Natural Selection sold over half a million copies in the U.S

Sunburn is my favorite song of theirs, hands down! I LOVE Fuel, it's rather sad that they've had such a tumultuous history, but this band's classic lineup (Abercrombie, Miller, Bell and Scallions) is an unbelievably talented set of guys. I was supposed to see them reunited back in 2020 at a little festival show, but we all know how that year went. Luckily, when the festival came back, Brett was coming with his post-Fuel band and I heard him sing, you guessed it, Sunburn! I was floored by how amazing it sounded and I'm very fortunate to have heard it live❤

Carl Bell released a solo album Tennessee Bell. He’s a great songwriter no doubt. I saw Brett at a small venue in Johnson City TN with his wife Abby Gennet she was playing guitar and fronting her band Slunt it was loud and nobody was there. Probably the only show I’ve ever been to that everybody was emotionless including Brett.

Good video just feels a bit shorted. Would have liked your analysis of Natural Selection, Angels and Devils, Puppet Strings, and Anomaly. That's the story I want, Brett leaving, some other guy singing, Brett returns without Carl, makes an album, and finally Carl takes it back over with a different lead singer to make an album.

Shimmer and Iris are both excellent songs! That's a good #1 and #2. I used to say becoming a world-wide rock star was like winning the lottery. I need to adjust that. It's like in order to win the lottery you had to work your ass off for 15 years toiling and grinding and be incredibly talented - then you get to get in line for your lottery ticket and wait for your 1 in 1 million chance.

To me, Fuel always made bands such as Matchbox 20 and (especially) Puddle Of Mudd look mediocre and thin-skinned compared to Fuel's singing and song structure skills. It is as if Fuel's existance spawned copycat groups during Sunburn's release, sadly both which outlived Fuel's originality with their mockery of style.
