12 Years Timelapse of my mule palm @ Belgium

Hi everyone & welcome back to a new fun 'Time-lapse video'. This time it's up to my favourite, the 'Butyagrus'. 😁
Also known as 'mule palm'.
And this video is also a bit exceptional because this Butyagrus already had to endure a good survival on the way.
After about 5 years, a kind of blockage problem suddenly appeared. Because of this, the palm stood still for a year and lost a lot of time & created trunk. 😞
This also forced me to saw off a small part to free the blockage.
Luckily this all worked out and ended well and the palm has recovered very well and extremely hard until today. 💪👌
It is becoming the second eye-catcher in my garden with its beautiful graceful feathers...

That’s nuts what you did with the palm by sawing it off. Never knew you could do that. And then boom it took off! Very impressive and beautiful

Thanks for your comment Clint. 🙏 Yes, crazy indeed. There was a problem in the meristem and also a blockage. You can saw off part of the palm as long as you do not saw off the palmheart. It was indeed exciting, because it is my favorite. Luckily I knew what I was doing, and now I'm glad I did it. The palm would not have saved itself... In the meantime, this hybrid has become one of the eye-catchers in my garden. It has already been 6 meters high in those few years. So it grows very quickly, and this in our cold Belgium. Indeed, but I knew what I was doing. As long as the palm heart remains intact, the palm will repair itself. The growth rate is also super fast, this Butyagrus is really going crazy. 🙈 You can see recent photos on my Facebook or Instagram.👍

Il a bien décollé. Il est magnifique. J'ai planté le mien sur un câble chauffant de 50W pour l'aider un peu en hiver et au printemps surtout.

Tijd om hier ook de Butia Capitata in volle grond uit te planten, ik voorzie een plaatsje volledig zuidgericht en afgeschermd van de noordenwind door ons huis. Hopelijk is dat voldoende om onze winters te doorstaan .....erg inspirerende video trouwens - goed gedaan !

Goed plan en dank je 😊 Let wel op, deze video gaat niet over een Butia maar wel over een Butyagrus. Dat is een hybride, kruising van Butia met Syagrus. 😉

@@KD-cg9iq neen juist minder vorstbestendig dan de gewone Butia. Dit komt door de Syagrus, dat is een tropische soort die amper vorst aankan. Deze hybride (Butyagrus, sommige zeggen Butiagrus) neemt eigenschappen van beide ouders, dus ook de mindere vorstbestendigheid van de Syagrus. -5° a -6° is ongeveer de limiet om je een idee te geven.

Dank je. Ja inderdaad, niet zo makkelijk te vinden, vooral in Europa omdat ze meestal in de U.S. zitten... Maar het kan wel, je komt ze vast wel een keer tegen hoor 😉 Zaaien is ook een optie, zo heb ik het ook gedaan, maar dan moet je wel geduld hebben natuurlijk...🤷‍♂️

Bij Tropical Desire gevonden, maar voor die prijzen (wat heel misschien wel bij de formaat past) zaai ik ze liever zelf of ga ik met een zaailing aan de slag gezien de groeisnelheid. Maar ook de zaden kon ik niet vinden. Bij Green ID kon ik ze helaas niet vinden.

@@AnupKS ja ze kosten wel wat inderdaad, zeker als ze al wat formaat hebben. Komt ook omdat ze erg gewild zijn en niet zo makkelijk verkrijgbaar. Al word dat laatste wel al beter de laatste tijd... Bij Green-id staan ze (nog) niet op de website idd. Maar ze hebben ze zeker, gewoon even pb sturen of mailtje kan ook...👍 Wil ook even verduidelijken dat niet elke Butyagrus even snel groeit als de mijne. Het is een Hybride (kruising van 2 verschillende palmen) dus elke Butyagrus is anders. Ze kunnen dus erg verschillen in uiterlijk, groeisnelheid, vorstbestendigheid, enz... Ik heb zelf nog 4 Butyagrus nabonnandii (zelf gezaaid) en die groeien niet zo snel als deze van de video. Moet je dus ook wat geluk bij hebben 🤷‍♂️ Maar traag zijn ze niet dus 😉 Hopelijk heb je snel ook eentje om van te genieten 😊

Butyagrus wytrzymuje około -7°C. Zabezpieczam go pudełkiem wykonanym z poliwęglanowych płyt. W przypadku silnych mrozów w skrzynce dodaje się ogrzewanie. Powodzenia. 👍

Hi Marduk Like most of my palms. I always build a box over it. Well insulated with 32mm thick polycarbonate plates. If it gets too cold, the box closes completely and if necessary, heating is added in the box to keep it frost-free. Hi, this is a cross between two palm species, a Butia with a Syagrus. So a hybrid. This Butyagrus (Butia and Syagrus) is a very popular palm. That is why it is expensive and not so easy to find here in Europe. In America it is easier to obtain. I bought my specimen from another palm enthusiast in 2009. So very coincidental. I don't know any addresses where they can be obtained now. I don't know where you are from either. This webshop in Spain regularly sells hybrids, often also a Butyagrus... babypalms.eu/ Hopefully you find one soon, they are really beautiful. Good luck 👍😊

Il rischio, l'unicità, di coltivare palme qui, questa è la cosa migliore di questa passione. @@Dimi.Exotic.Garden capito ❤️ Io abito nella mia Sicilia e le palme sono ovunque. La specie più diffusa è la Washingtonia, poi Cocos plumosa e Phoenix dactylifera... Abbiamo anche Phoenix canariensis ma devono essere trattate a causa del punteruolo rosso. Poi l'autoctona Chamaerops humilis

@@Dimi.Exotic.Garden sì ma fortunatamente solo la Phoenix canariensis è quella molto martoriata, le altre stanno benissimo ❤️ anche la dactylifera sta benissimo, che le somiglia molto (è sempre Phoenix)
