Always entertaining but hard to take Sergio serious Hasn’t done the Olympia in 6 years, turning 40, has trained with everyone but still trying to figure things out 🤷🏻‍♂️ “Let me change my environment” that should do it Moves to San Diego, moves to Dubai… The whole moving to Spain training with Dorian is grasping at straws trying to find some outside motivating factor to continue competing but none of it seems to be sustainable for him. All the signs point to… his passion for competing has waned and he doesnt know what to do with himself. He feels he HAS TO compete Can he still win a pro show? YES of course But beyond that his time has passed as far as winning a major title

Does not sound like he is taking responsibility for his lack of success. Just looking for someone to give him a contract for sub par performance or even competing often enough. A pro needs to be showing up in their best shape and competing unless they are actually hurt. Like a Nick Walker hamstring issue.... That was a real excuse for not competing. Nick then came back and won the NY Pro!

You want to believe Sergio, because he sounds so genuine in this interview. But sadly he barely disclosed any details about what happened with all these off showings and even lack of showings. People have been in the dark for years and now he decides to come on and set the record straight. Just really fishy and hard to take seriously

I'm at the beginning. I find sergio annoying so this will be hard to finish, but he said he just found himself in dubai. How does that work when you sell your house and literally pack up??? You're in your mid 30s at that point. Who was paying his bills? How did he afford the bodybuilding lifestyle??
@janbuterfly
@janbuterfly 5 ай бұрын
He had an Indian "sponsor". After the accident, Sergio left Dubai and went to train in Spain with Dorian. Nobody knows what really happened with that situation, but seeing Sergio's behavior throughout the years, it's not hard to guess. Yes, he's annoying, but still lives under the shadow of his father, so people are always hoping he'll get himself together.

Terrific podcast! Sergio is very entertaining.. a really good storyteller. I think he should pursue other interests that allow him to capitalize on his innate talents . I don’t see him progressing any further in the sport competitively as he just doesn’t have the mental edge that the very best have which allows them to reach the type. No disrespect.. just would like to see him succeed and be happy without having to feel compelled to always explain why things don’t work it for him . He’s better than that in the scheme of things .

Sergio Sr mistakenly said in an interview that Jones trained him for the 72 Olympia. That is incorrect. Jones trained Sergio for the 1971 NABBA Pro Mr Universe which he lost to Bill Pearl. This was well publicized in the magazines at the time, leading up to the NABBA competition. Ellington Darden who worked with Jones has confirmed that Sergio trained with Jones in Deland Florida leading up to the 71 NABBA Pro Universe, but Sergio was not in Florida leading up to the 72 Olympia and Jones did not train him for that contest. I started following bodybuilding at that time so I saw the order of events as they took place.

Jay & Matt, I have been a huge fan of your podcast from the very first one but I have to say this one with Sergio has been the best I have seen yet. Sergio has a way about him that kept me riveted to every thing he talked about. I hope in the future he does well with his bodybuilding career but I also hope, once he settles in to Vegas, he decides to have his own podcast. Not to many people have the honesty and charisma to pull off a successful podcast and those are just 2 quality’s he projects. I just wanted to get my thoughts across and thank you especially for this podcast which, in my opinion was the best one you’ve had to date. If by chance you or Matt do take the time to read this please pass my sentiments along to Sergio. Thanks again for this podcast.

As the son of a “successful” bodybuilder from the classic era, I’m a fan of Sergio’s underdog persona and trying to prove himself. I also understand and clearly see him “getting in his own way” …addicted to his own cloud of chaos. It’s clear as day (even when interacting with Jay), he needs to SHUT UP, LISTEN, LEARN and FOLLOW THROUGH with the EXACT instructions of those trying to help or are hired to help. He was looking INSANE while under Dorian’s watch…most of us would kill for that opportunity. Hope he realizes soon that “his way” is not working.

you maybe right. The same can be said about the great Flex Wheeler, Paul Dillett, Chris Cormier, Lionel Beyeke and even the late great and beloved Cedric McMillan (RIP). Flex cheated a lot on his prep. Chris partied too much. Dillett never really suffered. His conditioning was his Achilles heel was his conditioning or lack of. The same for Lionel Beyeke. Cedric had allegedly anxiety issues and it affected his conditioning at O. I still have hope for Cedric. I don’t want to make excuses for the man. He is one of the few that tells it like it is and is transparent to his trials and tribulations. I would love to see him get things together within the next 3-4 years. His window is closing.

Unfortunately for Sergio Jr, he never grew up, no matter where he trains, he will always make enemies and leave in bad terms. He is too arrogant and immature, for someone who has not won an O and probably never will, the competition has left him way behind. Sad but true.

Sergio said things were his fault other than the accident. He stated he should have seen the red flags. He does take responsibility for his mistakes.

Love the podcast 🙏 Sergio mindset is just not there to go through what it takes to be #1. Great dude indeed. Also he got a GF so that love stage can be lethal for some dudes.

Man! Training with Dorian. You could win the Olympia! Looking jacked. Get back on the interwebs. People want to hear you talk about this body building game. Remember we are all body builders. We are either creating a good body, or a crappy body, Everyday, everyone, you choose.

@@jdgeibe Cutler is very Cheap. He has a nutrition compagny, he is succeded bodybuilder, he is rich and doesn't give back to the comunity y sponsoring some athletes and giving the a chance to train and compete. He should take an exemple of Fouad Abiad a little bit. I notice a lot of old Bodybuilders who did well in bodybuilding and make a money from it, they start a compagny and become rich but never sponsor athlete, they did it just for theirselves. But some people who wen't in the industry,just started a compagny of nutrution and sell productuct for training and sponsor athlete and help the to make a living from it. Look at Labrad, he sponsores nobody, so do Gaspari, Yates, Levrone, and so on, except Fouad. They really selfish and think only forb own interest. What a pity! They forget that they were poor and struggle to pay bills and the food and everything.

Sergio Oliva Jr equals the chaos theory. Still making the same mistakes as a 22 year old. Doesn't he know that most of the most successful sportspeople have calm almost boring lifestyles. Too much drama. He sounds damaged with unresolved daddy issues. He lacks tunnel vision and the ability to compartmentalize aspects of his life. He talks about Dorian. Didn't he know that Dorian would close his gym for customers and train alone in the morning /lunchtime with his partner to avoid distractions? Then sometimes during the afternoon/evening his gym would be closed and we would have to find a different gym to train at.

He thinks too much, he talks too much, too much drama. FFS, you was lucky enough to have Yates train you, then you complain that you didn't like it bcoz always been a volume guy, no pump, only 45 min sessions, blah blah. And what has that volume got you? An O? An Arnold? High placings in either? Man dafuq up, use the knowledge that Yates taught you in training and JUST DO IT duh.

Serio is 1000% right aint no bodybuilders doing well that are kot doing well mentally. Just no matter how hard you try your body will not respond like you want it too when you're stressed out, depressed or anything like that. Why guys like Stephan, Hany or Niel for that matter are all soo good coaches is cus they're more mental coaches than anything.
