120 Volt To 12 Volt Appliance Conversion Without Inverter RV TV BluRay Don't Try This At Home

Convert 120 volt TV and BluRay player to 12 volts. No need for a inverter when this method is used. I use this set up on my RV solar system. 120v to 12v applications in off grid living RV, Tiny house, tiny home, cabin, vanlife ect. Don't try this at home.

So you didn't do any "Conversion" on the units, you simply bought units that already had DC power adapters installed. Like the ones you can buy at any of the larger Pilot/Flying J/TA truck stops. What I wanted to see was someone taking the back panel off of a regular TV and doing a mod to attach 12Volt power into where the TV actually converts the AC to DC already. Flat panel TVs don't send mains power through the systems they all have converters to change AC to DC. So, technically there isn't any problem with running them on DC. Your home computers don't use AC. The "Power Supply" converts AC to 12v (5v 7v) feeds so even our home computers could run off of a 12volt line.

Exactly. The TV's he's talking about operate on DC anyway and have an in-line converter to convert 110 AC to 12-14 volt DC. This guy didn't do any "conversion".

Our 24" LED Samsung we got at Costco uses the same plug but I have not cut the wires to try it. Thanks for letting me know that it does work and maybe I can find another cord and use it.

Just found your KZbin Vedio. Great job. Everything can be converted back from AC to DC. What I mean to say all modern TV's work in DC only. That is to say any Appliance that has a Semi Conductor can only run Power 🔋 DC. FYI They make 32 inch TV's that run on DC or AC. But good for you

It would seem that a lot of computer LED monitors might work as well. Of course, they don't have the COAX Ant hook ups but with the DVD/Blueray/AppleTV/ROKU/etc. it should work.

Question! what if the appliance or whatever we are converting says DC 24V input? or even DC 18V? both are the barrel plugs! Can i still convert to the 12v cigarette plug?

No. If it is labeled 18 or 24 volt you won't be able to run it on a 12 volt. You'd need at least 15-16 volts to run a 18 volt device in general. If you have a 24 volt DC device you can run 2 12 volt batteries in series to produce 24 volts and run it that way.

I have also seen usb-c powered computer monitors(16" and up) which you could run with just a USB dc converter, off of a 12vdc battery. Not sure if you have considered this but I am looking into a way to connect a larger screen off of a usb-c powered laptop for watching movies and shows off of a 12vdc battery bank. The nice thing about the laptops is, if they have their own power supply, then you can run them when there is no solar charging, without consuming power from your battery bank. I think I saw one LG usb-c laptop that had an 18hr power supply. Or you could run them as a dual monitor setup for doing work or whatever.

This is a terrible video, you are just trying to click bait people. You have a 12v tv, that's it. You don't need an inverter for a tv designed to run off of 12v. You are misleading people into thinking that you are going to show them how to convert a standard 120v tv into 12v, even at the beginning of the video you say to just hold on and you'll show how you wired it up. No, that TV normally runs off AC mains voltage but it comes with an external power brick that converts 110V (or 240V) AC into 14V DC. This guy is showing you that this mains powered Samsung TV can actually run directly off a 12V DC supply by ignoring the power brick and hooking it up directly to a 12V DC battery.
