I’m a big fan of female artists just like I am male artists. Equality! Love this selection you came up with here Jack👍

Lots of interesting and somewhat unknown, for me, artists there, as usual 😊 Thank you for the video Jack!

Nice show Jack. Female artist is always a fan favorite, great list. I was knee deep at a pick today in a store closed since 80’s. I had one hour and grabbed abt 25 records.

I can't believe you saw Patti Smith at CBGBs! She's one of my favorite punk poets. Great showing here, Jack. Mad respect.

Thanks Mark. I’ve heard Smith still puts on a great show. Cheers.

Jack, having dinner at home after a long work day and watching your thread. Fantastic! We definitely are in the same wheelhouse when it comes to female artists, and have releases in my collection from just about everyone mentioned here. I've seen Bonnie Raitt live as well a few times over the years, and you are right that those 70's releases can't be beat. Rough Trade is on my radar now along with Esther Phillips. Then, BAM, Laura Nyro! I have loved her for years, and I pretty much have all of her releases on vinyl. I showed the Stoned Soul Picnic 2 CD comp since I was going a bit long on my video - ha! She and Geffen have a very interesting history, to say the least. It's all great, but my go-to's are 'Christmas and The Beads of Sweat' from 1970, and 'Gonna Take a Miracle' from 1971 that she recorded with Labelle, and Gamble/Huff produced it. So glad you had fun making this video and I appreciate the time you took to put it together, along with the mention of my channel. Going to make a playlist on my channel of all the entries made so far - so many great new female artists/bands to check out! Thanks again! 🎶🎤🎹🎸😎

My pleasure Ed, it was fun to do. Still on the hunt for Nyro’s Tenderberry album. The fun is in the hunt. Cheers.

Hi Jack, I'm surprised you didn't mention Bonnie Raitt's classic 'Nick of Time'. Fantastic record. Patti Smith was on the shortlist for my own video. Never saw her live, but my best pal back in the day always said she and her band were incredible. No doubt you've seen that clip of her singing 'People Have The Power' in New York with the audience as choir. Just gorgeous. About twenty years ago the owner of my favourite record shop (now closed) gave me a mint album cover of Nyro's 'New York Tendaberry' thinking I'd eventually find a mint record to go with it. The empty cover still sits on my record shelves, dammit!

I only have Nick of Time on CD David. Great comeback for her after she got sober. I still don’t have the Tendaberry album, but I’ll find it eventually one day. Cheers.

Fun to see what female artists you like Jack. Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention I enjoy as well. I do also really like Julie London and Sinead O'Connor. So many to choose from for this thread. And not forgetting Betty Davis who is phenomenal. Great response.
@vinylmartini33773 ай бұрын
Definitely need some Betty Davis in the collection. When I see her in the used bins they are always in poor shape and very expensive. Cheers.

Hi Jack. Ella and Louis, how can you go wrong? Roberta Flack’s first three albums are perfect. Her Dylan cover 🥇! Patti Smith at CBGB must’ve been amazing. Especially early on in her career, Ed has a great channel. Excellent choices.

Thanks Mark. I was lucky to see some incredible shows back in the day. Cheers.

Hi Jack! I have a few of these including some Roberta Flack. I love Rough Trade. I only have a CD compilation. Very cool you saw them in a small club. I only have Patti Smith’s Easter. I have a copy of Surrealistic Pillow of course. ✌️

The direct to disc thing only lasted for a short period. They were priced quite a bit higher, which probably was a big factor.

Hi Jack, you’re right about Patti Smith. I don’t think I’ve seen anybody show her in this thread, and the records of her’s you showed certainly don’t get shown. Love Sandy Denny, excellent voice and you saw her! You certainly saw some great gigs….CBGC’s fantastic…. what was that like? Interesting picks. Mike

Hi Mike. The show at CBGBs was incredible, very small space. Late 70s New York was like a combat zone back then. Not like the considerably safer place it is now. Cheers mate.

Hey Jack! Ed is up to 80 as of now, so close to 100! Some great choices here. Ella Fitzgerald is so damn talented!!!

That was quite a selection. I was trying to enjoy your video during my Friday lunch break, but kindergartners keep banging on the door and calling out, “Im sorry,” for some reason. It’s been twenty minutes now and they keep coming by. Usually my Friday lunch time is peaceful.
Very nice Jack, mine would be straight from the top of my head, in no order: Janice Joplin Patti smith Martha vettel Ann Peebles Heart Fanny Lauryn Hill Mariska veres Merry Clayton And of course Tina turner

I wonder, Rough Trade did a direct to disc and so did FM. Was that a trend at all back then? I’ve watched about ten of these, and you’re the first to mention Grace Slick.

Some great female artists Jack. I really love Sandy Denny and North Star Grassman... is my favourite album by her. Sadly I never got to see her perform. Patti Smith is another great choice. I must check out Rough Trade, not heard of them before. Coincidentally I received 4 Laura Nyro albums as vclt a few days ago. Cheers Mike.

Thanks Mike. I think you’re going to enjoy those Nyro albums. Fun coincidence. Cheers.
