Another helpful thing I have found is breaking down the cardboard, making it flat and storing it sideways to save space. I put it in a plastic bin. Then, I toss it in the garden to cover patches of weeds, and cover it with dirt. I have even left it uncovered, behind hedges you can’t see from the street, and. It covered it. A little messy, but no weeds is a real plus whatever it looks like.

Here's hoping the weather is better tomorrow. I once had some seed sowing trays like those. They were quite flimsy once the compost was in. Luckily we had plenty of seed trays knocking about and they fitted in made it easier to carry them. But we learnt our lesson and didn't get any more of that type 😅😊
@darlenebradley67563 ай бұрын
I use the plug pots like you bought...I've saved mine from plant purchases and wash them thouroughly between uses. I don't leave them in sunlight for storage, or out in the freezing cold and get several seasons of use from them before they start breaking up. On the wheel barrow, smaller is better (IMO) because they not only take up less space to store, they are lighter and more manuverable than a deep one that one may find, when filled, is impossible to push. The oil coating is to protect the finish until use. I loved seeing the bag of Miracle Grow! Here in the States what you call 'compost' we call 'potting soil'!

As a senior gardener, my wheelbarrow is very important to me. I throw heavy things is there and I don’t want to fight balancing it, so I have two wheels at the front. They used to make it with four wheels, but two will do. One wheel in the front just doesn’t work for me. The wheels are plastic, and I was also given a metal wheelbarrow, with much lower sides and with two pneumatic wheels on the sides, which needs air, about twice a year, but no problem. Also very good for balancing. Lower sides allow for tossing in heavy bags without lifting them too far up. Much good luck with the one you bought and the seedlings.

I love the music you play (when making the wheelbarrow)… just so lovely , I too prefer a steel barrow, plastic ones are just awful , I do have a little two wheel cart for taking tools around the garden, bags of soul, picking up rocks to make garden beds… very handy little Sherlock cart, use it to bring the firewood in too 😅

Try to keep your red wines in a cool, dark place (about 13 degrees c is ideal) until you are ready to use it. It's best stored horizontally. Bring it out to warm up to room temperature when you are ready to drink it. It will deteriorate if kept out in a warm, sunny, room. £12 for a bag of compost that size is expensive but if you have no means of transporting it I suppose you have to pay extra. Would you be able to get some delivered from the allotment society? Do you have any access to straw to put on top of your potatoes? I assume you will be earthing them up so only the tips of the leaves are showing?

No frost yet here though it’s been below 50F recently at night so it’s on its way. I’m down to the fading sunchokes that may or may not have produced tubers, and a purple sweet potato vine that seems to be surviving despite all. Here’s hoping that produces. I harvested my turnips and got about a half dozen in total this season. I’ll do better next year. I planted too many and too close so I had to cull a lot with nowhere else for them to go. “We plan our garden while it snows.” - the Solstice Song by Molly and the Tinker. Bulbs will do well in pots, the bulbs have to be twice the depth of their size but they will freeze quicker when the weather drops so don't go for too big a pot incase you need to move them to shelter. The bulbs can also be put directly into the ground which is what I do.
