Hi Lorrie, I absolutely love your style, and I had a question about the pinata ink. I have the brass (after realising not all metallic brands work the same) and I was wondering if all the pinata metallics behave the same way or is it something about the brass? (I know you use it because you prefer the colour) I wanted to try silver but I didn't want to spend money on a colour if it didn't do the same thing. I'm still working through your videos, so sorry if this was already explained in one of them.

Thank you for the compliment! So far, I have only gotten the same effects with the Piñata brass and Molotow chrome refills. I have heard that others have had some luck with one or two other things, but I haven’t tried them. The Molotow chrome is very expensive, but it is the only silver I have found that works. Just be careful not to over work it or it blends in with your ink very easily. It’s very pretty that way, but I like the shiny, chunky bits lol. I have heard that people have had luck with a couple of the Ranger alloys, but I can’t say for certain since I have not tried them. Maybe it’s time for a video on how different ones act since I would like to know about other possibilities, too! 😊

Did you do the original symbol with a brush? I don’t understand why it didn’t reactivate when you added the colours. Is white the only colour that works like that?

I did do the symbol with a brush. The Piñata blanco blanco is one of the very few that will not be easily reactivated by alcohol. It takes blending solution to get it to move easily even when it’s still wet. I have noticed that the Tim Holtz / Ranger pearls are similar, but I haven’t tried painting over them to see how well they stay once dry if I paint over them using alcohol. An experiment for another day lol. I have no idea why these certain ones seem to act this way. The white will start moving a little if you get it too wet again for too long, but as long as it doesn’t stay saturated for too long it seems to do fine.

Lori, what do you consider the best surface to ink on that is closest to tile?😊

That’s kind of a tough one to answer. Really, anything smooth and glossy works. Acrylic or glass panels are good, some metal surfaces, if they are smooth enough, are good. Wood that has been sealed with something waterproof like Kilz or even resin works good as well. It’s really just a matter of preference and what look you are going for. The best thing to do is to experiment to see what results you like the best from different surfaces. I don’t personally have a preference for one particular thing. I just like painting on anything that I can lol. 😄

I can’t find Krylon Kamar anywhere in stock near me. Is there another product you would suggest for sealing my paintings?

I am having trouble finding Kamar as well. Even Amazon doesn’t have it. I’ll have to do some experimenting to see what else will work without reactivating the ink. If you decide to try something else, just make sure it is a water based varnish and do very thin, light coats, letting it dry good between until you know how it’s going to act with the inks.
