I was sweating until the very end when he said REMEMBER - DO NOT CONSIDER THE MEMBERS YOU DON'T CUT. Jeff, you solved about 10 years of me hating this method with that statement. I've always screwed that up and over-complicated my problems.

@@SuperPenguinpenguin I made the calculation later for EG, and it's equal to zero. But if there's zero reaction, why even have a member there? What's the point of having a structural member with zero force? Why not just remove it then?

@@martinAbC for loads -- ie a bridge needs to handle movement of cars, wind, etc. it's just that the current forces don't make use of the member, but it would have purpose in another situation

Hey Jeff, i wanna take this moment to thank you for teaching me statics. I didn’t know what’s going on in my statics class until my friend recommended me to watch your videos. Here I am at 4Am watching them for my final which is at 7AM. Whatever grade I get, it’s because of you, sir!!! Merci pour toutes 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Hey Jeff, great videos! Really clear and personally, they l have helped me out a lot. So thank you! You have a small mistake at the end of the video Calculating HE (should be 3.54 or(2.5/sin(45)= 2.5*2/√2) not 3.34) this means that DE is an even 12 not 11.86) Hope this is helpful. Keep up the good work.

@pielditakau
@pielditakau Ай бұрын
Exactly what I got, but DE should be in compression. Remember when you are substituting for HE to get DE, you put in -3.54 coz it's in compression. And the overall outcome is negative, so it's in compression.
@pielditakau
@pielditakau Ай бұрын
Hey senior @jeff, the value of HE is 3.54kips in compression whereas the value of DE is 12Kips in compression as well. It doesn't matter if you take your left as positive and vice versa. Thanks btw

In the summation of FY, it should actually be in tension cos the HEsin45 has to move to the other side to become positive that is 9.5-7=2.5. 2.5-HEsin45=0 take the HEsin45 to the other side. It becomes positive. Check it again sir
