Brings back memories from the 1970`s , got about 6 pence each on piecework, brass, copper and aluminium lighting , no gloves, goggles or PPE/H & S, and dropped the blank in with lathe on continuously , working in Birmingham metal bashing quarter/ jewellery quarter.

How could you drop the blank in while the lathe was running?

It’s funny how almost every British spinner I’ve seen on KZbin worked in Birmingham! I currently work for a metal spinning firm in Birmingham.

Fantastic! Any leads you can give about where to get supplies for this type of work would be appreciated. I guess you're using a polyethylene support on the tailstock side?
@chrislegaux4 жыл бұрын
the tailstock support can be just about anything...UHMW, Delrin, PVC, brass, wood, composite, etc. The spin chucks are shop-made to your specs and the hand-tools can be shop made or purchased. Mostly, everything would be shop made to fit your specific needs

Is it possible to convert a typical South bend lathe to do this?
@chrislegaux Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can spin on any lathe. But lots of pressure is put on the bearings. Little parts like these not so much, though. You need to be able have a spinning rest mounted and you’re good to go. Speed (RPM) is needed, too. So the upper end of the lathes pulleys should be used.
