I wonder if his theory fits with another one, described in the book "Spin Dictators". Incidentally, one of the given examples in the book is a prominent leader of Singapore, considered as dictator of this type. Singaporeans lived relatively good at the time, yet this doesn't really correspond with the reality from "Why Nations Fail", where absence of checks and balances means low life standards etc. Or did I miss something?
