Good video! I set up a 125 a few months ago. Great size tank. I went with peacocks and haps. Long time fish keeper 1st time Cichlid tank. Not full grown but beautiful all male. Love this tank. Down side is I have a red shoulder peacock that is insane. I named him Satan. It got so bad he was trying to kill an OB and sunshine peacock. I had to take all the fish out of a 60 gallon tank and combine them in my 75 gal. Now Satan lives in the 60 with 1 bristle nose Pleco. I tried to move him back to the 125 and he went crazy. At 1st the OB he used to bully got the upper hand. Within 30 minutes Satan was back in charge and chasing anything that moves. It’s crazy! He is not even full grown. He may have to go

Great channel, very helpful information, thank you so much. I have a pair of red spotted gold severums in a 192 gallon American tank, they are up to 5-6 inches now. I don't know the names of the plants, but after many tries I stumbled upon a few types of plants that they don't devour, so in my experience it's not impossible to keep them in a planted tank. Perhaps it has to do with the size of tank, tank mates or other factors.

I know this video is 2 years old, but, Jason, there’s no reason to perpetuate the “poor man’s discus” nonsense. Severums have their own thing going. They don’t look like discus. They’re not sensitive weaklings like discus. They’re awesome fish that stand on their own and definitely don’t deserve to be referred to as a lesser form of another fish.

There’s many cool Thoricthys species. Maculipinnis are back in hobby and others available. Cicalasoma (old name) Robertsoni is another beautiful fish. Some of the best colors on an American cichlid. My thing is West African cichlids..Many don’t make good community fish but very underrated. Chromidotilapia soecies, Limbochromis, Rarer Hemichromis like Guinea 1 or 2, Steatocranus species, larger Pelvicachromis Humilis etc..Lots of more peaceful dwarfs too like P. Taeniatus, Analachromis Thomasi, Nanochromis. Some West Africans are one species but numerous color morphs like the P. Taeniatus. I’ve kept/bred Moliwe, Nigeria Red, Wouri, Kierke, Lobe. Really nice fish.

@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
That is the best way to do it, but I would set them exactly the same otherwise one will always be on the the other off. The best way to run them both is to have an independent thermostat that can turn them on and off at the same time.

Okay, tell me what you think on this, I have a 150g High and I was thinking about doing every representative of the severum family (if you know what they are, please list them below) some Electric Blue Acura and angels as a different, much slower dither. I think that could work. I had them all together in my 150 for a long time with no issues. Full grown - it's hard to say. If you have multiple males for either the geos or the severums they may chase each other around a lot. If you can get a males with a couple females that might work better?
@fishandfloral4 жыл бұрын
I have 5 severum currently, 2 male and 3 female. Two have paired up and the aggression is bad enough that I’m rehoming them. I think it would be better if you could go all male, but when bought small they are hard to sex.
@F62494 жыл бұрын
Sir one question! I have 4 gouramis (2+2 kissing and dwarf) 1 big tinfoil barb 2 severum 2 Milky koi And 1 rainbow shark black The problem i noticed is that, the rainbow shark runs behind the Gouramis, ultimately nipping them. So I am planning to give it back to the fish seller. Which fish should I buy, that would not harras others that I have in my tank?
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the size of the tank. Just looking at the fish I would assume they are in a 125 or larger (or will be at some point)? The kissing gouramis may be your next issue - those dudes are mean as they get older. :-) The Koi will eventually need a pond.

@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Tough to say for sure. Sometimes a combo like that works ok, other times you get a really aggressive male or two and the whole tank is a mess. If they are all males you could have decent amount of aggression. They will all grow quickly. If you have a 6ft 100 gallon, that will put you in a better spot.
@StanTheObserver-lo8rx4 жыл бұрын
Rainbow fish!...A M.boesemani or M. trifasciata aka Goyder River can reach a chunky 5+"..kept in groups they can get great use of a 6' long tank. Good with most plants but tender leafed like Triparta?- Rainbows will eat them faster than they grow..but most common aquarium plants work perfect and of course Rainbows do no digging. Rainbows,Roselines,Garras,Clown Loaches..sort of a standard combo and why not? They go perfectly together.

How about a largemouth bass and blue gills or any other native fish
@PrimeTimeAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Blue gill can work, but bass need something closer to 300-500 gallons due to their adult size.

What is the the name of that type of solid yellow fish at 12:53? Do you have those for sale?
@PrimeTimeAquatics3 жыл бұрын
I believe those are Opthalmotilapia Nasuta. Those aren't my fish, those were from a friends tank. Really cool - usually very expensive (I've seen them retail for $75 - $100 each).
