Little update to our mostly all-male tank as we had a few new additions. Excuse the camerawork, I tried getting in close to show them off. Some like the camera, others are shy.
Thanks to all that like our fishies =]
2015 Update: In case any of you are wondering, the tank is still running but isn't as spectacular and not overcrowded anymore. I still have cichlids but it is far less populated for a variety of reasons. I don't have fish on the brain like I used to so I have a decent number where I don't have to do many water changes and not worry about aggression. It is very low maintenance at this point.

Hey man, nice aquarium. I have a 125 gallon with mostly Malawis, and 3 Frontosa and a Yellow-Banded Moori from Tanganyika. I've been told over and over not to do that, but I've had them together six months, and the Malawi pretty much leave the Frontosa alone. The Fronts are quite a bit bigger than most of the Malawis, although I have an Electric Yellow Lab and a Cobalt Blue that are as big as the largest Front. I make sure to feed the Malawis their veggies with a little protein first, then I put in the meat for the Frontosa after the Malawis are good and full. The Malawis still try to get the worms or shrimp, but the Frontosa get a good share of it too. The Moori does like to mess with the Malawis. The Moori has a little more aggression, and for some reason, likes to chase around one particular purple Malawi, which I have not yet identified. Just beautiful Nesto! Love your tank and all the fish! I am just getting started on stocking my 125...some guy sold me 3 baby convict cichlids last night for $3.00..LOL he told me they were from Africa around the Lake Malawi and Tanganyika lakes!! My bad, I should have researched the Convict species when I saw his local Advertisement! I laugh now because his wife said he had a degree in marine biology! Anyway....I only have 4 African cichlids and they don't seem to mind the convicts as of yet since they are only a 1.5 inches; however, I will be taking them out before they get to big and aggressive. Maybe sell or give them away. My wife is going to a pet store today about an hour away to pick up some more African cichlids....I told her, "Don't let them sell you South American Cichlids! hahah

These fish are cared for with love that makes a difference to me. I don't know about anyone else but I want quality fish it makes a difference when you spend your hard earned money for a fish then you get him home and a day or two later you come home from work, and that fish it's belly up. I want fish that has been fed the best of foods, that has been raised in the best water quality and just have been loved. Aud fish land is that company, if you want quality fish, then this is your best company to purchase from. All there tanks are maintained, with the proper oh levels, etc. aud fish land is the best! 10 STARS

Hes hardy but unfortunately never has nice fins anymore. I had to separate him cuz he was harassing another red-tail I have. Hes always cleaning the glass and harassing Leleupi

if you're talking about the smaller one that goes out of view, blue-ish grey with orange fins, thats a female Copadichromis Borleyi.

Thanks I think lol. I'm not really a fan of biotopes so I wasn't striving for that look and setup. No planning went into this, its our first african cichlid tank and its just what I found was pretty, bought and added. Theres also non-africans in there as well. The tank is always changing and looks a bit different now. I removed the plants long time ago and the fake rock piece. Fish have been removed and others added. If you see my latest video, its more representative of what it looks like today

Nesto, your fish are STUNNING...and Healthy....but, too fat. Remember that a flat or even slightly concave belly is best. The fish foods we feed them in captivity has more nutritional value in ONE feeding than they would get in 2-3 DAYS of feeding in the lakes. Cut back on your feeding by one. A healthy fish doesn't get fat deposits around the liver and ovaries and therefore will produce MORE eggs....and live longer in general. Just an FYI from a breeder with over 36 years experience :)

I used to feed very heavily back then, which deteriorated the water quality and I had to deal with bloat several times, medicating the whole tank. I've lost interest in the last 6 months and the fish have lost weight but I have no more bloat or deaths. I have fish with somewhat concave bellies that I thought for sure would perish but are still going. So what you said makes sense and explains it.

I use an Aqueon ProFlex Model 4 sump with a Danner Mag 18 (I think) and a LifeReef overflow box. It pushes around 1000-1200gpm and has 3 filter socks plus another filter pad and sponge with regular weekly water changes ranging from 30-70% depending how lazy I'm feeling.

no UV sterilizer. I'm not sure why ppl think my water is so clean lol. It could be that my Aqueon sump has 3 filter socks then a drip tray with filter pads and then a sponge filter last. theres also a sponge filter on my return pump. its likely those 10 or 100 micron socks tho, they get filthy and i try to change them out every 1-2 weeks

Petrochromis sp. Red (Bulu Point), usually referred to as Petrochromis Red Bulu. They're rare and are expensive. You'll only find them online.

Tommy He unless you have wild specimens (and then even still), I'm not a believer in messing with PH and hardness and such. I think giving the same and stable water parameters all the time is better (my water is already hard and ph of 8.0) rather than constantly messing with things which I think does more harm. I mean think about it, whoever raised your fish, did you ask them what their water parameters were? I doubt fish shops have each tank running different settings for whatever breed fish is in them. They all have the same water, trust me. And like I said, unless they're wild, they've only known aquarium life so why bother.

What Ricers Do What Ricers do well, i wish i could take credit but i didnt make him like that. He became attracted to one of other fish and so he showed off his breeding colors. He also became dominant and that part of the tank was his 😅
