Cavity Back Bullets makes a 118gr mono with 3 peddles that hold together nicely. Thier too small for my .264 WM but I'm planning a 6.5 Grendel bolt action pistol build with a varmint barrel I think would be perfect.

This is an old video, but I would like to say I really appreciate your channel. Your approach to bullet testing is by far the best I have found, thank you! You haven't by any chance tested the 100 gr Cutting Edge Raptor, have you? I'm thinking of loading those for my daughter in 6.5 CM.

No I haven't. I like the stopping power of cutting edge bullets in regards to game. I have for the most part gotten away from using them because I've had a couple rifles in a row that with these newer rifles the tighter tolerances for better accuracy the freeboard does not have enough room for that seal tight band so there is no real bullet seat depth adjustment you can make and I have trouble getting them to shoot accurately in those cases. You can avoid those type of issues completely going with hammer bullets that also have great penetration great transfer of energy and stopping power. Another good option would be badlands bulldozers.

Excellent test. Not enough channels even touch cutting edge bullets. I get it, high price, gotta roll your own, but they sport amazing accuracy reputation, have better than average BC numbers over nearly everyone except A-tips, and reportedly perform at a massive velocity envelop. But I'm interested in using them for medium velocity, but heavier bullets, so a sort of quasi-thumper, and hardly anyone compares these in videos for hunting, or discusses the pros and cons for hunting.

Price has definitely been a deterrence for me in regards to Cutting Edge bullets. They are though, one of the best ballistically performing bullets after impact that I have ever tested. The Maximus line giving the best results. The only issue I've ever had with them is in a few different rifles, that sealtight band interferes with the freeboard and I cannot adjust my bullet seat depth for accuracy. In some cases it has caused excessive pressure issues not having any freebore.

@@simplemindedfella interesting, hopefully I don't run into issues with that as I try to teach myself this stuff in preparation of the 8.6 blackout coming out soon, from Q. I bought some 338 225gr lazers, I'm a total novice, but in that cartridge the spin is so fast that most lead designs give up the ghost or get close enough they deform or fail. Some weights and velocities can render as much as 400,000 rpms, so thats why I was intentionally looking for large copper high bc bullets that perform at lower speeds and have longer than average per weight ogive. Cutting edge were the only ones. Q themselves focus mainly on barnes bullets, but the bands are exposed and the design wastes a lot of potential ogive instead showing a lot of bearing surface. But from what I've seen, the high spin turns the humble mushroom of most heavy for caliber Barnes bullets into a radial ratchet shaped pinwheel of destruction.

@@ravissary79 because of the issues I was having in regard to the freebore with my 6mm Creedmoor I tried hammer bullets (I'm having the same issues with one of my 6.5 Creedmoors and a 308) man am I liking them. Haven't used them in the field yet but they tested really good in gelatin and my 6mm Creedmoor loves them. Shooting 2 inch groups at 400 yards and I'm not a great shooter. You might look into Hammer as well if you run into issues with Cutting Edge.

Not too shabby on high velocity. If it was over 1800 fps on the lower velocity would it be much different of an expansion? It is surprising the amount of damage some of these bullets can produce and the extent of penetration at velocities so far below 2000fps.
@simplemindedfella3 жыл бұрын
These did so well and I have a couple more I may test them in a Grendel for a visual on the mid range velocities. Definitely would have a little larger and deeper permanent wound cavity at 2k.

Like all monolithic projectiles the more velocity the better the expansion. Although difficult in my 20” Sako barrel, I’d Strive for 3K+ for that weight class. Just my 2c.

What is your all time favorite 6.5 and 30 cal hunting bullets for longer ranges? I want to toy with mono’s, but I’ve had great results with Berger’s, regardless of the results you and others have shown…

I haven't used many nonalcoholic bullets in the field yet. With the testing I have done I am most impressed with Hammer Bullets. I am setting up a 6mm Creedmoor with the 88gr Hammer's. Don't know if I will be using it for any hunts this year. I wasn't very successful drawing tags. I currently use the Nosler ABLR's in my 6.5 Creedmoor, one of my 308 Winchesters, my 30-06, 300 Winchester Magnum, and plan on using them in a 6.8 Western as well. I have been very pleased with them. Bergers are lethal I'm just not a fan. If you like how they are performing for you then you should probably stick with them.
@brandondeckert98382 жыл бұрын
@@simplemindedfella I understand. I agree the testing says they’re awful, I’ve just had contrary results. I’ve had fantastic results with the Barnes Matchburner 112’s in my 6XC as well, between 88 and 399 yards. They hold together really well for a match bullet with a great BC. I’m thinking of setting up my PRC with Badlands Bulldozers, Edge, or Hammers. With the velocity gained over a 156 I can probably get close on wind drift within 600 yards. Past that the Berger’s surely win in the wind cheating department.

@@brandondeckert9838the bullet design of the Hammer's really helps with reduced drag going down the bore. I have just started playing with them and I am liking how accurate they are on top of better velocities. I used Bergers for a wile and worked for a wild game prossor for three seasons in Wyoming (we averaged 1200 animals a year at that facility) I formed my opinion on them long before I started testing bullets. They tumbled very consistently and in most cases come apart quite violently when they do and that dose make them lethal. I'm just not a fan of what they do and more so at closer ranges. Its a personal preference thing. There are some situations where I would consider using them.

What solid copper bullet would you recommend for the .260 Rem? I shoot the 140 Nosler Accubond now with great results but I'm afraid that NY is going to push for non-lead ammo shortly, at least on State land. I'm using 44 grains of H4831sc at about 2660 fps.
@simplemindedfella Жыл бұрын
My two favorites are Badlands Bulldozer 2 and Hammer Hunter. If you're not trying to reach out there with maintained energies and velocities and don't need really high ballistic coefficiencies, then I would lean towards the Hammer Shock Hammer bullet.
