Great information, Cutting Edge bullets really work. Seams the Maximus expand better then the MTH's. Way better then Barnes, Hornady or Nosler monolithics.

The Maximus line seems to have the best overall terminal performance of the Cutting-Edge bullets. Hammer Bullets are another monolithic I have been impressed by.

@@simplemindedfella I wonder if it is like mine with a 1 in 11.5 twist ever time I would test a bullet heavier then 140 it would tumble I'm my wet pack with the cutting-edge bullet it looks pretty long
@simplemindedfella
@simplemindedfella 2 жыл бұрын
@@cory8791 mine is a 1:9.5 Hard to say. The pedals didn't shed consistently and that could have caused the bullet to tumble adding extra drag on one side. Even when using tighter twist and keeping rpm's up certain bullets have a tendency to tumble after impact especially at lower velocities. Burger bullets are very consistent at this and that is what gives them the reputation they have at long range. I pulled many whole bullets out of the far side hide when working for a game processor that were deformed yet whole Burger bullets and the clients were really surprised that bullet was whole because it did so much damage to the animal internally. That was only because it tumbled.

@@simplemindedfella I think thos hamburger bullets are not realy good for hunting. I like bullets which hold together a bit better. Altough I shot about 100 deer with the 162gr eld-x out of my 7x64 and that bullet fragments a lot. But the lower velocity compared to the 7mm mag in my 7x64 helps to keep things a bit better together. And they bloody smack deer like a train🤣 love em. Altough our deer in Europe are verry small, mostly Roedeer which are 30-40lbs. You could kill them with a stone easy

The only two nonlead bullets I have had considerable experience with on deer have been Barnes and Cutting Edge Bullets…and the kills have been considerably quicker with CEB, but they have also caused more meat damage. It’s a fair trade in my book, however, because I want game on the ground as soon as possible.

What is your opinion on this bullet as an Elk Round? What distance is max ? I have heard 350 yard's. I have no experience as I generally use 140 grain in my 7mm08 for deer.
@simplemindedfella

I cannot currently recommend these bullets as I am still doing testing on them. Both times I have testes these the high velocity rounds had interesting deformities and did not mushroom and shed petals like they are supposed to. I currently use the 140 grain trophy bonded tips in my 7mm-08 for everything including elk and absolutely love them. If you're wanting to go monolithic Hammer bullets are an excellent option I have never had failures with them. 400 yards is a good max distance for the 7mm-08

In South Africa, I shot many animals with the 150-155 grain MTH and Maximus bullets from Cutting Edge in my 7mm Rem Mag. The loads were not hot (just under 2900 fps at Muzzle). Shots were 100-500 yards. The Maximus were a bit better than the MTH. I would use the 145 Grain Cutting Edge Laser or the 145 or 150 grain Badlands Bulldozer next time. The 145 Barnes LRX would also be a good choice. For elk out to 350, for sure, any of these bullets would work well. I shot many elk and caribou sized animals with a 120 gr Lost River Ballistic and a 130 Barnes TSX from my 6.5-06. Muzzle Velocities were 3260 fps with the 120 grain and 3180 with the 130 TSX.

Would also be nice you put the bulkets on the table side by side and mention the velocity again fir each and do some conents about velocity, weight rentention and so forth.
@simplemindedfella
@simplemindedfella 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about that with these as the high velocity shot had better weight retention and that is not normal. I'm going to be doing another video with these trying to get down to the 1600 fps range on the low end and go even higher using a 7mm Rem Mag on the high end. After I have collected that data I will consider a side by side comparison of the cores showing why I believe the weight retentions were what they were.
