Hi,as a retired marine engineer of 40+years I believe a place for everything and everything in its place.The engine room looks a shambles,and I would feel the need to strip the whole interior back to the shell plating…..but given the TIME and money…what a project..if only😀.

I was thinking that a few strategically placed pipe bombs might be a good start for the retrofit of this old girl LOL. The bones are there but my God she needs a lot of TLC. Under the right ownership, she could be turned into something amazing for long-distance cruising but a wallet the size of a steamer trunk would be needed. I would love to see someone with the right vision and the finances turn this old girl into something amazing. I have been a subscriber for quite some time and I really enjoy your videos such as these. Thank you so much for the work you do bringing us these interesting videos. Cheers from Canada

As a retired second engineer I believe there is room for improvement in several areas to include HOUSEKEEPING, specifically related to that shithole you call an engine room… I would be extremely worried about the condition of any machinery that hasn’t been replaced in the last 5 years due to the nature of the business. If it’s not making money it’s costing money. A good equipment maintenance log might relieve some stress …

I immediately recognised the shape of this boat. I skippered it back in the early 2000's bringing her back to UK from Malta in March 2001 where she'd been operating as a Guard Vessel/ Survey Boat. She was a very seaworthy boat due to her dutch trawler design and we made the journey non stop in 13 days despite some awful weather. She looks in a bit of a state now sadly so someone would definately have their work cut out to make her seaworthy again!

I found your channel recently as I'm looking for a steel ship to add to my marine based electrical business. I like that you tour these older ships. You have been overly kind on this one. I appreciate that is what you need to do, as it would be hard to convince people to let you tour them if you were not. IMO the seller is going to be hard pressed to get any money for this ship, it's basically scrap so if he can't give it away to someone with a dream, he's going to have to pay money to get rid of it.

This vessel has real potential for the right buyer(s). A non-profit that needs a barebones longrange explorer vessel could crowd fund the restoration/renovation, including professionally drafted plans with projected materials and labor costs. This would be a serious long term project that would take a couple of years to complete. But, in the end, it could serve a valuable purpose - for someone.
@brokerhc11 ай бұрын
This could be a great project if the hull plates thickness reports come out with a reasonable life expectancy. The main expense here would be the engine room. Since I hate one engine boats, I would replace the old engine with two new ones of a lower horsepower and size. That would require the modification of the aft part of the hull and maybe the rudder system. After an investment of newer electronics, a new generator and a good cleaning of the tanks, I would move the boat to Spain, Turkey or Croatia where the interiors can be done at a cheaper price. While they work on the interior, all exterior surfaces can be stripped and repainted. All this would have to be done for les than $1.2 million. One cent more than that and there are many trawlers in the same size range in the market that do not need that investment and are a lot newer. Anyway, it is a beautiful old boat.
@Haraldsvensk11 ай бұрын
That trawler has great potential to become an expedition ship. Yes, you are right that the engine room is as it was in active service. Wish she gets a good new owner who appreciates the wonderful lines of this trawler.

A bit weird having the watch chair to port. E.R. a shambolic mess, but suspect most of that is result of the rather naive and unskilled "landlubberish" conversion. Dutch boats are almost always well thought out, and all the essential kit seems to be well installed and still there, so looks to me like a few weeks of tidying, systems overhaul/maintenance would probably put her in reliable condition again. The take her somewhere with warm weather and cheap happy labour and do the rest.

A whole lot of work. She has some nice lines but not sure it would be worth the money to properly refit her over just buying something that didn't need that much work. I mean it needs everything. Sand blasted to bare metal and completely gutted. You might be able to get it done in the far east or south American shipyard that wouldn't bankrupt you.

I think you did a really good job in trying to paint a rosy picture of this absolute turd of a boat. Whoever owns it is asking $75k too much. It is in abysmal condition, it has a very weird layout and right off the bat needs 25k in plating just so you can get it back on the water? Anyone who buys this boat is probably in for a very rude awakening once they start working on her.
