There's so much to like about this little ship (or big boat maybe better describes). First impressions is her look of sea worthiness and ocean crossing capability. Next is how spacious she is. The Bridge is huge, the saloon is huge, the engine room is just huge and spacious....you could add a wing engine in there. 11kts top speed when needed to get in front or away from weather. You would probably want to throw another 200K into upgrades if your intention is chartering, but still have price point way less than smaller six berth less capable yachts. Imagine this on a round the world charter where you are selling various legs of the journey....awesome!

The 3408 is one of the best marine diesels you can have. This is a boat for someone with mechanical ability, a couple with occasional guests or maybe kids. Yes the guest staterooms are small, but I don't think it is worth it to change the configuration into a few larger cabins. If that is what you want, buy a different boat. The key thing if you bought this boat is to go through the mechanicals. Over 25 years since the last refit and only 1300 hours on the motor means that you need to check out the mechanicals, there is something waiting to break. Service the keel cooler and the gensets and the bow thruster. Go through all the systems carefully. I think one would be happier with a larger dinghy. Check the plate thickness carefully. As far as having a wing engine, this would not be so hard to install. With three gensets, could even be an electric engine. The ZF saildrive would not be that hard to install and can handle 120 HP. An EV motor could be adapted very easily. This is a get home engine. Take care of your main engine, carry spares and keep the oil and fuel clean and you will be okay. With that huge radar mast you could even put a square sail on it.

The below deck freezer storage looks just like big ships have. The vessel would be wonderful for charter up the inside passage of Vancouver BC. I could see myself doing charter going into those large bays that no one lives in. Letting guest explore with there kids ( all the bunk beds) digging clams shucking Oyster on the beach. I love the big wind shield on fly bridge, yes it looks strange. The controller up tops side could see myself there maneuver the vessel. I would want all the owners tools in engine room. Even though you don't have redundant engine, this vessel with just one engine could go far. I love it you find these great very ship shape vessel to tour.

Not just the Rhine but also all Dutch rivers, its passing starboard on starboard. It needs to be confirmed by the oncoming vessel, if not then you need to do the traditional way. Mostly used on tidal rivers as the upstream vessels like to hug the inner shore as there is less current.

Yeh! A real boat not a flash over side toy speed boat. 2.9mtrs draft displacement hull for this size is serious stuff. And its good to hear a real mariner appreciate this kind of tough boat. You really could take this boat around the world very comfortably. Very unusual interior design. Set up more for practical hard work living than luxury. However this could all be re done and brought up to date and then you have a very unique tough serious yacht. Love the practical "single" engine room. Some of the toughtest boats have only one engine. Thanks for this superb video on a real tough ocean going classic boat.

Only Nordhavn fanboys complain about wing engines. Completely unnecessary as these engines are build to last and just need a spare if there is an issue. Engine redundancy is just there for people unable to make some repair. Ever seen a oil-tanker or any carrier with double engines or heard of any stranded mid ocean because of engine failure? I didn't 😎

The accommodation requires complete refurb and a couple of cabins sacrificed to benefit the remainder. The blue square is indeed when you sail on the wrong side of the river Rhine
@pvdneste9 ай бұрын
Well, that square blue/white 'table' at 10:30 is an official signal: the "Blauwe bord" When in use it is tilted 90degrees forward (the blue facing forward) and the white light in the middle is turned on (flashing). It is used when ships want to meet on the 'wrong' side of each other. Normaly one meets 'port on port' but sometimes ships want to meet 'starboard on starboard' or 'Blauw op blauw' (bleu on bleu). This procedure is used on the rivers (Rhine, IJssel). Where ships in the "opvaart" (going upstream, 'up the hill') usually like to stay on the inside of riverbends where there is less current to overcome. In that case the ships in "opvaart" show their bleu/white/flashing white light to signal their intentions to the "afvaart" (ships going downstream). often this is accompanied with some VHF communication.

I love watching these converted trawler and tug videos. I served in the US Marines, so I've been aboard w few vessels in my military career tenure. Your videos are amazing but if I may in my opinion say what if one had no boating experience (something to help with your channel or video editing). When touring the valley you mentioned a fridge and freezer, where was it? Maybe pause a freeze frame for folks to gather their orientation and oh there it is. The same with the navigation 🧭 table, and then the exhaust stacks and such to name a few ....like maybe an arrow pointing towards it for those less experienced and such. Nothing derogatory towards you or you channel but some positive feedback after action review if you will. Other than that I subscribed and love watching your content ❤

This might be a tough one to sell. Proper little ship, reminds me of my days as deckhand on oceanographic research ships. You'd need to use her as a charter with paying guests, and really pinpoint your clientele: either people who are just hardcore offshore passage-making and exploring types and who could put up with her dated and less than attractive accommodations, or you'd need to spend a fair bit and redo them, maybe reduce the number of cabins and then charge more for some well-heeled customers who just want to swan about on a nice yacht and be at anchor most nights. Or, half a dozen buddies get together and buy her and off they go! Either way, she needs a refit first. Pretty ship though, no question.
